Bioshock

Welcome to Rapture!

Bioshock - a first person shooter experience unlike any other, played out in Rapture, an immense underwater utopia torn apart by a genetic civil war. Explore a deadly but incredible art deco world filled with formidable technology and fascinating characters. You'll have a complete arsenal at your disposal, from simple revolvers to rocket launchers and flamethrowers. Challenge the constraints of nature by genetically modifying your DNA with injected PLASMIDS and embrace super human powers.

  • Biologically modify your body: send electric bolts storming from your fingertips or unleash a swarm of killer hornets hatched from the veins in your arms.
  • Hack devices and systems, upgrade your weapons and craft new ammo variants.
  • Turn everything into a weapon: the environment, your body, fire and water, and even your worse enemies.

Bioshock 2

Follow-up to BioShock, 2K Games' critically acclaimed and commercially successful 2007 release, BioShock 2 is a first-person shooter set in the fictional underwater city of Rapture. As in the original game, BioShock 2 features a blend of fast-paced action, exploration and puzzle-solving as players follow varying paths through the overarching storyline based on the decisions that they are forced to make at various points in the game. In addition to a further fleshing out of the franchise's popular storyline, players can look forward to new characters, game mechanics, weapons, locations and a series first, multiplayer game options.

Set approximately 10 years after the events of the original BioShock, the halls of Rapture once again echo with sins of the past. Along the Atlantic coastline, a monster — somehow familiar, yet still quite different from any

A relatively short game - perhaps a week or two of evenings - packed with interesting ideas and spectacular visuals. There is a strong Ayn Rand theme, purporting to explore individualism taken to extremes. I find her ideas interesting but ultimately flawed, and I don't think Bioshock's critique of her ideas is particularly nuanced. Nevertheless it's a very unusual and engaging backdrop for a game.

It's sometimes compared to System Shock II. I would say that (from memory) that game was scarier, but Bioshock's visuals and the world they've created really are quite something.

I found the second Bioshock game initially to be very much "sequel" material, certainly inferior to the original visually. Some of the game ideas have been swapped out for their polar opposites in the sequel, which is not a particularly inspired move. HOWEVER, I do think Bioshock 2 gets more interesting as you play it through and there are some very nice surprises from the moment you meet Eleanor.

Bioshock 2 has an extremely annoying sign-up process required for play. I was cursing for about an hour trying to get a Microsoft account to work as my login - something that, realistically you have to do, even for single player. It also took me a LONG time to find the CD key (under the Bioshock 1 disc bizarrely enough). I think this is the worst installation experience I have ever had for a piece of software.

However, the pair taken together are definitely a classic and at around 7 pounds or so you really can't go wrong.

A beautifully crafted game with tons of atmosphere and heart pounding moments.

Thats what I can say about Bioshock. Due to time constraints I have not as yet managed to start the second game in this pack.

Now the reason why I decided to type a review for this game.

A lot of people have had major problems with this game and running it on Windows 7. I must admit it had me tearing my hair out for a good while until I found out what the problems were.

The first and foremost is that Stereo mix must be enabled in your sound section of the Windows 7 control panel and to do this you need to open up sound and then the Recording tab. If you cannot see the stereo mix option right click on a empty spot and mark the ability to see diasabled devices. Enable stereo mix and it may be wise to disable your mics etc. as I was found that they also caused a conflict.

Now if you have a motherboard or Soundcard which uses Creative Xi-Fi, you will need to add Bioshock to the Alchemy program. In this you will need to find the exact path of the game file and type it in.

Once these things are done, you should have no problems and I was able to run the game without using compatiability mode.

Hope this helps

If you like role playing games and FPS games and you like your imagination provoked then this game has everything you could ever wish for , Its unique style and storyline brought a new twist to the FPS role playing genre, Ok so the original game came out I think in 2007 , but unfortunately my PC was not quite powerful enough at the time to do this game justice , so I purchased it on xbox , and must say it was one of the best games I have ever played.

Five years later and at the bargain price of £9 for both titles Bioshock 1 & 2 were always going to be on my wishlist for PC, and now with more graphical power my new PC easily meets the game's requirements, and with everything set to maximum I can tell you that both games are graphically outstanding and in no way dated , I simply have not put Bioshock down since I installed it yesterday and expect I will be playing them to death over the next few days weeks.

I have played just about every FPS and RPG worth buying/playing over the last few years but none have the appeal of Bioshock for me personally, quite simply these games will rock & shock your senses in more ways than you can imagine, but all in the best possible taste, put simply both these games are what Gaming is all about.

DO NOT HESITATE ! ADD TO BASKET NOW £9 WoW

Very good games, although I have yet to play Bioshock 2 but I thought to give some advise on Bioshock 1, after installing it I had no sound after the plane crash, looking online and found out how solve it.

1. Access your system Sound Recording Settings
In your status bar, right-click on the sound/speaker and select "Recording devices".
OR
(Alternatively, access the setting by click on Windows "Start Menu" > "Control Panel" > "Hardware and Sound" > click on link "Manage audio devices" under section "Sound" > click on the tab named "Recording" )

Screenshot:
[...]

2. Enable Stereo Mix (see screenshot)
Right click in the list of "recording device" where you should see "Microphone", "Line in", maybe "CD Audio".
In the context menu, Tick the line called "Show Disabled Devices".
Now you should seed "Stereo Mix" as a new Device.
Right click on Stereo Mix and click on the first option of the context menu "Enable".

3. Disable Microphone, LineIn, CD*Audio
There was an echo / reverb effect going on in the game which wasn't related to the in-game Reverb setting (OFF). I think the windows recording settings created a feedback loop, so I disabled Microphone, LineIn and CD Audio and voilà! Problem was gone.
