Product Description

Product Description

The prolific and manic Jess Franco has directed well over 200 films. Some are dire, the majority functional and a few are absolute classics of exploitation cinema. The Demons, Francos shameless cash in on Ken Russells the Devils, is a true Franco masterpiece, featuring everything from torture, lesbian sex and demonic possession. The film centres on a witch who is burned at the stake by the inquisition but who, before the flames consume her, manages to curse the principal witchfinder and his minions with dire results. What follows is a catalogue of depravity and sexual violence on a truly orgiastic scale while Francos camera gleefully captures every perverse moment and gratuitous exposure of female flesh!

This is a true sleaze epic of Babylonian proportions Buy It!

A witch who is being burned at the stake curses the people responsible to a violent death.

Jess Franco returns with a seriously disappointing "horror" picture in the mould of Mark Of The Devil, The Devils & Franco's own Bloody Judge though nowhere near as good as any of them. The film starts well enough with the story taking centre stage, however this is Franco and the very sleazy sex enters and the plot starts exiting. Acting is actually not bad, Anne Libert makes for a stunning lead and delivers a very decent performance as do most of the cast, dubbing however is terrible and is off putting at times. The scenery is beautiful and even the sets & props look good but that's where the positives end, as said the plot isn't bad but is just completely thrown away in favour of some very sleazy and unsexy, sex scenes including naked nuns, extreme close-ups of naked women, lesbian nuns etc.. Although that is standard filmmaking from him, losing interest in the films central idea halfway through in favour of his real passion (naked women) it just gets frankly tedious, I don't mind some stuff like this in films but seeing the same thing over & over again in soft focus and close-up is well boring, as does the lack of pacing which is as slow as an early 90s modem. By the time the climax is taking place you are so worn down by the lack of pace & story you have almost completely lost interest.

I am by no means a Franco fan but I've seen all of his video nasty/section 3 films of which this is one, and although he clearly is a competent filmmaker his lack of attention to his plots really lets him down. His devotees may like his way and find something in his movies the general audience will be put off by his meandering ways and this may even explain why he didn't get his chance in the mainstream industry.

Absoklutely love this movie . I thought the use of prog rock/psychedlic/jazz score for something set in medieval times was bold, unusual and worked suprisingly well ! Another excellent thing is that this is uncut too !!

Anyone know where I can obtain the soundtrack or who it is by - been searching for it for about 10 years but to no avail .

Help would be appreciated .

Thanks

I bought this DVD recently expecting something a lot better than this load of dross. The copy I got was cut to pieces by the censors and that of course ruined it even more. I love the idea of young girls being grabbed and put to the question about being a witch or not. But "ye gods!" the acting and story-line in this travesty of a film are appalling. I was trapped again by my silliness in judging a DVD by looking at the pic on the box. The graphical quality of the film was better than I thought it would be but the background music is utterly dreadful. I looked at the extra's when the film had finished and it was then when I saw the trailor for this movie that I could see all the cuts that had been made by the censor, I was so disappointed. I guess if I want a cheap thrill in future I will just dig out this DVD and just watch the trailor.
