The classic stage farce given a modest budget movie release, stars Leslie Phillips and Joan Sims, with cameo roles for many other great comic talents, like Bill Frazer and Graham Stark. This print, the 'pink cover' version, has a moderate quality picture, but is an unedited print, allowing the viewer to see the movie as intended. Julie Ege provides much of the glamour, in a role that involves lots of running in and out of doors, some good lines, and some moderate nudity. Further glamour is provided by Benny Hill girl Trudi Van Doorn, much under-rated, who like Ege finds her top falling off once or twice as events get out of hand. It's all good fun, for anyone who has enjoyed the Carry On movies, this is more of the same, but with a style all its own. The jokes are very British, it's all good fun, and the nudity mild. It's 95 minutes of fun. Beware altenative releases, which have many edits!

.. and I do enjoy seeing naked ladies in the bath... but please be warned that if you are looking to update your old copy of this movie with this Odeon "Best Of British" version... DON'T BOTHER.

It is the same old Salm Dunk Video copy, full frame and all. The reason I bought this new Odeon release is because the amazon item page promised me a 16.9 wide screen print and I like to fill all 46" of my television monitor with a good quality picture. It was not to be. Odeon are not at fault here.. the entire blame falls on amazon. The back of the dvd box states that it is a 4:3 picture and had I known that I would have saved myself 9 quid plus overseas postage... so now I have two virtually identical copies of "Not Now, Darling" courtesy of amazon's false item description and I remain, dear reader, a victim of bollocks!!

The movie itself is quite good fun in a "Carry On" kind of vein but with better dialogue. Still, be warned of the aspect ratio... it is not what amazon tells you it is (1.66:1 / 16.9) and the picture quality (both sharpness and colour) may suffer when being played on a large screen.

Having said that, the movie looks to have been filmed in 4:3 but, in 1973, I seriously doubt that it was projected in that ratio. I would like to view it in a theatrical aspect, not camera negative. This looks very much like a 16mm print that has been transferred to video and I feel it is a little overpriced for what you get.

The dvd plays ALL Regions.

Not Now Darling is a 1973 British comedy film adapted from the play of the same name. The story centres around a luxury fur coat shop in central London. It is notable as the last film to feature appearances by Cicely Courtneidge and Jack Hulbert who had been a leading celebrity couple in the 1930’s and 1940’s.

Made on a modest budget (and it shows) this adaptation of the traditional saucy stage farce stars Leslie Phillips, Joan Sims and Barbara Windsor.

I will say that a good British comedy is a great thing, but sadly this is not one of them. As I've said it's based on a stage show and it has that feel to it and just does not work as a film script. It comes across more as a vehicle for the actress Julie Ege, who really was more of a glamour model than an actress. Sadly the other great British comedy actors in this film cannot save it... Very poor.

but regretfully not as good as live theatre. However, it did make me laugh and brought back very fond memories of the night I went to see it with my late mum. So for me, I was glad I bought it.

Oh what a web we weave...

This is a complicated farce of affairs, infidelity and marriages that needs to be watched after a few drinks to make any sense, otherwise will come across as a non-sensical dream!.

Dated sex and innuendo fun film with quick-witted dialogue that is fast-paced. It's great to see husband and wife Jack Hulbert and Dame Cicely Courtneidge appearing in their last film together and looking marvellous in their 80s!

Also stars Joan Sims and Barbara Windsor.
