Product Description

Detective Superintendent Sandra Pullman heads The Unsolved Crime and Open Case Squad (UCOS), cracking previously unsolved crimes from the past. Her team are three ex policemen; Gerry Standing, Jack Halford and Brian Lane, who have all opted for early retirement. In series 7 they reopen a case when the victim s daughter provides new evidence - from a psychic. A fashion designer s retrospective reignites the mystery of his stabbing during a party eight years ago. When the team are approached by a known paedophile who confesses to murder they find themselves trying to prove his innocence. A woman on remand brings information to UCOS about an apparently accidental fire 14 years ago and an old adversary brings them fresh information on a 30 year old bank job that threatens to finish the unit forever. SPECIAL FEATURES: Behind the Scenes footage, Out Takes, Subtitles

There’s something wonderfully mature about New Tricks, and that’s not meant in any kind of condescending way. Seven series into the show, it’s still delivering interesting stories, it still holds the attention, and it still remains very worthy of your time.

At its heart, it remains the compelling cast that makes New Tricks so engaging. Dennis Waterman, Amanda Redman, Alun Armstrong and James Bolam are on fine form here, clearly having a ball having been given such interesting material to work with. The writing, too, continues to evolve and improve as well.

In series seven of New Tricks, we’re still following The Unsolved Crime and Open Case Squad, with its staff of hauled-out-of-retirement policemen. But the crimes are getting that bit nastier, the characters all have interesting subplots to attend to, and the guest stars more than adding their own two-penneth.

It’s quality drama, clearly made by and for grown-ups, and it’s all the better for it. In spite of its name, you won’t find an abundance of gimmicks or mass innovations in New Tricks. Instead, you’ll find an adherence to the basics, and good stories, very well told. More, please. --Jon Foster

Series 7 provides a welcome return to top form. I'd felt in series 6 that the format was running out of steam, as it featured several confusing and overly political episodes along with a worrying trend of removing all references to the main characters' private lives. This gave the show a feeling of being just another generic cop show. Thankfully this series addresses those problems. There are still serious elements, but they aren't dealt with in a lecturing manner as they were last year. Even better, we get to see more of the characters outside work hours and even the regular meeting place of the pub is re-introduced after being missing for a while. For the first time the series also features 10 episodes rather than the usual 8 with no loss of quality.

For such a strong season only the first episode is weak with its routine clairvoyant plot, which series 1 did so much better, along with providing an unsatisfactory low-key conclusion to last series' cliffhanger. Episode 2 picks things up well with a great tale involving Brian delving obsessively into books and coming up against several excellent guest stars. From then on the series manages its perfect mixture of well-written plots, interesting characters and gentle comedy. Included are tales of death at a chocolate factory, the fashion industry, graffiti artists (featuring a very bad actor doing his RADA version of a streetwise punk) and the boxing industry, along with the return of several faces from earlier seasons and many familiar actors. Highlights are Jack's declaration that he can sum up what Brian has achieved on twitter in five words (I could do it in two) along with one of the strongest dramatic moments in the whole seven year run where Jack breaks every rule in the book to get his man.

Series 7 has come back with a bang. Things slowed down a bit in series 6 but now better than ever, the stories were gripping the actors as usual brilliant. Would have liked a bit more info on Sandra's brother situation was he charged with anything, it was never mentioned again he just appeared.Has her mother, the wonderful Sheila Hancock disapeared? Looking forward to 8 hope they can keep up the same standard. Best show on the box.

I'm so pleased to see the group back in top form. Many thanks to the actors, directors, writers and crew for returning the programme to what I think is its unique niche: mysteries and drama with humorous antics along the way. Series 7 brings back those higher energy levels, and once again we get to experience more about each character. I loved the scuffle between Gerry and Brian in the earlier series, and there's another presented this time round. Jack and Sandra are back to being perfect - sometimes sarcastic, sometimes tolerant, always up for bending the rules with a smile. Happy to see Strickland get in on the act in one episode.

Bring on Series 8, 9, 10... We'll be buying if it continues at this level!

This series is, as with previous ones, a well written drama with some good touches of humour. I know there are people who 'knock' this drama, but I find it a refreshing change from the modern ideas full of violence, blood and (rather disgusting) swearing.

In my opinion, this drama shows what a good script can accomplish when spoken and acted by real stars. Excellent performances, as always, from all four main characters.

Highly recommended

This is the best series of any on both sides of the ATLANTIC!! Had to buy a special DVD player and pay postage to the USA as well as currency conversion and well worth the effort and expense. PBS introduced us to this series by playing the first two seasons and then left us high and dry. For any who do not know the premise it is about 3 older policemen who come out of retirement to join forces with a younger woman at the police services to form a new department. UCOS ~ Unsolved Crime and Open Case Squad. The writing is fantastic. WItty without being obnoxious, and the crime solving is not only believable but the backstories are very human and true to life with foibles and warts for all to see. HIGHLY recommended for all ages but especially for adults who are looking for intelligent entertainment. Apparently GB now has a rating system as the newer seasons sport an over 14 warning. Not sure why as content is NEVER anything that would be viewed here in the states as objectionable to anyone except maybe younger they might not understand it as it is not dummied down. Intelligent, witty, fun and thought provoking are a few of the words I would use to describe this long running series and hopefully will continue for many more seasons!

First dvd didn't arrive. Amazon re-shipped and I received my order in a week.
Terrific service.

This season doesn't seem to have as much humor as the first few,
but worth watching nonetheless. Not all the noise and chases and violence that
is so prevalent in other cop shows, but interesting plots and characters and a bit of fun.
One of my favorites.
