House on the edge of the park is a very shocking and disturbing film including rapes, gross language and a lot of pissing round. Vipco UK release is cut by 11minutes 42seconds by the BBFC which removed or heavily edited all the assaults by David Hess on the women. It's better buying the US DVD which is uncut and understand how sick these guys are.
Great film but vipco has a problem of releasing a lot of cut films which is very disappointing.

The story..Crooked garage workers Alex (David Hess) and Ricky (Giovanni Lambardo Radice) help fix the car of a rich couple and invite themselves along to their party. It becomes clear that the rich party hosts are just bored and looking for laughs at the expense of the two underclass guests. When the tension is finally broken Alex takes them all hostage and begins to have his own idea of fun with them.
Ruggero Deodato's follow up to the classic "Cannibal Holocaust" is a nasty little horror/thriller. It is, however, a good well shot film and David Hess as Alex seems to revel in playing the bad guy ( think Krug from "Last house on the left"). Most of the film is set in the house so you have a really good claustrophobic feel to proceedings as events spiral out of control. Make no mistake though "House on the edge of the Park" is an incredibly sleazy film and director Ruggero Deodato shows us once again how he can make genuinely full on films like few others of his era. The film contains little actual gore but you get beatings aplenty and cruel moments of humiliation, torture and rape. Special mention has to be made to Riz Ortolani's sleazy score and cheesy disco music that'll have you humming well after the films ended. I also have to say that do not under any circumstances buy the U.K release by Vipco as it's cut by over 11 minutes!
I recommend this to all fans of the genre.

At last, some dodgy acting, dodgy dubbing, a dubious, sleazy plot and some gratuitous violence; and worst of all some seriously bad 70's music in the soundtrack; the dancing at the start of the party scene was especially cringworthy. I think it was made in English but then different voices were dubbed over the actors own ones as they spoke with Italian accents and it's meant to take place in New York. I think the uncut version is still technically banned in the UK; whether this has something to do with the music or its violent content (which compared with more modern films I don't think is that explicit, although what's being done isn't very nice), I'm not sure. Anyway, the baddie gets his comeuppance and the film is worth seeing just for his slow motion scream when he falls into the swimming pool; I guess I'd scream too if I'd just been shot in the balls. Watch it if you want to see a good example of 70's sleeze, terrible hairstyles, dreadful shirts, medallions and people being beat up, raped and cut with a razor. Have to say that I didn't warm to any of the characters in it. There were far too many, "why don't they just do" moments in it too.

I watched this film uncut for the first time recently. Compared to modern standards it is tame and does not warrant the 12 minutes cut by the BBFC. If you like Italian horror from the eighties, you know what to expect. David Hess is fabulous and is reprising his role from Last House On The Left - 3 Disc Ultimate Edition (Uncut) [1972] [DVD]. The rest of the acting is varied but the plot is sound and the ending very surprising. Would recommend for any fan of Video Nasties but not anyone looking for gore.

After fixing a young couples car, two men -Alex & Ricky- are invited to there party, once there however Alex attacks his hosts with a cutthroat razor and holds them captive, whilst also abusing his female hosts.

Ruggerro Deotado's 1980 revenge thriller is an unflinching look in the mind of a psychopath. David Hess plays the unhinged Alex and really does deliver a strong and memorable performance, as does the rest of the relatively small cast. He handles the most shocking (& some would say controversial) scene in the film chillingly, slashing the young Cindy character with the razor whilst she's naked. The film builds it's tension with a lot of skill, from the opening scene of Alex raping & killing a young woman, to him taking the razor with him to the party you're never quite sure what he'll do or could do and that does keep you o the edge of your seat. The final revelation on first viewing is very good and fairly unexpected and the scene that follows is handled and directed very well. There are a few downsides to the film however, apart from the rather slow and easily led Ricky (played well by Giovanni Lombardo Radice) none of the characters are all that likable, although the finale does explain a lot you don't know that in the rest of the film, and you do struggle to empathise given their situation. The Cindy scene is another problem, the fact they got a very young looking actress to play the part makes what happens to her feel very uncomfortable and realistic, it does add to the tension but it is a tough watch. That's arguably the movies biggest issue the sleazy, exploitative feel, although that doesn't make it a bad film it does make it a sometimes uneasy one to get through.

Rejected on its first UK cinema release it later become a video nasty and all subsequent UK releases have been cut, so to see a full uncut version & if you want to watch the film the full strength picture is what you should see, better to get a DVD release from abroad.
