Product Description

Product Description

Three times the terror, three times the gore!

Arrow Video invite you to stand before Lucio Fulci s Gates of Hell and pray for your very souls!

When an insane priest driven mad by evil commits suicide, he threatens to turn the small town of Dunwich into a City of the Living Dead in an Italian splatter masterclass of surreal zombie horror. Can a cynical reporter and a woman with a strange premonition unlock the terrible secret of why the dead walk again?

In The Beyond, a young woman inherits a crumbling New Orleans hotel that sits atop an entrance to hell itself. As the evil emanating from the basement grows stronger, the barriers between this world and the bleak purgatory on the other side become blurred, leading to an outbreak of rotted zombies, killer spiders and blind psychics.

In the third instalment, something hideous, violent and deadly lurks in the basement of The House By The Cemetery and some city dwellers are about to find out what when they move in. Will they survive the supernatural terrors or will the evil Dr. Freudstein triumph in a gruesome early 80s shocker so controversial it became an official video nasty.

Open the gates but be warned... You ll never return...

Great starter set for any fan wanting to try out Fulci. The Gates of Hell trilogy are arguable three of his best films. Loaded with atmosphere and of course gore its not to be missed. Arrow Video has put out some extras heavy features of these films on blu ray. If your more interested in the films and trying out Fulci this is the set for you.( it does have a few interesting extras as well,it's not barebones)
If you don't know the gates of hell trilogy I really dont want to ruin it for you. These are zombie films but not what you normally expect. These are much much better. These are zombies made scary and real.
Each DVD is in a slipcase with reversible artwork housed in a solid cardboard sleeve.
The set gets too marks and the price your paying for this is less than it use to cost to get a cut version of House by the Cemetery.
In case you are wondering all of these are the unut full films .
Highly recommended.

I was very pleasantly surprised by this Arrowdrome set. If you are looking to start a Fulci collection I would recommend this of course. Arrow have done a nice job with the transfers as usual and the sound was also very vivid. The films have been remastered but have retained something of their vintage which I found to my liking. The only way to describe Fulci's trio of hell is 'deliciously absurd'! The films don't tend to make a lot of sense but they are so much fun. I was actually impressed that they did make me feel quite uncomfortable for some of the scenes. Fulci was regarded as a hack by many but when he wanted to he could really make you squirm!

The Beyond is a cult classic and rightly so: surely here, it receives its due on the superb transfer by Arrow by far the best I have seen and superior to the other two films in the box, very bright and vivid! Interestingly, only House by the Cemetery made it to the video nasty list, having most cuts made. All the films are uncut and contain some good gore (poker murder was my favourite kill, which was once cut by the cencors). Also made me realise the similarities between Dario Argento's Deep Red and House in particular - thought Argento preceded Fulci by five years.

Finally I would say that the black and red packaging suits this set down to the ground. Nice slim dvd cases and a small well written booklet by Thrower make this little set a great value pack. I would buy it before it disappears as it is OOP. Indulge in the morbid fantasies of Italy's gore maestro and let yourself be seriously entertained!

These films are really bad; what was Catriona MacColl thinking by doing all three? You should watch with a notebook so you can note everything that does not make sense and/or is stupid. Nearly no plots; no suspense or tension; not scarey. The gore is good and so is the music but that is about it. Cemetary just drags; beyond at least passes by quickly; city has some of the dumbest scripting I have experienced. Really just for students of bad films.
