Contents: DISC 1 - SWORD OF VENGEANCE (1972, Kenji MISUMI) 84 minutes DISC 2 - BABY CART AT THE RIVER STYX (1972, Kenji MISUMI) 82 minutes DISC 3 - BABY CART TO HADES (1972, Kenji MISUMI) 89 minutes DISC 4 - BABY CART IN PERIL (1972, Buichi SAITO) 81 minutes DISC 5 - BABY CART IN THE LAND OF DEMONS (1973, Kenji MISUMI) 90 minutes DISC 6 - WHITE HEAVEN IN HELL (1974, Yoshiyuki KURODA) 84 minutes DISC 7 - SHOGUN ASSASSIN (1980, Robert Houston) 86 minutes At last... the riveting, bloody, and ultra-stylish Lone Wolf and Cub series, together with the classic Shogun Assassin (all based on the perennially popular manga by Kazuo Koike and Goseki Kojima) available together in one boxset, officially licenced from Toho, fully uncut, and freshly remastered. Filled with memorable set pieces, iconic characters and violent action, this series more than lives up to its reputation as a pinnacle of Japanese exploitation cinema whose musings on the meaning of honour in a lawless world still resonate today. In White Heaven In Hell alone, Ogami Itt kills 150 people onscreen, the highest body count for a single character in a single film in cinema history. In America, the first two Lone Wolf instalments were re-edited into the legendary Shogun Assassin, the film that single-handedly created legions of new fans of Japanese action cinema upon its release. Originally prosecuted as a video nasty in the 1980s, this hugely influential thrill-ride is presented here along with the original Lone Wolf and Cub series, gorgeously remastered in their original aspect ratio. SPECIAL FEATURES: Freshly remastered, anamorphic, original aspect ratio transfers Newly translated optional English subtitles Original Japanese theatrical trailers for each film Liner notes for each film by Japanese film scholar Tom Mes (midnighteye.com)

THIS is the Lone Wolf and Cub boxed set to buy.

High quality dvd collection, beautiful colours, simply superb!

It includes Shogun Assassin as well, as a bonus!

Get this one...this boxed set is the definitive one to get...don't cheap out on cheaper box sets, as you may be dissapointed by picture transfer quality.

Picture quality is very good on this boxset. The best yet, I've heard.

Bought this boxset a few weeks ago. I have now watched all of them except Shogun Assassin. I remember seeing that a few years ago and enjoying it so I thought I would give the series a try. What a great decision. I thoroughly enjoyed every movie. Mass slaughter, hundreds of ninjas, huge eyebrows, beautiful Japanese women - what is there not to like? The central characters of lone wolf and his cub are well drawn and their relationship is touching and strange. The boy hardly says anything but has a very expressive face - he is destined to follow in his father's footsteps if he survives to adulthood. The babycart itself is a 19th Century armoured fighting vehicle which holds many secrets and nasty surprises. Life under the Shogunate was truly bizarre if these films are an accurate representation of the politics, the way of Bushido and social behaviour. Some of the acting is of the asian eye rolling variety but most of it is very good. The female characters are strong and in fact drive the plot forward in many of the episodes. The fight sequences are brilliant, breathtaking and outrageously over the top. Lone Wolf will not be stopped! The sleeve notes for each movie are excellent and give an insight into Japanese society as well as providing background information on the making of the films and character development.

An epic story which is more about the action scenes than anything, but all the characters that come and go an engaging making it all the more poignant if they meet an untimely end.
The production quality isn't anything to write home about but this gives it some extra character, like a bad late night film you stumble across and can't stop watching for it's cheesiness.
The highlight of it all are the amazing action scenes with marathon fights with what feels like hundreds of samurai, to masterful assassins with incredibly unique weapons, to intense silent showdowns. It has it all.
Weather you have a slight interest or a fervent passion for samurai films (in which case you should already own these!), you can't go wrong with Lone Wolf & Cub.

Finally someone took the initiative to remaster, what is in my humble opinion, the finest Samurai movies ever!
If your into, gore, blood splatter, swords and nudity, all delivered with intelligence and artistic flare; you'll love this.
I've waited years for this to be remastered so I can actually see what's going on instead of just black everywhere.
Well worth the money too as the box-set is beautiful and comes with the 80's yankee edited version of the first two films, re-titled 'Shogun Assassin'. Which was heavily sampled by Wu-Tang's main producers, the RZA's debut album, 'Liquid Swords'.

if you enjoy chambara, edo-era japan, bushido, and an indestructable protaganist, whose only goal in life is revenge, and raising his child to become a samurai. then you will love this movie.

my all time fav. martial arts film, very few can even hold a candle to the lone wolf box set.

for beginners, i'd suggest purchasing SHOGUN ASSASSIN, which is film 7 of the set. If you enjoy SHOGUN ASSASSIN, they you will also love the others.

best purchase of my LIFE!

All seven films in the 'Lone Wolf and Cub' Japanese samurai action series. Viewed by many as the pinnacle of Japanese exploitation cinema, the films chronicle the adventures of disgraced Shogun assassin Ogami Itto (Tomisaburo Wakayama) and his son Daigoro (Akihiro Tomikawa), who sell their services as assassins while continuing their bloody quest for revenge against the hit squad who killed Itto's wife. In 'Sword of Vengeance' (1971), executioner Ogami Itto is framed for treason and declared an outlaw. Accompanied only by his young son Daigoro, he sets out on a trail of vengeance against the secret society that murdered his wife and poisoned his reputation. In 'Babycart at the River Styx' (1972), Ogami Itto - aka 'Lone Wolf' - continues his bloody quest through the land he calls Hell. The Yagyu clan are determined to see him dead, and send the deadly female assassins, the Akashi after him. Beyond them, Lone Wolf must defeat the Gods of death in order to win his 500 pieces of gold. In 'Babycart to Hades' (1973), the Lone Wolf provides a rare display of compassion when he rescues a young girl from her pimp. On the road again, the Wolf finds his services in demand, as he and the child Diagoro - the Cub - travel a violent path to Hades. In the fourth film, 'Babycart in Peril' (1972), the Wolf has become separated from his Cub, who has fallen into the hands of Itto's deadly rival. A rescue is effected, but Itto must now carry out his latest assignment; to kill tattooed martial arts mistress Oyuki (Michie Azuma). In 'Babycart in the Land of Demons' (1973), Lone Wolf is hired by the Kuroda clan to protect the destiny of its succession. This duty leads him into a confrontation with the evil Retsudo (Minoru Ohki), as well as forcing him to turn against the very clan he is supposed to be protecting.Read more ›
