Although I am 65 and retired I just love computer games and have since Pong and Space Invaders were available to have in our homes. I have moved up from a Playstation to a home computer as it is more convenient. I can honestly say that Battlefield 3 is awesome. The campaign is nothing special as games go but the multiplayer is something to behold. The graphics are breathtaking and although I have updated my graphics card the extra cost, which came out of my pension, was well worth it. I play every day and I have made some good friends both in this country and abroad too. I am not brilliant like my younger opponents but I am ranking up slowly. I got the game at a brilliant price by ordering in advance from Amazon and received the first new map "B2K"
free which is also superb. The game has recently been updated and suffers from less problems as it did at first launch. This is a seriously addictive game without doubt the best first person shooter on the market today. Buy it, you will love it.

I have put in nearly 600 hrs on this game and am still not tired of it. If you have played previous BF titles or are looking for a change from other series, you will love this game.
Be careful. It has quiet a steep learning curve and it requieres you to play as a unit with your squad. Lone wolfs will probably not enjoy this game.

Get ready for an epic Battlefield experience with massive upto 64 players carnage, amazing graphics, realistic gameplay and plenty of additional content.

If i find it so much fun...why only four stars on the game rating... well there are a multitude of reasons behind it.
first off, lets start with the one bit that the majority of people will play when they first get the game, the campaign, its a little disappointing, where in some locations it drags out a little too long, the realism is fantastic, and the quick time event, oh the quick time events, for those who don't know, these are things like smashing the spacebar repeatedly to breakthrough a window, or stabbing a rat because otherwise it eats you. These event ruined the gameplay for me as it breaks up the main conflict. a little far fetched in places but overall i would give the campaign 3 out of 5 especially when compared to modern warfare 3...

HOWEVER the online multiplayer more than makes up for it. The variety of tactics, game modes, vehicles, just everything about it fantastic, realism in commercial games is what i love to see, and guns with bipods, being able to lie down, run up to a barricade and then deploy the bipod just in time to give you enemies hell with a much more accurate, stabilised gun. The ranking up system works a treat, you can earn score per class of character you like to play(sniper, engineer/anti-tank, assault/medic and support) so that you can unlock guns for that class, every gun also has a score system where you can get upgrades such as bipods, grips and scopes. then you have your overall rank, a simple military ranking system where you can also obtain more guns and upgrades. and if that wasn't enough ranking for you. you can also get score for your vehicles as well, tanks, ifv's, AA, attack helis, scout helis and jets all have their own score system which gives them better weapons, deploys flares, increases stealth. the online play is well...

I didnt play BC2, so this is my first BF experience since BF2 and as we all know that was epic. I had some reservations that DICE wouldnt be able to match the gameplay aspects of BF2 in BF3 and instead go more down the visual effects blah blah line. Luckily it appears they got it spot on - in multiplayer at least

Firstly - Origin & Battlelog. Cant admit the EULA scared me enough to put me off the game, and frankly they could have written pretty much any old crap in there - i still would have played it. I suspect that most of the 1-star reviewers here have got off their high horses after their oh-so-righteous reviews and are in fact playing BF3 now like everyone else (except the COD guys which is fine by me).I had no problems on install (although i didnt get the game until a week after release), setup was very straightforward. I also have grown to like the Battlelog interface after some initial doubts. The social media style of it works pretty well IMO, and inviting yer mates into servers is good - especially the bit where you automatically get put on the same team (remember the suicide-a-thon in BF2 as you tried to get in the same team?).

Single Player - well, its pretty crap have to admit. Highly linear and boring. I havent completed it yet and dont think i will. That doesnt matter though, it was never what this game was about.

Co-Op - had some fun playing this actually, and the unlocks available make it worthwhile. Some annoying parts, especially in the last mission on hard but overall pretty good. Looking forward to future missions.

Multiplayer - Its GOT IT! it has, the BF feel is well and truley there. Especially on the large, 64 player maps, its a complete and wonderfully immersive experience.

Let's get the obvious stuff out of the way - graphics and sounds are top notch. They blow COD away. They're brilliant.
The problem is, they're not enough to make BF3 a good game.

Single player campaign is a joke. 6 hours of unimaginative gameplay, scripted beyond belief with a plot that's a plain and simple Black Ops rip off. You take a step from designed path - you get 5 seconds to "get back into the combat zone". It tries to be COD but fails. COD may be scripted and short but at least the campaign feels like an epic action movie. The one in BF3 feels like cheap copycat of that epic movie.

Multiplayer - I had such high hopes for this. No kids with tubes, no silly killstreaks, less camping and vehicles. All of that gone to waste. Spawning system is WORSE than COD. Seriously, I though you couldn't make worse but DICE managed it! In TDM on a big map members of enemy team can spawn just around the corner. Weapon strength is weird. Basic sniper rifles sometimes need 3-4 shots to take someone down. And camping... well that's just people. Apparently they will camp even if it doesn't give them any benefit.

The Insult - Origin.
It's not enough you have to pay for the game, no. You have to install spyware called Origin. Wait, that's not it! Then you have to install another spyware as a browser plugin! So we pay EA money to spy on us. Great! Rest assured EA this is the last game I bought that uses Origin.

And as for your spying needs - you can watch me play on Steam all you want.
