There`s so much to love about this love-letter of a movie.
Director Cameron Crowe`s day job used to be as a rock writer, and he mines those seminal experiences for this funny, touching, mostly authentic, often exhilarating film.
Reasons to see it:
Kate Hudson, whose close-to-perfect performance (rewarded with a Golden Globe) as classy, sunny, ultimately sad groupie Penny Lane, is a delight. This is an actress whose particular brand of dewy-eyed sweetness, hiding a fine talent, should never be confined to rom-coms, which may well be her dire fate.
The great Frances McDormand as our pint-sized hero`s protective mother. She`s one actress who never lets you down, and this is one of her wittiest, as well as most moving, performances.
Zooey Deschanel as our hero`s rebellious but likeable sister. What a truly superb actress! So natural, surprising, offbeat.
Billy Crudup, one of the most underrated actors in Hollywood, as the guitarist with fictional band Stillwater. He`s completely believable as the babe-magnet rock star who befriends our hero.
`Our hero` is played well by young Patrick Fugit, who hits all the right notes in a none to easy lead role as the rookie rock journo.
Jason Lee is wholly credible as Stillwater`s singer, a good guy who isn`t above spouting hippie platitudes when the mood takes him. Lee manages to look like he`s been on the road for a long time, while still eager for that next gig.
Philip Seymour Hoffman, in an early-ish role, is beyond praise as legendary journo Lester Bangs, offering wry advice to our hero, mostly over the phone with early 70s music playing in the background.

Great extended version, the whole family love this film and we already have the original DVD version and wanted the extended version because the film is so great we never wanted it to finish!! Came in time for Christmas which was a bonus!!

Almost Famous is a Good Narrative / Movie about a young guy who gets to be a Journalist for Rolling Stone Magazine and he goes on the Road with Stillwater. Also The Extended Cut Of Almost Famous- Includes 35 Minutes Of Never Before Seen Footage Audio , I Think it has a Kicking classic Rock Soundtrack.
