Product Description

Marybeth (Danielle Harris, Halloween I & II) escapes from Victor Crowley (Kane Hodder, Friday the 13th) and manages to make it back to civilization, where she once again encounters voodoo shop proprietor Reverend Zombie (Tony Todd, Candyman), who had helped to arrange Marybeth and company s earlier, ill-fated tour of the area. To help Marybeth and also serve his own secret agenda, Reverend Zombie recruits a hardened pack of hunters to head back into the swamp to seek revenge on Victor Crowley.

MAY CONTAIN MINOR PLOT SPOILERS. The movie opens with Marybeth escaping from the monster Victor Crowley. She is helped by one-eye Jack. Later Jack discovers Marybeth is a Dunstan and orders her out and to go talk to Rev. Zombie. Victor shows up at Jack's shack, rips out his intestine then uses it as a cord to pop off his head. The killing and gore in this movie can best be described as "Troma" style. Every death scene hits a major squirting artery. This beginning scene also has the bulk of the movie's nudity as Jack views a found video camera.

Marybeth, who is perhaps the worst at acting in this film, visits Rev. Zombie (Tony Todd) who explains how Victor Crowley became a ghost/legend/killer with a remarkable story telling voice aka the James Earl Jones of horror movies. As it turns out, Zombie's boat was lost in Honey Island Swamp. He forms a posse (including one hot blond for one last nude/sex scene) to retrieve his boat and to kill Victor Crowley once and for all.

People die in all kinds of ways as Crowley seems to have an endless supply of gasoline powered tools. Notice when faces are being smashed, they have a tendency to bounce back as if they are made of rubber. In the old house, where everything is grown over, there is a new door. Cletis was my favorite redneck character. He was realistic.

Caution: If you are an easily offended Christian, there is one scene (in addition to all the killing, gore and nudity) that you might find offensive. You will know it when you hear it.

Hatchet 2 is a brilliant squeal and for me this was more brutal than the first film, and my hat goes off to the special effects team who deserve some kind of award, because the killings were just outstanding, from faces being ripped off, plus one of the best I have ever seen, when Tony Todd(candyman) has his skin torn off, this was so gruesome.

And I just love Danielle Harris (Halloween 4) she is a great little actress who is becoming the scream queen of horror.

Only negative thing I can say, the Blu-ray wasn't the best, especially the night scenes which were very grainy.

Taking its cue from all of those old 'Halloween' sequels back in the day, director Adam Green returns to create more over the top gore and mayhem at exactly the same place where we left the original movie: Marybeth (Danielle Harris replacing Tamara Feldman) has finally escaped the clutches of Victor Crowley (a post Jason Vorhees Kane Hodder, clearly having fun again), but is intent on returning to his stomping ground in an effort to locate the bodies of her murdered family and put a stop to the Bayo Butchers' bloodlust once and for all. Hooking up with her uncle Bob ('Fright night' director Tom Holland in a rare acting role), the devious Reverend Zombie (Tony Todd) and a team of mercenaries - Marybeth once again enters the Bayo...

... And that's about it. Not the most revelatory in terms of story, but what it lacks in drama and character progression - it sure as hell delivers in gore, pre-puberty type humor and 80s slasher style splatter effects - which is exactly what this is all about. Director Green fills the scant running time with enough blood flow and chunk blowing that you almost forgive the lacklustre script and stupid character motivation. Cleverly though, Green's script does allow the audience to quickly get to know the merc's and when their inevitable slaughter begins - you do almost feel for their plight. Granted, its never going to win any awards for acting - but at least you do feel a little for them, rather than it being another movie with just teens running around: There are actual adults in this one! So, all in all - not a bad sequel. As long as you don't expect too much and just want a good time with a gonzo but well made, splatter flick. So, honestly - just switch your brain to 'beer' and you should be okay!

Hatchet 2 is a franchise genre movie so if you're expecting pathos, emotional depth or cutting edge psychological horror then you will be disappointed. However, if you want a splatter-comedic swamp horror party movie with a cast of well loved genre faces then welcome to the bayou, prepare for voodoo splatter and watch out when the hatchet falls.

Kane Hodder (Friday the 13th), Tony Todd (Candyman) and Danielle Harris (The Halloween movies) star in an enthusiastically gruesome movie from horror director Adam Green (Frozen) a man with a nicely honest approach to scary movies. His obvious love for the genre is apparent on screen and while you shouldn't expect originality that isn't why we watch these films is it? No, we're here for guts, gore and body count and Hatchet 2 delivers this, alongside Todd essaying another creepy, sinister misfit, Hodder as the mutated stalking killer and Danielle Harris offering a textbook scream queen / final girl performance.

Hatchet 2 is a fine genre movie and recommended to strong-stomached popcorn movie fans everywhere.

Now I love myself a good horror flick. Be it an old 70/80's classic, grindhouse or some really old classic black and white. Needless to say my tolerance level is high and I can find likable aspects in even the most horrid of trainwrecks.

With that said. Hatchet 2 might be one of the worst movies I've seen so far in 2014. It goes beyond "so bad it's good" and crosses into "what-the-hell-am-I-watching" territory. It feels like a bad youtube project swung together by a couple of college graduates over a few months.

Sure. It is supposed to be a nod to the classic slasher genre of the 80's. I'm well aware of that, but it just simply misses the mark by leaps and bounds. You might get a giggle or two out of a couple of the death scenes, but sitting through this shitfest of a movie (90 minutes, give or take) to get those few minutes of entertainment is simply not worth it.

Stay clear. Stay away. Do not buy into the hype. Your time and money should be spent elsewhere.
