Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3

Call of Duty Modern Warfare 3 delivers an intense single-player campaign that picks up immediately following the events of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 and escalates into World War 3. Modern Warfare 3’s also boasts its re-imagined multiplayer, featuring the series’ trademark visceral gun-on-gun combat, a revamped point streak, devastating new modes like 'Kill Confirmed', new features and a bevy of new weapons, equipment and perks.

The most epic Call of Duty game ever Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 delivers a multiplayer experience that continues to raise the bar by focusing on fast-paced, gun-on-gun combat, along with innovative new features that support and enhance different styles of play. In Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3’s multiplayer, the player defines the experience through masterfully engineered Strike Package and Weapon Proficiency Systems, helping them play through the most intense multiplayer experience available.

New killstreak system

Completing game mode objectives now counts towards your pointstreak progression. For the first time ever, kills are not the only way to earn pointstreaks! For example, with a Support Strike package pointstreaks do not chain. However, streaks do not reset on death. Rewards also differ according to your strike package, so a support strike package will be more support oriented (UAV, Counter UAV, SAM turret, etc) helping your team dominate the opposition.

New weapons and proficiencies

For the first time in Call of Duty weapons have their own progression system as you gain XP through the use of a weapon, you unlock attachments, camos, reticles and weapon proficiencies. Weapon proficiencies allow you to specialise your weapon in the way you choose depending on your playing style:

  • Kick – Reduced kick for more accurate long distance shooting
  • Focus – Reduced flinch when hit for run and gun players caught in the thick of the action
  • Stability – Reduced sway when ADS for snipers

New game modes

All the fan favourite game modes make their return (Free-for-All, Team Death Match, Domination, etc.), and a series of new modes make their introduction to the Modern Warfare series:

  • Kill Confirmed – Collect dog tags from killed players. Prevent the other team from collecting yours.
  • Team Defender – Grab the flag and protect the flag carrier to increase your team’s score.
  • Drop Zone – Control the drop zone and collect care packages while the opposition try to dislodge your team.
  • Infected – One player starts infected and has to infect all the others by killing them. The opposing team meanwhile has to survive as long as possible.

Community playlists also allow players to create their own game modes and share them with their friends via Call of Duty Elite. Game modes will constantly evolve as part of the MW3 season of content running from January to September on Xbox.

I have played the game both on PC and console and what I can say it's that MW3 is a total waste of money.

On console it's nice if you're a heavy console game completely comfortable with handling a FPS game with the stick (or you have other means of control). The main advantage here is that the console game can't easily be hacked so hackers in multiplayer are very few and usually dealt with immediately.

On the PC however, you may have better graphics & sound (on top-end systems) but the multiplayer is completely overrun by hackers. It can take hours to find a hacker-free game.

I'm not mentioning single-player for one reason: the story is stupid, short and easy even on maximum difficulty.

Unless Infinity Ward manages to substantially patch the game (and maybe throw in a couple of free map packs), this game is not worth the money.

The only quality? Servers can be customized with respect to limiting weapons, drops, etc which can lead to very interesting games. This would be tremendously fun if it weren't for cheaters.

I believe like most i eagerly anticipated the release of MW3 but what a disappointment Single player is ok but a little short an experienced FPS player can finish in 5 - 6 hours. The real problem is the Multiplayer level. It is poor and fraught with problems. I had reached level 20 before i joined a game that was being hacked - suddenly i am at level 80 so because the game / server was hacked i lost hours of the game i would have had getting from level 20 to level 80. No way to reset your stats unless you enter prestige level which i would have eventually had i been allowed to progress at my own pace and prestige would have been the prise for competing level 1 -80. There are glitches - such as unlimited stealth bomber raids that ruin the game for everyone when someone uses it -a very common occurrence it makes the game virtually unplayable. There is no method to vote / kick hackers or the cheaters from the server so everyone suffers - no patch from infinity to stop it seems. The computer is supposed to level out the teams but one can easily find oneself in a team full of level 3 prestige players against new starts! The game constantly stops whilst it changes hosts and regularly times out which is exceedingly annoying.
The maps are small and the game resembles super mario with guns. Lots of running around in circles very fast shooting everything. Little skill or strategy involved just run fast jump up and down and shoot -i paid £30 for this?

My advice is don't waste your money

Waste of money for a heavily scripted follow the leader game.

Remember when fps allowed you to find your own way through a level/mission at your own pace with your own tactics? Well the people who keep churning this francise out don't or if they do they can't be bothered or are too lazy to put the effort in to allow players the freedom.

Take a leaf out of Valve's book and design better levels that players can enjoy instead of dragging them through a heavily scripted levels like a parent dragging a toddler around a supermarket on reins.

These type of games have zero replay value.

Sadly this game falls on its face.

The single player is pretty enough, some nice scenes in it but it takes no time at all to finish even on the hardest level.

What really lets this game down in the online play. Don't get me wrong you get to run around shooting people and generally being a lunatic which is great, where it falls down however is on the graphics, there are plenty of reviews already slatting this so I wont dither there, but also the fact that this doesn't have dedicated servers as the first option of play.

The PC community has always preferred dedicated servers for their shooters, any game that doesn't do it either has to back track and implement it or they die a death. In my two days of playing online so far I have had no end of laggy games that are unplayable, failed connections to other players resulting in me sitting there for several minutes waiting for it time out and find a new game and then the fact that when I get a connection that is good others have a poor one. This a software failure as I run on a 50Mb connection that has no issues on any other game I play.

What could have been a great game now sits in the mediocre bracket and I am disappointed that they have released such a poor product and will be returning to MW2 for my online shooting and lamenting the fact that it could have been great and fell so short

What can I say, I am a big fan of both the Modern Warfare series and the Battlefield series and I have been for years, I have never been swayed to one or the other, I have always loved them both. Until now, I installed this game with great expectations and received a deflated turkey for Christmas (okay I didn't get it for Christmas but you get the idea).

I jumped into single play first which I thought was pretty cool, but then something happened, something greatly almighty happened, I played on line, what a downer, and I mean an absolute downer, now please don't get me wrong I do not have the fastest computer in the world but the specs for playing this game are far beneath my PC's power, and I just felt that the graphics where so old fashioned, and the enemy from a distance looked like stick men with Hawaiian shirts on.

5 minutes that is all it took, well that is all I could put up with to be honest, if you are old like me you will remember Unreal Tournament 2004 (UT2K4), well that was a great game for its year, think of that game, put army uniforms on the US and Hawaiian shirts on the enemy and that really is how the game felt, sorry COD franchise, but you really did fail with this one, a new engine was the way forward and they just got lazy and comfortable taking peoples money. FAIL
