One of the 3 best films by Aldo Lado, a not so famous yet excellent Italian director from the seventies.
The ability here is to set most of the story on a train, in the narrow space of a wagon room, where gradually crime and horror unfold and take over, in a increasing disturbing atmosphere, that he manages to achieve through a great use of photography, music (just a harp composition, written by Morricone) and fantastic yet unsettling acting.
The other valuable thing is that the story is split in 2: first haf/second half.
You empathyze with characters, then some of them are ripped away.

But, as usual with Lado, this is not one of those gory italian horror film from the Seventies: it is a subtle and provocative attack to hypocrisy and violence that comes from society, from upper classes, from the System itself. See his interview in the extra: very enlightening.

Definitely a film to re-discover.

The blu ray quality is quite good

Was looking forward to this but kind of slipped me by. Some of the footage on the train was very well done and you do get a build up of tension. However the characters started to annoy me and I was just waiting for them to be bumped off. Thought I would like this more. Maybe needs another viewing.

Great film, reminded me of Last house on the left alot. But all the same, still a great film (if you know what i mean). very downbeat story as you can imagine, rape and murder of a young woman, but still a very well made film. The bluray transfer is excellent, video and audio. Highly recommended!

Beautiful restoration and presentation of Lado's hymn to 'Last House on the Left'. This re-appreciation of the films deemed 'nasties' by old tory crones in the 1980's prove that these films are just important to cinematic history as mainstream mass appealers and at times often equal or surpass in terms of what is being filmed or what message is trying to be said. I wish 88 films all the luck in the world and hope their future releases are of this calibre and we have many movies of this 'ilk' for distribution in the future in a world where men in business suits dominate the media and what we see because they have the money, greed and competiveness where smaller distributors aren't always as privileged. Thank you 88 films for giving films such as this and the exploitation/horror genre a voice.

OK so its an Italian rip off of Last House on The Left. 2 girls take the overnight train from Germany to Italy to stay with ones parents for Christmas. Some thugs also board the train causing general mayhem escalating to sexual assault and murder.

Acting is good with a score by ennio morricone and bizarrely Demis Roussos over the titles

Picture is far much better than previous dvd releases

Extras are the same as previous Blue Underground dvd minus some galleries

First UK release of the former video nasty once rejected for cinema all those years ago. Now fully uncut and superbly presented by Shameless once again. This release comes with the original European trailer and a reversible cover (for those who prefer the Italian poster and 'video nasty' title of "Late Night Trains").

An essential addition and here in its original uncut glory. Grab your ticket for the Night Train now! (and please be careful not to trip over either the victims or the Demis Roussos theme song).

Two young girls, Laura and Margaret are heading home for Christmas. On the way they meet two young thugs and a older middle aged women. Half way through their journey they are forced to swap trains after theirs has a suspected bomb on board. After that they are subject to a horrific torment of rape and sexual humiliation.

After the success of Wes Cravens low budget horror Last House on the Left, the Italians decided to cash in on that films popularity by making their own version. In my opinion is this actually the better of the two films. Although this is no great film by any means.

The director is horror film maker Aldo Lado who made the Gothic looking Who Saw Her Die. As with that film he opts to create a scary atmosphere by adding in fog and the natural elements such as rain sequence on the deserted train.

Acting wise the only good cast member is the great Enrico Maria Salerno as one of the girls father who when the killers arrive at his house, decides to exact his own brand of justice upon them. The others include Flavio Bucci and Gianfranco De Grassi as the two young thugs neither impressed me that much and the older sex starved woman is played by Macha Meril.

The majority of the action comes from the abuse the two young girls suffer from the three psychopaths. Laura is forced to give the one a hand job, then she has her virginity taken by a knife which leads to her bleeding to death. Then her friend Margaret is forced to strip then they make a passer by rape her, although he seems to enjoy the act. The abuse they suffer is hard to watch at times even with the poor acting and quite surprisingly there is vertually no nudity witnessed throughout the film.
