Made by the people who bought you such classic hits as 'Notting Hill' and 'Four weddings and a funeral' comes a hilarious and highly anticipated film of Helen Fielding's book. This movie is about the year in the life of a thirty something woman (Jones) who is sick and tired of being single and overweight.
Throw in a delightfully witty script co -written by Richard Curtis, an unpleasant turn from the normally soft Hugh Grant and a cast with huge amounts of talent and the result is everything fans and non fans could have hoped for.
Renee Zellweger was chosen to play the unglamorous role of Bridget Jones herself. Renee piled on the pounds to play the part and she pulls it off amazingly. While Colin Firth is brilliant as the posh and rich Mark Darcy.
Director Sharon Maguire mixes big laughs with touching romance brilliantly. The humour in the movie will make you laugh out loud as it takes you through Bridget's interesting and comical life. Highlights of the film include Bridget's New Year resolutions, her bunny rabbit suit; also Grant and Firth comically fight it out.
The angle of the movie is only focused on 3 characters, Bridget finding love with her 2 perfect men. Bridget is a clutse, she's unsuccessful, fat and unlucky in love and the movie explores those factors and how they fit into her life.
Final Verdict: With a top notch cast, witty script and enough laughs and romance to get you through, this rom-com is one not to be missed. Superb.

When I heard the book Bridget Jones' Diary was to be made into a film, I did not think they could possibly do the book justice but I was wrong. I laughed from beginning to end. If you've ever done any of the following: been on a diet, smoked and tried to give up, got drunk, tried to cook a gourmet meal and failed or worn "big pants" then you will sooooooooo relate to Bridget Jones.
If you don't relate to her or don't think it's funny then you must be a "smug married" to quote Bridget Jones.

This is a great film, being both funny and also very real.
I loved it, not an exact copy of the book, but not a bad attempt as you can now enjoy them both as seperate pieces.
Renee is great as 30 something Bridget, and her accent is amazing.
For us girls there is the gorgeous Colin Firth and also Hugh Grant if thats your thing.
Brilliant film -watch it and read the book!!

Bridget Jones's Diary is a surprisingly good movie. Detractors who deride it for its admittedly minimalist plot miss the point - this is a film that shows life without the layers of artificiality favoured by directors (resulting in movies somehow removed from the realm of the everyday in which us mere mortals dwell). Life is frequently aimless and trivial; and therein lies the movie's attraction. Notwithstanding of course that this is a very funny and highly original comedy.
Bridget (played with considerable aplomb by Renee Zellweger) belongs to the ranks of that modern phenomenon - the over-30, unmarried career woman. Just when it seems Bridget may be destined for terminal spinster-hood, two opposing forces enter her life - charming cad Daniel, and uptight (but very sexy) lawyer Mark. Which of the two is her Mr. Right? And why does everyone insist on asking that question detested by all singletons - "How's your love life going?" The movie's conclusion is predictable, and although any other ending would leave the audience feeling cheated, it does seem somewhat tame and ultimately unsatisfying.
The film encourages the viewer both to get involved with Bridget emotionally and to laugh at her at the same time. Perhaps the best joke is the milieu inhabited by her parents - where the mini-gherkin is the height of sophistication, and 60-year-olds throw garden parties with such alarming themes as 'tarts and vicars'. Bridget is certainly no social butterfly, and whilst we cringe at her public embarrassments (notably her TV report involving a fireman's pole and a bottom the size of Brazil), we triumph with her when she manages to turn a bad situation to her advantage. Maybe we can recognise a little bit of Bridget Jones in all of us.

Bridget Jones is a true heroine of the 21st century and I defy any woman not to relate to Bridget 110%. This movie is a modern classic, and one I know viewers will find hard to forget. You'll laugh (a lot), you'll cry (a lot) but at the end of the film you will realise that it is a true masterpiece. Renee Zellweger, Colin Firth and Hugh Grant are all superb, (Look out for the hotel scene. V.funny!!!)

Where to start when reviewing this neat little adaptation of the million-selling book. Well for a start there's the faultless cast: Renee Zellweger can't put a foot wrong in the role of Bridget, all the quarrels about authenticity of accent are eradicated as her endearing vulnerability is the heart of this tale of girl falling for false love, realising her mistake and finally finding true love. Hugh Grant finally plays the cad, and it makes a sexy change from the bumbling idiot. Colin Firth reprises his infamous Mr Darcy role to great comic effect and the script bubbles over with hilarious moments aplenty for our talented cast to get their teeth into. A real treat for anyone with a sense of humour and a heart.
