Product Description

Product Description

When Ruggero Deodato, the director of über-controversial CANNIBAL HOLOCAUST, teamed up with David Hess, the notorious - Krug - star of The Last House on the Left, their maverick talents exploded in the feat of unrelenting sleaze that is THE HOUSE ON THE EDGE OF THE PARK. Alex (Hess) is a psychopath and his friend Ricky (Giovanni L Radice) an easily led simpleton. When the unlikely pair are invited to an upscale house party where they are ridiculed by their debauched young hosts, Alex decides that he and his straight edged razor deserve some fun. Together the two streetwise punks take the unprepared partygoers on a journey of violence, debasement and forced sex. And that s before events turn really nasty...

Deodato s unwavering gritty direction keeps the tension unbearably tight and the psychological nuances of Hess and Radice s powerhouse performances deliver uncomfortably challenging scenes so close to the bone that this originally banned Video Nasty remains one of the most contentious pictures in UK censorship history.

Special Features:

- Exclusive interview with star David Hess & director Ruggero Deodato
- Introduction by David Hess
- Debate with Deodato, star Radice & the UK Censors
- David Hess on Censorship
- Theatrical trailer
- English & optional Italian audio with English subtitles

Controversial film, but highly entertaining. Shameless does not disappoint with the release of Deodato’s violent drama. A great extra called “Back from the House” contains interviews with David Hesse and Ruggero Deodato is informative and entertaining.
Brilliant!

"The House on the Edge of the Park" has had an interesting history in the United Kingdom starting in 1981 when the British Board of Film Censorship (oops, I mean Classification) decided that whether or not we wanted to view the movie was to much of a decision for us humble Brits to make for ourselves, banning it outright. It was then released uncut on VHS by Skyline in October 1982, but quickly hit the video nasties list in July 1983. In 2002, Vipco released the movie on DVD and it passed through the BBFC with an 18 certificate and 11 minutes, 43 seconds of cuts/edits to rape, assault, the opening murder, the razor scene and when Alex bashes Tony's head against the table. This year, Shameless submitted the film to the BBFC and everyone was surprised that the cuts were massively reduced to one minute twenty seconds. Still, Shameless were not happy and appealed the decision to cuts to the rape scene stating the questionability of whether Lisa is enjoying her ordeal or not. They won, and "The House on the Edge of the Park" is now with us cut by just 48 seconds to the razor assault scene.

The synopsis from Shameless reads:
When Ruggero Deodato, the director of über-controversial "Cannibal Holocaust", teamed up with David Hess, the notorious "Krug" in "The Last House On The Left", their maverick talents exploded in the feat of unrelenting sleaze that is The House On The Edge Of The Park.

I have to show my respect to the Shameless label for trying to get this past the idiotic BBFC uncut and try as they did, Shameless submitted the full version to the BBFC and got the green light to lessen the colossal 11 odd minutes of edits to some two minutes however Shameless weren't happy - and rightly so, this is 2012 by the way and not 1980 !!! Anyway, they got their way and managed to get this version 'approved' HOWEVER still with some 2 minutes of cuts, hence it's still cut and incomplete and therefore not a worthy purchase. A good selection of bonus extra material has been loaded on this version to quite obviously compensate for the fact that it isn't the full complete film, if you want to see the proper version opt for any other release apart from the UK release, I have the Dutch release which is 100% uncut and has a fantastic transfer. Happy viewing people.

I would just like to say that this version is cut to ribbons by the BBFC however I feel I would like to share with people who might be interested in obtaining the "Uncut Version it is Danish however you can remove the subtitles on this disc House On The Edge Of The Park (1980) (Uncut Version) (Region 2) (Import)
The BBFC and the video Nasties still rule
Would also like to recomend a really good book on the subjectThe Art of the Nasty
If you are interested at old school video art covers and the story behind censorship

With two of the vilest, most disturbing and violent films ever made (Jungle Holocaust and Cannibal Holocaust) under his belt, there's no denying that Ruggero Deodato knows how to create a controversial movie! And believe me his previously banned video nasty The House On The Edge Of The Park is no exception. Staring two of exploitation cinema's all-time greats, David Hess (from The Last House On The Left - included his is his last ever intereview) and Giovanni Lombardo Radice (from City Of The Living Dead), The House On The Edge Of The Park is the quintessential slice of Italian Exploitation Cinema that every horror/cult film fan must see! Along with Fight For Your Life, this is the ultimate home invasion film and constantly keeps you on the edge of your seat with vile acts, gore, rape and funky dancing.

Not one for the faint of heart - but for everyone else, this is highly recommended!
