Product Description

Product Description

ThThrusting players into a mature neo-noir crime drama as a vice-cop Jack Slate and his canine companion Shadow, the game introduces new gameplay elements that unify the third-person shooting and brawling genres for a brutal and relentless new action-driven experience.

Returning to Grant City, a boom town gone bust that is falling to the worst excesses of crime, greed and corruption, Dead To Rights: Retribution follows vice-cop Jack Slate as he fights to expose shadowy figures that will stop at nothing to exert their deadly influence over the crumbling metropolis. Dead To Rights: Retribution will form an original story portraying key events that shape and define Jack Slate's character including how he and Shadow first come together as partners against those who would bring the once great city to its knees.r>
Introducing an innovative new hybrid combat system, Dead To Rights: Retribution puts the full combat potential of a highly trained, highly agitated law-enforcement officer into players' hands. Use your sidearm to pick off enemies from a distance, take cover and blind-fire with the game's new ranged combat mechanics, or push the issue by taking human shields, stealing weapons with special disarm moves or dishing out Jack's own brutal brand of justice with deadly takedown moves. Jack is equally lethal in close-quarters combat, offering players branching melee combos, counter-attacks and disarms as they take the fight to the criminal element of Grant City. Jack will encounter a variety of ruthless gangs in the filthy slums and menacing alleys of Grant City, each with their own unique abilities and fighting style that will test his resolve to crush their murderous stranglehold.

Manufacturer's Description

Vice cop Jack Slate has a whole city to clean up and the only one willing to help him is his loyal canine partner Shadow. Hunted and betrayed, the pair must take on the whole corrupt city by themselves and uncover a mass conspiracy against them.

Jack is a great marksman but he can't do everything himself
The new cover system lets you pick the right time to attack
Shadow has zero tolerance for crime as well
Take on gangs of criminals with the 360 combat system

Inspired by the best of Hong Kong action cinema Jack is a master of hand-to-hand combat and a skilled marksman, allowing you to take down gangs of enemies at once in mass brawls or gun down criminals using an intuitive new cover system.

There are some situations though, where a man's best friend is better equipped to handle things and you can now not only order Shadow into action with a few simple commands but also take direct control of him at any time. With vicious disarming attacks for both man and dog this is a third person shooter with real bite.

Key Features
  • Man and Dog: Jack Slate and Shadow return to gaming with their own unique style of crime fighting and intense third person combat.
  • Hand-to-Hand: Perform brutal takedowns and take part in all-new 360 degree combat as Jack demonstrates his melee skills on the scum of Grant City.
  • Teeth-to-Bone: Take control of Shadow the dog at any time and bring down criminals with stealth as you slip through areas unnoticed and go where Jack cannot.
  • Bullet Time: Slow down time and take out enemies with ease as you make use of Jack's gun fu powers and line-up the perfect shot every time.
  • Cover Me: New cover system lets you take aim at your leisure or just blind-fire at enemies to distract them long enough for Shadow to get his teeth in.

Dead To Rights is a frantic, violent, and frequently foul mouthed third person shooter. To begin with its also a lot of fun!

The game is designed so that you won't plough through the levels armed to the teeth with arsenal, you'll need to enter into fist fights to disarm your enemies and take their weapons. To begin with the balance seems just right, however on later levels the way the game forces you to do hand to hand battle is rather ludicrous. In the last few levels enemies run towards you unaffected by your attempts to mow them down with bullets, yet despite being oblivious to gunfire a few well directed punches soon manages to stop them in their tracks. At one stage I actually emptied a cartridge of 42 machine gun bullets right into an enemies chest as they ran towards me, before promptly punching the gun out of my hands! Its a scene that made me laugh out loud, but loses its humour when it becomes a scene that becomes all too familiar. Surely it would have made far more sense to have not allowed you to have weapons at all?

The levels featuring your trusty hound Shadow mixes up the action, Shadow sneaking around stealth like and literally tearing enemies apart. After non-stop shooting and fist fights it comes as a welcome break.

In terms of basic mindless action its not a bad game, it just lacks flair. However, its those final few levels that things start to grate and you really find yourself just wanting to get to the end of a level, and these last few levels really seeming to drag themselves out. Theres about 12-15 hours gameplay on offer, depending on what difficulty setting you choose, and its fun for about 8 of those hours before it all goes a bit silly. I can't really see there being much incentive to replay either, other than for die hard achievement hounds.

If you're looking for a decent shooter at a bargain price you won't go far wrong with Dead to Rights. Or should that be semi-shooter as for much of the time you'll be utilising your melee skills as you plough a swathe through massed ranks of enemy combatants.

It's not a perfect game but it does keep you gripped as you and your trusty and rather bloodthirsty four-legged friend set about avenging the death of your father in a typically dystopian city where danger - and annoying snipers - lurk around every corner.

I think many people may have been put off buying this due to the concept of a man/dog tag team - and admittedly it IS daft - but it works surprisingly well. Unlike many companions, Shadow is actually a very useful asset, and you'll be thankful for him when surrounded by multiple foes. Plus he's simple to control; just press the up directional button and he'll savage the nearest enemy while you gain valuable breathing space. There are also a handful of missions as Shadow himself that hinge on stealth. You'll either enjoy them as a change of pace, or like me find them a bit tedious. But that may well be because I'm rubbish at that kind of thing. (Deus Ex, the horror...)
Lastly, in the current climate of ridiculously short games, Dead to Rights bucks the trend by being relatively long so you won't feel short-changed.

I wouldn't rate this above a game like 'Timeshift' in terms of a hidden bargain gem, but compared to the bland likes of 'Blacksite' et al it's one that will keep you entertained for as long as it lasts.

Maybe graphics aren't superb, but is a good action game. Melee combat isn't as good as on Bourne Conspiracy but works fine, everything combined with Shadow's help, that makes the game more fun. You can disarm enemies and after use their weapons against them, good cover system, you can use enemies as a shield, there's variety of weapons (pistols, machine guns, sub machines guns, snipers, shotguns, rocket launchers,...) and also finisher moves, brutal!!
There's also a DLC at 400 MSP and put 1250 to your gamerscore, seriously, is a good game.

Brilliant game, story line pretty good, your standard revenge story as you can tell from the title. It's Second person shooting, and also get to play as Shadow the dog, those levels are good. overall i loved this game. i recommend it.

there's not really any boring bits in this game like some other games ive played, its all action all the time, it also has a feature where you can give the dog commands, which helps a lot when jack (the main character) is surronded by enemies.

There's also a varity of weapons to use, the futher you get into the story, you can also take weapons from your enemies if you run out of ammo. i could go on..

its a great game.

Enjoyed this game, easy to play and a decent storyline (even if predictable). Shoot and punch the bad guys as you work your through the game. Nothing too difficult to master control wise.

Pretty good game. Although a lot of the levels are repetitive, the brutal kills, make up for it. It is worth a play or two
