Product Description

Product Description

Low-budget horror directed by Jack Messitt. At a rundown cinema in a quiet suburban town, a group of teenagers attend the midnight screening of a 1970s cult horror film, unaware that the film's director and star escaped from a psychiatric ward five years earlier and are on the loose. As the midnight movie begins, the kids heckle its old black-and-white scenes - but they are brought up with a jolt when the killer appears to butcher one of their friends onscreen. They soon realise that they are locked inside the theatre with only the crazed killer for company.

I wasn't sure what to expect from this one, as the copy I rented seemed to be slightly digitised, like a web video, despite being an official rental dvd. However the plot started well, with a mental patient's obsession with his old film, and then moved onto a showing of the same legendary cult movie at a small town movie theatre with a sparse audience of enjoyable characters. The leads are likeable and have great moments. The acting is a little patchy from the cast, veering from slightly amateurish to very good. There's also a really stupid error in the script where a cop fails to recognise someone he only spoke to ten minutes before. However, after a meandering start, once the gore and suspense get going, they escalate very well towards a harsh and very tense climax. The director certainly has a gift, and the moderately low budget of his film doesn't stop his talent for suspense from shining through. Many chase and attack scenes are very well handled and supported very well by sounds effects (especially the sharpening of the killer's weapon) and music. The weapon itself is original and causes gruesome, gory injuries. The killer also manages to look and act very frightening and imposing in the majority of his scenes. There's also great use of a hugely fun and underused Hollywood idea of a film within a film. It's a very good low budget horror slasher that's got enough originality tension and effort for three of its competitors.

i watch this the other day expecting a average b movie, but hey what a surprise i loved it.yes it is a b movie with no well known actors and the acting is below average but take that away and this is a very enjoyable horror with decent special make up effects.inventive is the word i would use because it is what makes the film.the idea of watching a horror film where the murderer uses the film and cinema to kill his victims he comes out of the film kills his victims and then takes then back in to the film so you see it happening while watching it.its a bit difficult to explain fully but watch it and your see.i would describe this film as demons meets leatherface.if youve seen both these films your see what i mean and some of the ideas could of come from

This is a very cool and original horror film with a new and iconic character as the killer, not quite as cool as Jason or Freddy but good enough to want a sequel!! The story is really good and has some imaginative and new directions for a horror film, certainly worth checking out, it has your usual teen cast fodder for the picking of the killer! If your into the horror genre then this is certainly worth getting its good midnight movie viewing!! And yes it has some quality gore moments too!!

The plot is interesting and some of the special effects are not too bad but the script, directing and acting are all terrible. The only emotion it invoked in me was boredom. A real shame, as under a different director it could probably have been a half decent movie.

I probably would never have bought this usually, but, on the strength of the other reviews and the price, I did. After struggling through the first 45 minutes of quite possibly some of the worst acting and plot I've ever seen (and I've endured America's Sweethearts at the cinema) I actually threw this in the bin. That bad, and simply not worth the effort in my opinion.
