Product Description

Product Description

Bright, funny, honest and utterly charming, Hollywood, Je T'aime is a perfect amalgam of classic American and European gay cinema.  Rather than dwelling on an uncertain future after a seemingly broken relationship,  Jerome impulsively books a trip to Los Angeles to pursue his creative dreams - leaving his Parisian home behind indefinitely.  After meeting a colourful set of characters that throw up a series of exciting and enriching relationships, both sexual and otherwise, it initially seems that the city of dreams will live up to expectations.  As time goes on though it becomes clear to Jerome that absence really does make the heart grow fonder. A timeless love story that effortlessly crosses borders, Hollywood  Je T'aime is a romantic comedy that you can appreciate  no matter where you call home.

This is a shoe string budget film which benefits from it, as indeed most do. There are some lovely unsubtle stylistic twists, like using black and white for the 'in France' shots and seeing everything Californian in glorious Technicolour.

This is not a full on gay film with regular bedroom trysts and the like. It is about the experience of a disgruntled with life gay Frenchman who goes to Hollywood to become an actor. There are some lovely scenarios and some excellent acting. The plot is a bit weak but the sub strata keeps the momentum up. The main character comes across as being too french at times which is fine cos he is, most of the interest comes with the supporting cast of misfits and lifes failures who keep managing to bring sparkle and hope to the world. I wont ruin the plot by saying what happens, just say it does have a bit of a feel good facor going on. All in all a great little film.

I've already seen Hollywood Je t'aime three times and I'm looking forward to having my own DVD copy. Eric Debets is delightful as the Parisian who travels to Hollywood seeking fame and fortune. He finds neither in the accepted sense but befriends some great characters across a wide sexual spectrum. If one word can sum up this lovely film it's inclusitivity. First-time feature director Jason Bushman makes meaningful use of his French and USA locations and Paris looks particularly magical in glistening black and white. Let's hope Jason comes up with more features of this quality.

A type of movie you can watch once and that's it. I found nothing funny in the movie. Starting with a really depressing picture of Paris, through hostile welcome at the airport in U.S. (which is, unfortunately, very true), to the departure of the main character back to Paris, the film is quite sad.
I think what makes the movie something exceptional among others gay theme films is the acting quality. It is not bad, in some part very good indeed.
I cannot give more than 3 stars, 'cause I am not completely satisfied with what I got. Nevertheless, it was not a waste of time to see it.

Hollywood Je T'Aime impresses mainly because of how polished and professional a product it is. On a technical level I particularly enjoy the artistic quality of the sound design for 5.1 surround.

After a recent major disappointment with the USA made C-grade "Tru Loved", this film has restored my faith in the talent potential of independent queer film makers.

Hollywood Je T'Aime doesn't set out to educate or lecture. It's a believable enough story to be based on real life experience. Jerome has reluctantly yet amicably separated from the man whom had thought to be the love of his life - and he is (only just) independently wealthy enough to test the possibility of a postcard perfect life on the other side of the planet.

Naturally neither California nor the Hollywood industry can live up to Jerome's expectations - but we do meet some wonderful people and get a glimpse of street life (enough to know that it's hard for the people who already live there to carve a niche for ongoing happiness).

The resolution is very reasonable and assures you that this is time well spent, and a film you'd happily see again and enjoy with friends.

Really enjoyed this film and while it is a `gay interest` film, it does capture some of the silliness of Hollywood and the fickle nature of stardom. Well done.

I gave up on this film after 40 minutes - and that on a wet sunday night with nothing else to watch. It's just dreary. Starts nowhere and goes downhill very rapidly. The plot makes no sense at all - an office worker goes to California to be an actor although he can't act and is too old. Meets a lot of odds and ends etc. I couldn't see the point of the film and wondered how it got made. Avoid it if you can - there are a lot more interesting films to watch out there. I got the film for nothing but still feel cheated!

The blurb on the cover seems to go for a Wizard of Oz comparison. Not quite sure where they got that, but this film is still worth a watch. Jerome, pining for the boyfriend who walked out on him, flees from Paris to Los Angeles on a whim.

You can guess from the surly customs official who greets him, that this isn't going to be the usual sun, sea and frolics holiday film. Instad, he works his way through a fortnight of seeing the down-to-earth Hollywood, via a friendly drag queen, a drug dealer, a lady of virtue and a couple of alomost-sexual encounters.

Much more of a European film than your standard Hollywood story with upbeat ending, and for me, more interesting because of it. The B&W start and end add impact, too.
