At last a uk release for a classic death wish entry. The sub title to this movie is amusing"this time it's war"-after the carnage in part 3.
Charles Bronson returns as vigilante Paul Kersey, this time drawn in to the world of LA organised crime, getting information on targets from a mysterious wealthy man.
The director of the first 3 micheal winner did not return for this one but at the end of the day Charles Bronson is The reason to watch. This is from the cannon group in the 80's so if you remember that time you know what you are getting-they pumped out chuck norris films back in the day.
Before van damme, seagal and the newer crop of action stars came in-you had the big guns of Stallone and Arnold and clint eastwood then Charles and Chuck filled the void of the lower budget action flicks.
His screen presence was immense-there was no one harder either on screen(around his age at least).
This isnt the best death wish(2 or 3 would get my vote)but it is a classic 80's action flick and Charles has some great one liners.A concerned Charles asks a drugs pusher"how many kids have you killed with this?"throwing bags of narcotics of the guys head.A robber screams at him"who the f... are you?"-Charles replies"Death"-ha ha nothing more needs to be said. You cannot mess with Paul Kersey and Charles Bronson is a legend.

Deathwish 4 is a film that is neither bad nor good. From Canon Globus, usually a sign of a decent action flick, it is undemanding fare as Charles Bronson's Paul Kersey is once more compelled to lay down his architect's drawing instruments and pick up a variety of increasingly powerful weaponry on a mission to clear the streets of crime. It does just what it needs to, delivering explosions, shoot outs and fisticuffs on a regular basis, keeping the viewer entertained while never actually engaging the brain. It leaves behind all the ethical questions of the first film in the series, and tries to justify Kersey's actions with a look at the effects of drugs crime. But in short order this attempt at moral justification is abandoned as Kersey goes off on a one man crusade of destruction on the drug gangs that infest his city, and the film turns into a satisfying shoot-em-up. Bronson was still an imposing presence on screen, looking pretty good for his years. It is his presence and laconic tones that carry the film. Lee J. Thompson's direction is a bit pedestrian and unimaginative at times, and it is hard to believe that this is the same man who directed `Guns Of Navarone'. There's little originality here, either in script, plot, direction or acting, but it holds together OK and delivers just what you expect. It's not bad, but it isn't anything amazing either. 3 stars.

Not the best of the 5, but its better than the one that came after it, this time around Paul Kersey (Bronson), is up against a drug cartel, corrupt policemen along with a mysterious businessman.

His 'services' are requested when two criminal gangs are fighting for supremacy, then Kersey secretly plays them off against each other (a tweaked storyline was repeated in the Bruce Willis, Walter Hill directed movie "Last Man Standing" in 1996).

Then things get "too much", a mysterious businessman (John P Ryan : Delta Force 2), tries to cuts ties with Kersey - unsuccessfully.

The downside to this movie is not the action (which is good), but the part with the "businessman" for some reason is never revealed, however its a passable sequel that should have ended right here!.

Charlie Bronson reprises his role Paul Kersey, this time taking on the drug lords with the two major drug gangs in L.A
the Romero brothers and Ed Zacherias, when his new girlfriends daughter overdoses on cocaine, and dies. Not a bad film not like the previous 3 films, which was directed by michael Winner, but overall not bad
