The pocket-sized powerhouse
The PowerShot S90 boasts an incredibly slim profile and lightweight body for pocket-sized convenience, yet packs in advanced capabilities that ensure every image is memorable - making it the perfect everyday camera for people who are serious about great photography. Image quality is superb thanks to the new Dual Anti-Noise System and higher ISO speeds, plus an exceptionally bright f/2.0 lens makes portraits and low-light shots come to life. Photography enthusiasts will love the new control ring at the base of the lens barrel, designed for intuitive, pro-style manual control, plus you can shoot in RAW mode for unlimited creative options. Dual Anti-Noise system to deal with any light conditions
Canon's new Dual Anti-Noise System expands the range of shooting and allows you to successfully shoot scenes that were previously difficult, particularly in low light conditions. It combines a High Sensitivity 10.0 Megapixel image sensor, which uses the latest technology to increase the area of each pixel on the sensor by approximately 45% and greatly improves the signal to noise ratio, with Canon's enhanced DIGIC 4 image processing technology for improved noise reduction.
The results are spectacular. Camera shake and subject blurring is reduced in dark scenes and flash effective distance is extended so even background of your shot can be reproduced brightly. In scenes with large differences in contrast the dynamic range is greatly improved and highlight blowout and loss of detail in shadows is reduced - for great looking pictures every time.
Overall the Dual Anti-Noise System offers a maximum noise reduction effect (and increase in quality) equivalent to 2-stops over previous models. The system also makes possible a new low light mode that automatically adjusts the maximum ISO speed from ISO 3200 to ISO 12800 so you can capture spectacular 2.5MP images in an astonishing range of difficult low-light conditions that were impossible to shoot before. This makes it easier than ever to take stunning low-light portraits or retain the ambient light detail with late-night landscapes.

The f/2.0 Lens Advantage
Canon has fitted the PowerShot S90 with a wide aperture f/2.0 wide-angle lens to help photographers take full advantage of the Dual Anti-Noise System. The f/2.0 wide-angle lens allows twice as much light into the camera as an f/2.8 lens, enabling photographers to use faster shutter speeds to reduce blur or achieve a shallower depth of field. This is perfect for creating enticing portraits, by drawing attention to the face and blurring the background with its impressively shallow depth-of-field. It also lets you capture more nuances in low light shooting by using more of the available light. You'll be ready for anything with a lens aperture larger than even many professional sizes.
Sophisticated performance, sensational ease of use
As suits a camera of this calibre, the PowerShot S90 features a wide range of powerful manual and automatic controls that give photographers creative freedom.
The PowerShot S90 includes an intuitive lens Control Ring, which enables users to adjust the settings of various functions by twisting the selector at the base of the lens barrel to the left or right. The Control Ring can be used like a manual zoom offering a closer view of subjects in 28mm, 35mm, 50mm, 85mm and 105mm steps. Additional settings can be assigned, such as ISO (in 1/3 stop increments), shutter, aperture, focus and exposure compensation - giving photographers a satisfyingly tactile experience. The Control Ring also helps enhance user interaction with the camera by offering fast, accurate scrolling through menus, functions and images. In new Nostalgic Mode the Control Ring can also be used to add an aged effect to the shot, from a subtle faded look to full grainy black and white.
Smarter Scene Detection
For more creative control, users can also choose from a variety of Scene Modes (SCN on the Control dial) that enable them to choose the best settings for particular shooting situations - ideal for creative effects or when shooting in difficult lighting.
Photographers can also choose from a range of creative modes including Aperture priority Auto Exposure (AE), Shutter priority AE, Program AE, Manual Control and Custom modes. Choosing and using different camera settings is now even easier thanks to an improved menu navigation system, which includes ‘Hints & Tips' on most settings and features.
The PowerShot S90 allows fine custom adjustment of the camera's white balance settings - enabling compensation of different kinds of tungsten, fluorescent and other light conditions for perfect results every time.

