Product Description

Kick Ass tells the story of average teenager Dave Lizewski (Aaron Johnson), who decides to take his obsession with comic books as inspiration to become a real-life superhero. As any good superhero would, he chooses a new name -- Kick Ass -- assembles a suit and mask to wear, and gets to work fighting crime. There’s only one problem – Kick Ass has absolutely no superpowers. His life is forever changed as he inspires a sub-culture of copy cats, meets up with a pair of crazed vigilantes -- an eleven year old sword-wielding dynamo, Hit Girl (Chloë Moretz), and her father Big Daddy (Nicolas Cage) -- and forges a friendship with another fledging superhero, Red Mist (Chris Mintz-Plasse). But thanks to the scheming of a local mob boss Frank D’Amico (Mark Strong), that new alliance will be put to the test.

From Amazon.co.uk

The cinematic equivalent of a half case of Red Bull chased with donuts, Kick-Ass is a giddy, violent experience--and not your average superhero movie. Based on the comic book by Mark Millar and John Romita Jr., it offers a set of heroes who are decidedly without superpowers: Dave Lizewski (Aaron Johnson) decides he'll be just like a comic-book character, and puts on a ridiculous green suit to fight crime as the mysterious Kick-Ass. Luckily, somebody else had the same idea and comes along to rescue the incompetent crusader: Big Daddy (Nicolas Cage) and his daughter Hit Girl (Chloe Moretz), who also happen to be running around town wearing masks and vanquishing evil. And here we have the movie's masterstroke: Hit Girl, a pint-sized preteen who slaughters bad guys and swears like a sailor on leave (and was the focus of a measure of controversy when the movie was released). The main target of our heroes is a gangster (Mark Strong, Sherlock Holmes), whose neglected son (Christopher Mintz-Plasse, McLovin from Superbad) figures he might just pull on a costume himself and become… Red Mist! (One of the many funny things about Kick-Ass is that the superhero names are hopelessly lame.) Director Matthew Vaughn is operating at the same glib level as his Layer Cake, with cutesy song cues galore and a freewheeling appetite for cartoon violence. This means the movie's high wears off quickly, but it does get high--a crazy, hilarious kick. All that, plus Nicolas Cage executes a deadly Adam West imitation when he pulls on his cape and cowl. That's entertainment. --Robert Horton

It's 3 in a row now from director Matthew Vaughan.
Following on from his no nonsense feature debut 'Layer Cake' was the charming 'Stardust' and now this little gem.

Filmed at the same time as the comic was being written; infact the film got finished before the comic in the end - Kick Ass is a refreshing blast of comic book celluloid.

It follows the exploits of Dave Lizewski (Aaron Johnson) who one day, decides to become a superhero and inadvertently attracts the attention of a couple of other super dudes called Big Daddy (Nicholas Cage) and his 11 year old daughter Hit Girl (Chloe Moretz). He then becomes embroiled in their plans to bring down a rather nasty bit of work (portrayed by the ever reliable Mark Strong) as well as being the catalyst for the appearance of another wannabe real life superhero.

Without giving any of the plot away, mark my words when I tell you that if you are in the least bit offended by profanity and excessive, but wonderfully executed hyper kinetic violence - stay away. However if you like both the former and latter as well as an involving story, some laughs and some suprising human drama, then kick back - watch and enjoy Kick Ass.

I only hope that if and when a sequel is released, that it not only lives up to the standard set by this primer but exceeds it.

Ignore the people who give this movie low ratings and say it's mediocre, these people just don't get this movie. It has everything comedy, drama and great action scenes. Some people complain that the tone of the movie is 'uneven' and that it struggles to balance itself in the real world because of how ridiculous it gets near the end, but i see this movie as a cross between the real world and a superhero movie, and i love it. The acting is great, Aaron Johnson plays kick-ass who is the guy you relate too throughout the whole movie and he did a great job, Mark Strong did a great job as the villain, he isn't on a 'Hans Gruber' kind of level but he's much better than most movie villains right now, Chris Mintz-Plasse also did a great job as Red mist. But obviously the highlights of the movie by far are Hit-girl and Big Daddy and the violence. Nicolas Cage is hilarious as Big Daddy, and also incredibly bad-ass when killing bad guys. Chloe Grace Moretz is simply amazing as Hit-Girl. If it was just any young actress playing Hit-Girl it wouldn't have half the impact that it does with Moretz playing her, she steals every scene she is in. She is the Han Solo of Kick-Ass, when you see this movie you will probably want to watch more films with her in as i did because she is equally brilliant in 'Let Me In'. The action scenes are pretty much the funnest action scenes i have ever seen, because of the acting, effects, directing, music and just plain awesomeness. Oh yeah, that's another thing, The music in this movie is SO good, it all fits perfectly with the movie. If you love Spider-Man, X-men, iron man etc. then buy this movie now, it will become one of your favorites because it ranks up there with Spider-man 2, X2 and The Dark Knight as one of the greatest superhero movies ever.

I will not be covering the storyline - as others seem to have done that fine - but I will say that this film has something for everyone, great storyline, great acting, plenty of action (some might say too much explicit violence - but not me, it suited the plot of the movie). It had humour in the right places, it had edge of you seat drama. The main characters were a treat to watch - let's hope there is a sequel !! You can see this movie has one of the highest star rating of any movie on Amazon.

And it's a British film - see, we can make great movies !!

KICK ASS!!!! Absolutely AMAZING!!!!!!!!!! You can't just watch this film once ; funny, sad, violent, serious, violent, deep, violent, dynamic, violent, chaotic, very violent with a jot of pathos, comic, fascinating and extremely violent. With lots of violence!

What makes Kick Ass so different from any other film of this genre, being that of the comic-book culture? Kick Ass, to my mind is a parody and a parody of a parody that has been beautifully crafted and cast with a particular genius and flair; the musical score that accompanies the film, and, especially, the fight scenes, is a work of undiluted brilliance. Above all, Kick Ass is just so much fun to watch, benefiting from a cleverly crafted story written by Scottish-born Mark Millar (in an environment dominated by and mostly populated by Americans), well directed acting and a very capable and well suited cast including Mark Strong, most convincing as a Gangster, Aaron Johnson, Chloe Mortez and Nicholas Cage in one of his most surreal performances yet.

This film is truly a cocktail of genius!!!

Based on a comic book by Mark Miller, `Kick-Ass' is a film about a geeky looser who dreams of becoming a superhero. After getting a costume and getting on the news he discovers he isn't the only wannabe hero on the streets as the highly trained and ultra-violent Big Daddy and Hit girl are also pursuing their own war on crime which Kick-Ass is drawn into.

With its high level of violence and bad language `Kick-Ass' is defiantly not something that everyone will enjoy but personally I think it is a great film and is definitely one of the best comic book movies ever made. While some of the special effects are less that spectacular in a couple of places they are generally quite good and the plot and pacing are also very good. All the people involved in the film give good performances but the best has to be Chloe Moretz who gives a brilliant performance as Mindy/Hit-Girl despite her young age.

`Kick-Ass' is an extremely entertaining film that should be enjoyable for any fan of comic book movies and is easily one of my favourite movies of 2010.
