Product Description

Brennan Huff, a sporadically employed thirty-nine-year-old who lives with his mother, Nancy. Dale Doback, a terminally unemployed forty-year-old who lives with his father, Robert. When Robert and Nancy marry and move in together, Brennan and Dale are forced to live with each other as step brothers. As their narcissism and downright aggressive laziness threaten to tear the family apart, these two middle-aged, immature, overgrown boys will orchestrate an insane, elaborate plan to bring their parents back together. To pull it off, they must form an unlikely bond that maybe, just maybe, will finally get them out of the house.

From Amazon.co.uk

Crude, juvenile, and proud of it, Step Brothers stars Will Ferrell and John C. Reilly as two 40-year-old men, both living at home and leading the lives of 13-year-old boys, who are thrown together when their single parents (Mary Steenburgen, Parenthood, and Richard Jenkins, Six Feet Under) get married. Brennan (Ferrell) and Dale (Reilly) start out hating each other as only teenage boys can--but things get even worse for their long-suffering parents when they become best friends. Step Brothers gets most of its mileage from very lowbrow humor, but hidden among the farts and masturbation jokes is the suggestion that while these guys may be emotionally arrested, so are Brennan's hotshot business executive brother (Adam Scott, Tell Me You Love Me) and his high-fiving frat-boy pals, just in a way that's condoned because it makes money. Also crucial is that Ferrell and Reilly capture adolescence in all its gruesome glory--the awkward insecurity but also the egomaniacal, arrogant self-centeredness. Mind you, this isn't the American version of The 400 Blows or anything--one of the movie's setpieces features Brennan tea-bagging Dale's drum set (and if you don't know what tea-bagging is... well, you will after seeing this movie). All in all, Step Brothers combines the adolescent humor of producer Judd Apatow (Superbad, Knocked Up) and the comic chemistry of Ferrell and Reilly (who previously costarred in Talladega Nights)--fans of either will find plenty to enjoy. --Bret Fetzer

Format: DVD
The step brothers of the title are Brennan Huff (Ferrell) & Dale Doback (C.Reilly), a pair of 40 something man child losers, who live at home with their long suffering single parents. But things come to ahead one day as Nancy Huff (Steenburgen) meets & falls in love with Dr. Robert Doback (Jenkins), who soon wed. Needing to downsize, they decide to all move into the good Doctors home, where Brennan & Dale have a big falling out initially. The parents put their foots down, and order the pair to get a job & stand on they're own two feet. And as Dale & Brennan gradually realize, they have much in common & are actually soulmates, who have their own ideas about going out in the World.

Overall, Step Brothers is a real oddball silly comedy that shouldn't work, but it does, and with aplomb if you have that certain sense of humor required. It works well on many levels, the amazing chemistry, superb casting throughout & well executed premise etc... spearheaded by strong performances from Will Ferrell & John C.Reilly, who compliment each other perfectly, and share some great scenes that feel like a mixture of scripted & ad-libbed genius. The great support cast of Mary Steenburgen (Back to the Future 3) & Richard Jenkins (The Cabin In The Woods) who are for a better word, the straight gal+guy to the aftermath of Brennan & Dale's shenanigans. Couldn't be more perfectly suited to their roles.

In conclusion, Step Brothers is pretty flawless in our eyes & epitomizes Will Ferrell's style of comedy, and why we adore him. Contains mature themes & strong language. Highly recommended.

Brendan is an immature 39 year old man who still lives with his mother, unable to hold down even the most mundane of jobs he retreats into the child like world of a 12 year old boy. Dale is 40, permanently unemployed, lives with his father and treats his Father's home like a college frat house and his dad as his frat buddy. When Dale and Brendan's parents meet at a medical conference it soon leads to marriage and the two boys are forced to live together as step-brothers. At first the new step-brothers fight like cat and dog but soon build a friendship as they discover they have a lot in common including a love of music, dinosaurs, sleepwalking, and a mutual hatred of Brendan's egotistical and pretentious younger brother Derek.
Once you get past the ridiculous plotline this film is a complete riot. Will Ferrell always excels at playing idiotic half-wits, and in this film John C. Reilly matches him all the way, this is easily the best on-screen paring since Jim Carrey and Jeff Daniels in `Dumb and Dumber' and every bit as funny. There are so many funny scenes and classic throw away lines that you'll want to see it more than once. The line where Dale compares Brendan's singing voice to mixture of Fergie and Jesus was pure genius; and the scene where the boys are forced to go for job interviews was nothing short of hysterical.
This is a gem of a film, easily the best comedy of recent years and one that will have you laughing from the opening credits right up until the end.

My brother nagged me for months to watch this, finally got around to it and I can honestly say I have not laughed as much over a movie for a long long time. The belly laughs are not the obvious moments though, the real laughs come from spotting the subtle moments, like when the brothers first meet and he is sat in the back of his mums car.... and many many more. The obvious slap-stick is not as funny and I expected but this only adds to the experience. The gentle humour at times is mixed with crude in-your-face gags as per WF but it does not really go over the top. The dead pan performance of the "adults" are brilliant and this just had me laughing well after it had finished. Blu ray transfer is amongst the best for these budget "non cinematography arty" movies and HD audio is fabulous, coming into its own in the final scene. Many people simply "don't get" this humour and this film will not alter that. Its NOT mainstream comedy and if you hate WF , you will not like this film. The funniest scene for me was the singing scene in the Range Rover, that was just side splitting...... but there are many more big laughs to be had... RECOMMENDED to WF fans !!

Hello, i brought this dvd after watching the film on Sky and loved it. however, when watching the dvd version i noticed that alot of the funny parts had been cut out. If i had known this i would not have purchased it at all. The parts that were cut-out were not even crude or sexual in any way.... On a whole this is a very funny movie!!

This film is hilarious. If you enjoyed Talladega Nights: The Ballad of Ricky Bobby then you will love this film. It's childish, purile and side splittingly funny. The chemistry between Will Ferrell and John C Reilly is obvious and you only have to watch the extras to realise they love working together. Don't even waste your money getting the standard copy, YOU NEED the extended version. Loads more extras, loads more laughs.
