I had been SO,SO disappointed with a recent film i purchased and so ,thinking I knew not what to expect,I slid in the dvd----and i was pleased i did.The plot revolves around a solo girl alone in the isolated cabin.Yes, we have been here before----but the story unfolds a little differently.I cannot really tell much more, suffice as to say, that all the actors found it all pretty heavy going.I was openly 'cheering and sneering'----but wont say why!!That would give everything away.I can only advise you-very strongly-to buy!buy!buy!I am sure you will like it-I did,[and i am notoriously hard to please-so it must be good!!]

I remember the original that turned into a Cult classic, basically off the back of being banned. I found it watchable but not great to be honest. Also, being totally underwhelmed by the remakes of " The Texas Chainsaw Massacre" & " The Hills Have Eyes 2", unsurprisingly, i was a bit dubious about entertaining the idea of watching this.

I was pleasantly surprised. I found it captivating and i chose not to avert my eyes, the script isn't the greatest, but it has more than enough to hold a serious interest. The plot has been well documented enough and it comes across much stronger in the remake. The rape scene was long, sadistic, brutal, humiliating and to the point. The revenge was long, sadistic, brutal, humiliating and also to the point, with the characters coming across very well.

Well worth watching more than once.

I have seen both the original of this film, and I have seen the remake, and I will say that I believe, with no disrespect to the original, the remake I think is better.
The front of the cover of the original says that 'this woman has just brutally killed and mutilated four men beyond recognition, but no jury in America would convict her', but in the original, she doesn't quite go that far, mutilate them I mean. The killings are brutal, yes, but they were that bad. In the remake however, they are and it makes for much more horrific fun!
Sarah Butler is brilliant in the lead this time and the revenge killings are very clever and brilliantly executed. No mercy and plenty of imagination, I think this is no hold barred cinematic horror at its best.
The original was supposed to be a shocking piece of violent exploitation, but as Joel Schumacher said, everything in cinema is exploitational to an extent, but it argued, was it exploitation cinema or just a simple masterpiece? Given how long it's lasted and the fact it is seen as a classic even now, I think it's justified in being called a simple masterpiece. Revenge in films is always controversial and violent, but it also happens to be great cinema. I simply think this is a great remake and will last even longer.

I have not seen Meir Zarchi's 1978 original production of
this brutal tale but remember a little of the controversy
it generated at the time. Steven R. Monroe's remake takes the
revenge film formula to the most uncomfortable limits imaginable.

The horrific experiences endured by the character Jennifer Hills
are reversed in a victim-becomes-predator transformation which
seeks to redress the balance but only compounds violence with
further unspeakable violence. If the intention of the director was
to shock us then he has achieved his goal with a film of vacuous
and thoroughly nasty excess. It is a morally bankrupt invention.

At your own risk.

One of the best remakes of a film ever.! The original dating back to the 70s still was a good film and a horror to watch but this for a remake is better.! .. Basically a writer heads off to a cabin to continue her book in peace but is troubled by a local gang of 3 men. Thinking police will help her she's wrong there too. She goes through a horrific rape by all and left for dead. But she survives and sets up to take revenge.! When and how she gets them back you can't help but to cheer on the inside. Acting is brilliantly played by all specially the girl herself.! One to have got your collection trust me.!

Writer 'Jennifer' (Sarah Butler) whist on vacation at a remote cabin is brutally assaulted and raped by a group of locals. and left
for dead, however, she survived to take brutal revenge on those that had attacked her.
The original when released back in 1978 was at the time a shocking tale, so much so it was banned for some considerable time.
Though the revenge spree in this version is more graphic than the original and in truth better in terms of acting, it doesn't quite
live up to the 1978 version in my view.

This is a movie I personally thoroughly enjoyed. I will admit purely for the fact that as a horror fan, I usually see films where women are butchered and mutilated at the hands of males...and females. It's nice to see the victim get the upper hand for once.

Although this film is very gorey I did enjoy it. Everyones opinion will differ. To some the revenge will seem over the top, a bit unrealistic and morally out of order.

But I believe although the subject matter rape/torture etc is quite heavy/serious it isn't a film to be over analysed and taken too seriously. It is what it is, woman raped and humilated by hillbillies, woman gets her revenge on the men.

I will admit to being one of those who along with my mum was sat their cheering along. After all, it isn't real. Its just a movie.

I give it four stars because I enjoyed it, but its not a masterpiece or anything special and to a lot of people could be considered unsavoury, not for the feint hearted!
