Product Description

The definitive guide to motoring in a post-apocalyptic world.

Just what will motoring be like in a post-apocalyptic world that’s been blown to bits by nuclear bombs or a massive comet? It’s a burning question that’s on literally nobody’s mind, and we give you all the answers in this brand new, incredibly cheerful Top Gear DVD Embarking on a terrifying journey into the future, we show you how to drive to work in the perpetual darkness of a Nuclear Winter, how to make motorsport exciting when there’s only two racing drivers left alive, and, in a world where all cars are bristling with weapons, how to survive the savage, explosive fury of a Doomsday M.O.T test.

And amongst all the nuclear carnage, we also tackle the ultimate petrolhead’s dilemma – what cars would you take for a final drive if there was only one barrel of petrol left on the planet? The explosions are huge, the cars are superb, so relax and enjoy.

PS. This frightening vision of a post-nuclear world is backed up by top scientists, in case you think it’s us just cocking about. James May & Richard Hammond.

Brand New for 2010 Never seen on TV!

Little luxuries that I like to spend my earnings on are (quite rightly) Top Gear DVDs. Challenges, Great Adventures, Winter Olympics, you name it. Clarkson, Hammond and May just never-ending in their hilarious, motoring antics. I don't think I can get enough of the show. It's just essential entertainment.

Which is why, naturally, I had my eye on Apocalypse for quite some time. But also because it was exclusive to DVD, and that the after-Christmas period saw this reduced to an absolute bargain price. I couldn't really see any reason NOT to get this.

Top Gear: Apocalypse is basically Hamster and Captain Slow on their own this time. With Jezza off on his `Italian Job', Richard and James decided to film a DVD of their own to keep fans happy. And true to the boys' nature, they're mucking around. And they justify this, by donning goggles, shaggy-clothing, war-paint (on a REALLY bad hair day!) and explain how to survive in a post-apocalyptic world.

Immediately, Apocalypse scores with its premise. To see Hammond and May in their bunker (kitted out with Quavers and a bizarre selection of DVDs i.e. Strictly Come Dancing), and mucking around in this setting is hilarious. Hamster and Captain Slow crack open their typical humour and, like the exceptional characters that they are, entertain in a variety of ways.

To begin with, Richard and James show you how to drive to work in the pitch darkness of Nuclear Winter, relying purely on satnav to navigate the roads and obstacles. One can immediately see where this goes, yet it's still worth watching the results...and other drivers, police and ambulances arrive on the scene! It's top-notch stuff, as is the `Doomsday M.O.T.' test, which is essentially a giant version of Robot Wars (I MISS that show!

I was given this DVD for Christmas and after watching it I can tell you that this is not a bad watch but it is seriously nothing compared to Top Gear's usual standard. It features Just Hammond and May and it features very VERY cheap effects and props but I think it knows that its a cheap-o production (even with a few references included). The challenges are obviously the best part and the R/C 'Robot Wars style' Car MOT test was brilliant along with RC Car 'Last Ever Race' but a lot of it like the final segment featuring the Porsche 911 and Aston Martin V12 Vantage was just like any other old episode of Top Gear as was other parts of the film and it was nowhere near as funny as it could of and should of been. In my opinion this would have been so much better with a higher budget, the whole top gear cast, slightly better effects and something like a typical top gear challenge where the team have to find perfect cars to survive a post-apocalyptic world with challenges along the way. Overall, I would say that it is not bad for a quick watch but it could have been way better. Also, as other people have stated I think that Amazon needs to check the validity of the 5 star reviews as they don't seem very realistic and have obviously been planted.

This could have been such a great DVD. Cars have been a mainstay of post-apocalyptic fiction for decades; just think of Mad Max, or the armoured taxi in 28 Days Later, or the convoys in everything from the Dawn of the Dead series to Resident Evil Apocalypse. Imagine what could have been, with Clarkson, Hammond and May making an extended challenge along the lines of the Namibia challenge, but with post-apocalyptic challenges and cars. It could have been magnificent.

Instead, we get this shoddy attempt; it has its moments, certainly, but much of it is just pointless. And the absence of Clarkson is glaring; while he can easily carry a show on his own, as his Clarkson DVDs show, the combination of May and Hammond needs the (strangely) moderating influence of Clarkson. They just aren't funny without Clarkson there telling them they're not, if that makes any sense.

It's a good watch, if you have a working fast-forward function. But I've watched it once, and now it's going up on Buy Used.

I was very excited when I saw this for sale but having bought I wish I hadn't. I sit glued to the TV when TG is on, but I didn't even finish this. I like May and Hammond, but missed Clarkson, because it's not Top Gear without him. It is just silly with no real point (humorous or otherwise). I can't recommend it, it just isn't fun. Wait til it's £3 or lower and give it a try, it may be for you, but it is quite boring in my opinion. Shame.

when I saw this DVD I had high hopes and couldn't wait to watch it.but from the moment I put it on I knew it wouldn't be very good and I was right, there is no structure to it its just a lot of useless questions that nobody wants to know.but the worst thing was that they dragged it out for 73 minutes.its just another DVD made for the Christmas rush.

Not their best but entertaining nonetheless. Some parts are a little boring, but the DVD is worth the purchase (especially if you pay nought for it as is possible to find now as second hand!) just for the sequence with the Bowler and most of all the final with the Vantage V12 and the GT3. Would buy it again.
