From Paris with Love features John Travolta (Pulp Fiction) as Charlie Wax, a rather two-dimensional, gung-ho CIA operative, who despite his complete lack of professionalism seems to have a knack of getting the job done. He is tasked with eliminating a drug-fuelled terrorist cell in Paris, where he is partnered with a low-level CIA embassy staff (James Reese - Jonathan Rhys Meyers) who struggles to keep pace with Wax and his unorthadox playbook. The film features a few great action scenes where it is easy to just sit back and enjoy the carnage without getting caught up in potholes of the rather flimsy plot. Travolta seems to relish his role as the brash agent Wax, despite it not requiring a great degree of flexibility (He wears the same outfit the entire movie and seems to be in the same laissez-faire frame of mind regardless of the situation) but the honest surprise is Meyers (Match Point), who single-handedly carries the whole movie with his acting and deserves a lot of credit for saving the entire thing from the precipice.

The film - despite the weak content - is beautifully directed by Pierre Morel who uses the beautiful back-drops of Paris to great effect. The film flows seamlessly between action scenes and discourse and feels very fluid. There is even a little nod to Tarantino by including the 'Royal with Cheese' reference that was championed by Travolta in Pulp Fiction.

This is first class escapisim, how anybody could dodge so many bullets is beyond believe, there is not too much blood and guts anyway, and we are not expected to take it too seriously. The BlU RAY quality is top, and with a good multi channel sound track it is good entertainment.

Well it depends what you want from a movie, what mood you're in and 100's of other things that decide whether it rocks your boat or not. For a piece of pure entertainment with action and humor this is the one for you and me.
I love this film and its only Tuesday and I watched it for the first time Saturday and have seen it 4/5 times already.
Travolta is Travolta but what's wrong with that? If you don't like his action movies then don't buy/watch it. JRMeyers is great, not outstanding but better than good but for me overall it's an easy watch and pure entertainment that I could watch over and over again.

James Reece has an enviable life in Paris and a beautiful French girlfriend, but his real passion is his side job as a low-level operative for the CIA.

All James wants is to become a bona fide agent and see some real action. So when he's offered his first senior-level assignment, he can't believe his good luck until he meets his new partner, special agent Charlie Wax - a trigger-happy, wisecracking, loose cannon who's been sent to Paris to stop a terrorist attack.

Wax leads James on a white-knuckle shooting spree through the Parisian underworld that has James praying for his desk job.

But when James discovers he's a target of the same crime ring they're trying to bust, he realises there's no turning back...and that Wax himself might be his only hope for making it through the next forty-eight hours alive....

This film is from the creators of Taken, but this movie couldn't be so far from that movie in so many ways. If you like Travolta circa Face/off and Swordfish, then you are in for a real treat. He puts in his most maniacal performance as Wax, who will probably be the screens biggest anti-hero this year.

Travolta chews the scenery and commands every scene he is in, leaving poor Rhys-Meyers with very little to do, apart from carry the one little bit of story that this film tries to hold.

It's one of those films that you are either going to love or really really hate with a passion. I for reasons unknown to myself really enjoyed this, and it kind of reminded me of the good old fashioned action movies of the eighties that never took themselves seriously and had more balls than the PG-13 ones we all know and hate now.

Well this film has found it's balls, and holds them proudly in its hands.

"Royale with cheese” is just one of the great lines John Travolta has in this underrated action film. JT plays a loose cannon special agent who gets paired up with an unwilling partner in pursuit of some terrorists. There is lots to enjoy in this film with more or less non-stop action, shootouts and good use of the word m*****f***** from Travolta. He is on top form as the hooker s**ging, coke snorting lunatic and his quick fire dialog is top notch. Similar to that of The Taking Of Pelham 123 but with more comedy flare. There is a great car chase involving JT hanging out the side of a speeding Audi with a rocket launcher in hot pursuit of one of terrorists which is particularly satisfying. All the stunts are done for real which I prefer to stupid CGI. The chase is a bit like the one in Ronin and the Bourne films. Excellent. However said that, the CGI mayham in Die Hard 4.0 when the cop car smashes into the helicopter is pretty damm good. But that is done for real to some exstent. I just hate pure CG, trying to make the impossible possible buts ends up looking like a bad cartoon

This film is by the director of Taken (one of the best action films ever) which really shows. And I mean in a good way. It's consistent, stylish and has the back drop of Paris. If you like Taken or Ronin you will love From Paris With Love. It has more of a story than you expect in a film like this and has a nice little twist. Yes, it could have easily have been a load of rubbish but with the makers of Taken behind it, it really pays off.

I want to see JT in more roles like this, you know, like we used to. He is still one of my favourite actors but needs to do a few more edgy things in my opinion. Check out Killing Season, JT last film, because that has him playing a harder role than Old Dogs!
