This Lance Comfort directed film is a taut little thriller with keen central performances from Tony Britton and William Lucas. The film has some good location filming and an interesting musical score by Brian Fahey. The picture and sound quality are very good and comes with informative liner booklet. Well worth watching...

This 1963 crime movie stars William Lucas, who would later play Dr Gordon in the early 70's TV series "Black Beauty", here he plays Jacko Thomas, a dangerous criminal who while on a train manages to escape his police guard.
His eventual destination is an isolated hotel in the Dartmoor countryside, having arranged a rendezvous with a man named Tredgar, (Eddie Byrne) who's arranged a safe passage for Jacko and his sister, Jean (played by Christina Gregg) who has no knowledge of her brother's murderous personality, also booking into the hotel are an ex-policeman and a novelist, (Robert Urquhart and Tony Britton).

The story provides a few twists and turns along the way, as the movie progresses to it's unpredictable climax. This British B-movie is an effective crime drama, helped by solid performances, and also by the fact that the movie was shot on location at a lonely rural farmhouse, which lends the movie extra atmosphere.

The movie was directed by Lance Comfort, who had a strong reputation for bringing out the best in the B-movies he made. The black and white picture and sound quality are good, no extras or subtitles. The included 2-page leaflet provides brief biographies of the director and the main cast.
For fans of vintage British B-movies, this is well worth a look.

Full of "red herrings", this is a film that must be seen from beginning to end, because it isn't exactly clear who is who and what is what, until the very end. That is the beauty of this gripping story.

A very good story, very atmospheric settings and good acting. Good for the collection, it starts you thinking from the beginning. Don't expect this film to be predictable; it is not!
