The 1980 spaghetti splatter classic Zombie Holocaust makes it's UK Blu ray debut here from new genre label 88 Films as part of their Italian Collection range, presented completely uncut, uncensored and looking better than ever. This release comes complete with an insert booklet with notes by writer, director and film critic Callum Waddel, a postcard reproduction of the theatrical poster art and a reversible cover sleeve with an alternative more retro vibe.
Directed by Marino Girolami who was the father of the prolific Italian film director Enzo G Castelleri, Zombie Holocaust followed the similar but ultimately superior Lucio Fulci Italian walking dead flick Zombie Flesh Eaters, a movie which it so closely aped to the point where it plagurised locations, recycled second unit scenes and even recast stars Ian McCulloch and Dakar. Despite the similarities, Girolami's decidedly low rent movie could never hold a light to Fulci's glorious widescreen extravaganza. Often coming across as a hack job with weaker special effects, plodding narrative and incessant eletronic score from Nico Fidenco which sounded for all the world like a verbatim rehash of his work on Joe D'Amato's trashy Emanuelle and the Last Cannibals, this could be a chore to sit through for the uninitiated in the art of Italian exploitation. Plot holes abound, continuity is often sketchy and the plentiful gore looks like leftover butchers scraps but despite all of the minus points Zombie Holocaust remains thoroughly entertaining in a cheap grindhouse kind of way and can be so over the top in it's execution that fans of outrageous Euro schlock will definatly get their moneys worth.

There are lots of great 80's zombie-cannibal movies out there and this is certainly one of them, a gem of a movie that has a great story that combines all the best elements of the 80's into one, you have cannibals, zombies, mad human experiments, plenty of nudity and gruesome gore!! The story starts out with doctors investigating body parts going missing from the hospital, it leads them to believe the mysterious people involved are linked to a cannibalistic island, on visiting the island to further their beliefs they discover things more shocking than they could possibly imagine, the movie does have a great cast of actors and actresses, notably the beautiful Alexandra Delli Colli who is no stranger to full nudity in this movie much like Ursula Andress did in mountain of the cannibal god, the practical effects budget is marvellous, glorious blood and guts and gore and plenty of it, (CERTAINLY UNCUT) this movie is really well made and stands out from other movies of its kind I think, if you love these old cannibal movies then certainly check this out, the new 88-films Blu-ray release is great value for money.

Blu-ray picture is very slightly grainy but looks fantastic compared to DVD, (1080pHD)
Features are great, you get a feature length documentary called Eaten Alive which delves deep into the phenomenon of the late cannibal movies with interviews with directors etc, running time 85-minutes,
Deleted scene, trailer,
English language (not too badly dubbed) and Italian language with English subtitles,
16-page mini book, reversible sleeve with different art, 1 zombi holocaust post card,
Region B only, running time 84-minutes, 1980.

This is a cheesy 80's film. In a badly dubbed NYC body parts are going missing and it appears to be the work of people from Kito, a South East Asian island. A small group goes to the island because....if makes a film. The island is filled with cannibals who prefer to eat raw innards or a nice stew. Oh yeah, there is a handful of zombies too. Yes they ransacked Laurie's apartment to steal a knife she had hanging on the wall. Bad rubber parts.

Of course when a pretty blonde is capture by a group of "savages" they must be stripped naked like Bo Derek or Ursala Andress. Don't blame me, I don't make the rules. Alexandra Delli Colli is a natural blonde.

Hahaha - a wonderful little grindhouse epic combining the cannibal genre with the zombie genre which exploded onto Italian screens in the 1970's and early 1980's . Ian McCulloch shines as he battles lumbering cadavers and gut munchers to find out the truth behind a loopy Doctors bizarre experiments. Expect all the usual fair from movies of this calibre - comic strip fun from start to finish - and a triumph in HD from those wondeful people at 88 Films - I love this !!!

Actually a better compilation than the first zombie packThe Zombie Pack [DVD] [Region 1] [US Import] [NTSC] this is more of a mixed bag than the previous one but definately worth a look at the low price it goes for, especially if your a fan of trashy films like these!

Burial Ground: Probably worth buying the box for alone (this goes for money more seperately) the film starts of with a beardy proffessor type releasing a curse that causes a zombie plague (whoops) right before a group of eurotrash swingers and a dwarf playing a child turn up for a weekend of debauchery (double whoops) Andrea Bianchi, notorious acolyte of the late fulci and purveyor of films that even italian grindhouse fans would consider in bad taste, delivers one of the sleaziest and outragous Zombie movies outside hardcore porno effort Erotic nights of the living dead, including the incestuous son played by a 30 year old dwarf and some quite nasty gore sequences. Bad taste aside the film is also lots of fun and well shot, making great use of locations and some pretty decent zombie make up. The film is presented in probably the best quality I've seen and in anomorphic 1:85:1 though with not much in the way of extras, this is probably the best of the three films in the box.

Zombie holocaust: aka Dr butcher M.D (medical deviant) the film follows ian muculloch from Zombie 2 as a journalist who travels to a carribean island that looks suspiciously like the one in Zombie 2 to investigate a cannibal cult (therby exploiting the cannibal movie craze as well as the zombie one)and coming across a mad scientist turning natives into zombies for some illogical and poorly thought out reasoning.