For quick and easy snaps, the PowerShot S90 includes Smart Auto with Scene Detection Technology. This selects the scene type from 22 variables, applying the best settings for optimum output - a great asset to those who love to point-and-shoot without worrying about the technical details. Smart Auto now measures movement of objects or people in a scene, activating Servo AF/AE to ensure that the focus and exposure are locked onto a subject.
Full creative control with RAW + JPEG
The PowerShot S90 allows you to shoot images in RAW mode, without JPEG compression. This gives you clearer images and complete creative control in editing. RAW images are transferred directly to the computer where they can then be edited using image adjustment software or a processing application to adjust your images as you please. The camera can also be set to allow the simultaneous recording of both RAW and JPEG images while shooting.
Large, bright 3.0-inch LCD
To help users capture the perfect shot, the PowerShot S90 includes a large 3.0" LCD display, which features Canon's PureColor II LCD technology. It enables users to frame and review images easily thanks to an exceptionally wide viewing angle, 461k dot resolution and great colour rendition.
HDMI output for viewing still images on an HDTV
With the advanced PowerShot S90, you can capture breathtaking, high-resolution still images and impressive standard definition movies with ease. The camera also makes it simple to enjoy and share your stills and video movies with a mini-HDMI connector for direct connection to a high-definition monitor or HDTV, so every color and nuance can be appreciated like you intended them to be.

Rich razor-sharp images - every time
The lens is the most important part of any imaging device and all Canon cameras incorporate lenses designed and manufactured by Canon to the most exacting standards - lenses based on over 60 years of experience for outstanding results.
The outstanding quality of Canon lenses is underscored by their use in most broadcast applications. For example programmes like Coronation Street, Casualty and X Factor and nature documentaries like The Blue Planet and Life, as well as the majority of outside broadcasts in the UK, are all recorded using Canon's state-of-the-art broadcast lenses.
Canon's market-leading Optical Image Stabiliser is a lens-shift system that automatically detects and corrects camera shake, whilst ensuring outstanding image quality. It can monitor for movement over 4,000 times per second, allowing handheld shooting at longer focal lengths and in lower light conditions without blur and giving you steady, crisp, brilliant images you'll be proud to shoot and share. Pioneered by Canon for their EOS Digital SLR cameras in 1987 it is the fastest in-lens image stabiliser available on the market (twice as fast as the nearest competitor) and ensures the PowerShot range has a top quality pedigree.
The 3.8x wide-angle optical zoom lens on the PowerShot S90 lets you capture more image in every shot and adds more depth to your photography. Meanwhile a resolution of 10.0 Megapixels allows you to capture every scene in rich detail, ensuring oversize prints - even of cropped pictures - retain high image quality.

Fast, intelligent processing even in tricky lighting conditions
Canon's most advanced image processor, DIGIC 4, lies at the heart of every Canon digital camera and delivers exceptional processing speeds, responsive operation and advanced noise reduction. It also makes possible intelligent evolved Face and Object Detection Technology, which finds and tracks moving subjects until you're ready to shoot, adjusting the camera settings for optimal results. Faces will have natural-looking skin tones and additional Blink Detection lets you avoid the disappointment of mis-timed people shots by displaying a 3 second warning if a person in the frame has their eyes closed. Red-Eye Correction is also an integral feature to ensure flawless photos.
A Face Detection Self-Timer also makes group photos and self-portraits easy. Once the shot has been set up, the camera records the number of faces detected in the frame when the shutter is depressed and the self timer started - it then waits for an extra face to get in the frame and adjusts focus and exposure before it takes the picture.
DIGIC 4 also makes possible Canon's enhanced i-Contrast feature, which offers improved contrast and greater detail in tricky lighting conditions. Available in either shooting or playback mode, i-Contrast analyses the exposure, dynamic range and other image characteristics of a shot then adaptively increases the gain in dark areas to produce heightened detail in those regions. It does this without blowing out correctly exposed parts of the image, while the noise reduction function of DIGIC 4 ensures minimal noise in the adjusted areas.
