Basically a rehash of 99 Women, but with less attractive cast. Also considerably more torture scenes, involving electrified beds with people strapped to them and seemingly weird genetalia tickling, though id lost interest by this point. Avoid unless you must see EVERYTHING by Jess Franco, as this is very dull. 99 Women is far better Women In Prison film.

There is no barbed wire in "Barbed Wire Dolls". The prison setting is a weed-infested stone fortress with bars.

What you do get is Jess Franco with a budget equivalent to about 42 euros giving us nude women, sexual harassment, bondage, voyeurism, sex, insanity, exhibitionism, torture, lesbianism, sadism, masochism, closeups of ladies' naughty bits, female masturbation (some of it with a cigarette), attempted incest in simulated slow motion, murder, a daring escape, a topless guard who meets an unhappy end, rubbish acting, rape, betrayal, beautiful scenery, and an abrupt non-Hollywood ending.

Extras include interviews and biographies of some of the perpetrators, excellent production stills and a short documentary about the restoration of some of Jess Franco's films. The visuals and sound are indeed as good as new.

Top female billing goes to Lina Romay, but to my taste Martine Stedil is one of the sexiest women ever to walk the face of the Earth. It is a pity her career was so short.

If you see the point of Jess Franco, you will find this film very enjoyable and well worth five stars.
