Enjoyable wild west rpg. being another Rockstar game theres the obvious comparison to GTA IV but set in the old west. fun to play, interesting story. controlling the horse movements can be frequently irritating but doesn't detract from the overall gameplay

Rockstar Games have done it again - the people who brought you Grand Theft Auto and Max Payne, both franchises that have been renowned for immersive storylines and bloodthirsty gameplay, have developed a sequel to their painfully blocky and linear western Red Dead Revolver. Redemption is something more akin to Grand Theft Auto than its previosu iteration; the game is set in a huge area of the wild west, starting you off in the fictional state of New Austin on the border of Mexico.

The game leads you in with a cinematic that introduces you to John Marsten, an ex-bandit turned honest farmer, who is roped in by government agents who want him to kill one of his old comrades in arms. The few early missions introduce into enough of the different gameplay aspects - shooting, horse-riding, ranching, hunting, herb gathering, bounty-hunting - as well as the various characters you'll deal with through the story. The story itself is emotional and makes you want to find out how it all ends, dragging you through the west waiting for the gripping ending (which it is!). However, you can just ride about helping strangers and locals, hunting, or go full-bandito and steal and kill your way through the open world.

The multiplayer is online only, but is set out in a unique way: you can either join various deathmatch, king of the hill games etc. from the multiplayer pause menu, but the most fun comes from playing in the free roam mode. It's here that you can interact with other online players, working together as a posse to take out gangs or other posses, or shooting them down if they get too close for comfort. Be aware of who you take a shot at though - if they're part of a posse you might have a whole gang chasing you down.

Picked RRD on the cheap up hoping to cure my itch waiting for GTA5. It's managed to kill a few hours, and in fairness isn't a _bad_ game, but I'm still looking for something else to fully keep me occupied as RRD hasn't quite done the job, despite still having plenty of the game left to go.

I bought this as my daughter had an Xbox for Xmas and thought I would see what all this gaming stuff was about. I have never played next gen games but got this second hand for about £8.I was blown away and would easily have paid 4 times the price.
What an amazing game, it is so cinematic and emotionally engaging. Yes there is the odd bug/freeze but the graphics, acting, sound, visuals are just gorgeous as is the gameplay. What can be better than being a gunslinger hero in the Old West? Hours and hours of terrific entertainment. I have pondered GTAV and FarCry3 but can't see how anything can top this. Apart from Undead Nightmare which I am also loving, it's a fabulous complement but I think you need to have played RDR first so you "get" it more. Buy. It.

Easily one of the best games you will ever play. The size of the game itself is incredible. You would be hard pressed to become bored playing this game. The single player storyline is amazing. Keeps you interested all the way to the end (and beyond!). Within the single-player game itself, there are many mini-games to play and side-missions to complete.

The multi-player is one of the best I've ever played. I have owned this game since its released and to this day, still play the multiplayer. There are a few DLCs to download as well with great content for both online play as well as the single player story.

Definitely recommend this game to anyone and everyone. Hope Rockstar have plans to release a sequel!

A ‘shoot em up’ with a twist. At the time of writing I am still playing it. Like many as you ‘earn’ decent weapons it gets easier particularly as the adversaries don’t get any brighter just more numerous. So with a fast horse and a couple of good weapons it becomes a bit predictable. Some of the quest involve blasting people and animals whilst the next is picking wild flowers – weird. The graphics are good but the saving is a bit clanky and it would be good if you could jump forward further each time you save. Without spoiling it for you, you save when you rest rest but often this is in the dark and then the next save still leaves you in the dark which is a drag – mind you perhaps that’s the difficulty I’ve been missing!

i bought this game about 18 months and then its sequel, red dead redemption the undead. i managed to destroy my first copy so had to buy this version. both games are excelent, if you don't mind the gore. good shoot outs realistic sounding guns. mr marston comes out with really evil comments at times. only wish there were more gang hideouts to have shoot outs in. so far i found seven. this game can sometimes tap into one's some what brutal side sometimes. good game wish they would bring out another sequal without resulting into using zombies, vampires and herman munsters. would recommend to anyone who like realistic good combat. i have only ever played the single person version
