Product Description

Product Description

After years of dating, Zoe (Jennifer Lopez) has decided waiting for the right one is taking too long. Determined to become a mother, she commits to a plan, makes an appointment and decides to go it alone. On the day of her artificial insemination, Zoe meets Stan (Alex O'Loughlin) a man with real possibilities. Trying to nurture a budding relationship and hide the early signs of pregnancy becomes a comedy of errors for Zoe and creates confusing signals for Stan.

From Amazon.co.uk

Jennifer Lopez and Aussie heartthrob Alex O'Loughlin are pitch-perfect foils in the romantic comedy The Back-up Plan--a film that's as light as the foam on a root-beer float, but which manages to be both romantic and very funny. Lopez, after a long absence from the big screen, is a pleasure to watch--an accomplished (and underrated) comedian who can spar and spark with the best of her peers, and better than most. Lopez's chemistry with the dreamy O'Loughlin will engage viewers completely. Lopez plays Zoe, a smart woman whose dating life has been dismal--and who finally decides to become a single mum so she can achieve at least the motherhood she's always desired. As fate would have it, she meets Mr. Perfect (or Mr. Close To It), O'Loughlin's Stan, on the very day she visits the fertility clinic and becomes pregnant with twins. The early stages of their courtship involve Zoe's increasingly desperate measures to conceal her growing belly. By the time she confesses her condition, Stan is smitten--but with hormones on both sides roiling, and reality about to set in as the birth approaches, both Zoe and Stan get cold feet. If the plot of The Back-up Plan is a bit predictable, the flinty performances of both Lopez and O'Loughlin keep the viewer utterly engaged. Supporting actors Eric Christian Olsen, as Zoe's best guy pal, and the lovely and hilarious Michaela Watkins (The New Adventures of Old Christine) turn in terrific performances, too, and cameos by veterans including Albert Klein (as Zoe's hyperenthusiastic doctor), Tom Bosley, and Linda Lavin round out the excellent acting ensemble. The Back-up Plan also features an engaging soundtrack with a danceable tune by Lopez, "What Is Love?" and memorable songs by Colbie Caillat, India Arie, and more. The Back-up Plan shows that love may not always go according to plan--OK, it never does--but it's worth the ride, however the heart ultimately gets there. --A.T. Hurley

I took my mum to see this movie and to be honest i wasnt expecting great things as i usually find JLO's films abit naff. However i have seen Alex Oloughlin in Moonlight and we think he's cute so we gave it a go. Call us shallow if you like..
We thought it was very funny in parts and we enjoyed it alot. There were outtakes at the end too which is always good for a giggle.
Having children myself i could relate to many parts of the film. Couples or girls night out, go for it!!
Well worth a watch as its rare to find anything funny or light hearted these days.

Alot of reviews say "terrible" or "bad!"but some say "funny, great , love it!" even "give it a chance". I agree with give it a chance. You can't let other people tell you wether its bad or good! People have different views and opinions - you have to get your own. The reason I say this is because I read these reviews and decided to give it ago anyway. I now LOVE this film and so have come back to write this.I don't mean to affend anyone who wrote a bad review or even I good one , I just want to say GIVE IT AGO and you never know. Like me you could end up loving it or
hating it, but you never know till you try.

Anyway its a rom com (not much com) about a woman who wants a baby so makes it happen but then meets a great (great actor) man and falls in love. This complicates things.... see how it turns out .

Zoe is finally ready to start her family, but one problem faces her, she is yet to meet Mr Right! So she moves onto her back-up plan. Become a single mother through artificial insemination. Shortly after the procedure she climbs into a cab where she meets Stan, they both lose the cab and Stan decides to follow Zoe. Throughout varies meetings Stan finally convinces Zoe to go on a date with him. Sadly though it doesn't go very well. Not only does Zoe stain her new dress, they set the place on fire and Zoe finds out she is pregnant. When she tells Stan on their romantic getaway, he is angry for her not telling him before. The next day Zoe leaves, thinking the relationship is over. But Stan convinces her otherwise.

Within twenty minutes, you know the plot. Which I have to admit is a pretty big downfall in the film. Despite this though I didn't want to switch the film off. (Unlike most of J-Lo's films)Unlike most of the other reviewers I think the characters have charisma. Some of the jokes are very funny, and it's scary how realistic the things Zoe experiences during her pregnancy are. Such as her breakdowns and sudden food cravings.

There are quite a few sexual references throughout the film, so you might want to keep the under-13's away until they 'come of age' so to speak.

Overall, a good rom-com, which could have been made great, no brilliant, with some simple plot changes. But a definite must have in the romantic comedy section of your DVD collection.

I watched this with my daughter and we thought it was very funny. A nice romantic comedy with an unusual story line. However the life lesson I picked out here was the need to be patient and wait. Here was a woman who had given up on Mr. Right and decided to create a family using AI, on the same day that it happened she met Mr.Right, who turned out to be Mr. Right in every sense of the word. I liked Alex O'Loughlin. I think he and JLO were a well matched couple. It was good to see JLO back in a romcom after a long hiatus. This movie is light-hearted and funny. The DVD is packed full of special features which includes deleted scenes, trailers and the making of back up plan.

This film seems to have all the right ingredients, but somehow they totally fail to gel. The storytelling is uneven, J-Lo is miscast, and overall I struggled to actually care enough about the characters. It's only an hour and three quarters long, but watching it felt like a chore. I didn't even properly watch it to the end, because it was obvious what was going to happen and I just didn't care enough to stick around for the details.

Glad I only rented it.

ETA: April 2014. I have since watched this movie again, to the end this time - mostly, I confess, because it was free to stream and Alex O'Loughlin is beyond gorgeous ;)

I'm still not really enormously impressed: J Lo isn't believable in the role, and the film is definitely overlong.

That said, with lower expectations, it was better than I remembered If you're in the market for a silly movie and an excuse to drool over O'Loughlin, then it's worth borrowing or renting. It is quite entertaining in retrospect seeing a few actors who've gone on to bigger and better things, and as a way to waste a couple of hours it's more than acceptable. I'm almost tempted to raise my review to three stars but I don't think it's quite merited. Definitely 2 3/4 stars, though.
