Gorehounds will be kept very happy --Film4.com

Niftily nastly slice 'n' dice --Time Out

Demons is probably Lamberto's best film, not because it approaches Mario's work, but because it's so ludicrously entertaining. --Combustible Celluloid --Combustible Celluloid

Demons 2 looks just as good as the original on bluray with a great picture and loads of bonus material, the story follows on from the original but takes a different direction, this time its set in an apartment block and the demons are once again summoned to wreck havoc, great horror movie sequel with a similar budget, lots of cool bloody gore effects and classic demons, not quite as violent as the original but still a worthy addition to any cult classic horror collection, great transfer, the demons live on.

Distributor Arrow Video (UK)

Way back where it all began, a UK distributor by the name of Arrow Video burst onto the HD horror scene with a Blu-ray release of George A Romero's seminal classic zombie shocker, Dawn of the Dead. In what now seems like an eternity ago, this early Arrow release also made for a very early Obscura review showing high hopes for a distributor who appeared to at least take their releases seriously and also deliver a fair amount of effort into their overall product.

Much time has passed since the early days of collecting with various Arrow Blu-ray releases having come and gone, some having seen pretty decent releases, some having seen pretty serious issues with the finished product and with Lamberto Bava's Demons movies having already been held up for well over a year due to difficulties in obtaining a high definition source, fans everywhere were nervously awaiting the latest Blu-ray releases which would again prove to be at least a little controversial once finally made available.

So, to understand the latest horror offering we first need to go back to 1985 where the Italian zombie genre had pretty much run its course. Classic titles had come and gone and apart from a couple of notable US releases, the zombie genre overall appeared to have been running out of steam. This however was all about to change with Lamberto Bava's venture into the genre. Now I know what you're thinking, are these zombies or demons? (a similar argument would eventually surface with Danny Boyle's classic shocker 28 Days Later) well these "demons" certainly appear to share some characteristics with their zombie cousins.

A documentary is shown on TV of group of teens who investigate the legendary forbidden zone, in which a Demon infestation once took place.

When finding a lifeless corpse of a demon, one of the teens causes the resurrection of it, by spilling some of their blood and the demon makes it's way into the nearby world by TV-broadcast.

An unlucky girl, having her birthday-party at that time, gets possessed by the demon while watching the documentary and soon the entire building in which she lives turns into a living nightmare....

It's exactly the same as the first one, only this time its set in an apartment block, ad a dog and a child get demonised.

It's still slickly made, and of course the dubbing is truly awful, especially when you know half of the cast are talking English, but we watch these films for the sheer audacity of the whole proceedings.

We have oiled body builders in a car park, one of the most boring birthday parties going, and some really weird little gremlin chasing after a pregnant woman.

The main problem with the film is that it's just not scary, and the make up isn't as good as the first movie, but it's still watchable, just not memorable.

But it does feature the most inappropriate music to accompany a birth scene I have ever heard, and that alone is worth watching the film for...

Demons 2 is a great film, and a brilliant release from Arrow.

You get two discs, and a nice little booklet plus a revisable cover.

The Blu-ray transfer gets a 4/5.

While a good movie on its own it doesn't live up to the first Demons film. Its a bit hard to describe but something just feels off about it. The first movie was a really fun splatter film, this one not so much. Basic plot is people in an apartment building watch a movie, demons come through the film, turns some of the residents into said demons & chaos follows. There is still plenty of gore here but I didn't find it had as much as the Demons, Acting was ok & some actors from the first film return in different roles. One particular scene I felt went on too long is a scene with the pregnant lady in her apartment trying to get away from a small demon. Asia Argento also has a small part in this, Lamberto Bava also has an uncredited role. Not too many special features, a commentary, an effects feature & my favorite feature from Bava to Bava where Luigi Cozzi looks at Italian horror films from the past until now. The usual Arrow booklet is also included which I once again liked. If you really like the first Demons you will also get some enjoyment out of this one.
