I was a bit apprehensive about replacing my antiquated and very old straightforward phone with a Blackberry that seems to do everything but as I had a good contract deal I thought it was worth a go. I have spent several days working out how it works and reading up on it which I think is well worth doing if you want to take advantage of all the features this phone has to offer. Having done the homework I can honestly say that I find it very straightforward to use (although initially I couldn't make head or tail of it). I have set up e mail and Wi Fi with no problem at all (the phone gave the necessary prompts and it worked first time). Setting up instant messenger was a little harder as I tried to do it by connecting and downloading the instant messenger software via the PC without realising I needed to install the software and drivers for the blackberry on the PC first. Having done that I still couldn't install Windows live (because both computers in my house "said no" but I managed to install the windows live software with no problem at all by following the prompts on the phone and downloading via the browser on the blackberry........instant messenger on Windows live is working a treat on the Blackberry now. The internet connection is very good using the Wi Fi connection at home and the GPRS outside is slower but adequate. I find it a little difficult to read the web pages though as the screen is small and although you can zoom in it isn't as good as using a PC.....but OK if you have no other option. The biggest disappointment with this phone is the quality of the camera.Read more ›

i took delivery of this bb a couple of days ago, and i have to say I'm quite impressed, having owned both a pearl and bold 9000 before i pretty much knew what to expect. However i was quite surprised with the build quality an overall design which i would go as far to say as being excellent. the new track pad works well and is far better than the tracker ball, setting up the device was easy, the software included allows you to port all your emails, calenders & contacts from a previous blackberry, the software now works with macs and will sync all your itune playlists and ical events. The phone feels comfortable and light in the hand and reminds me of the palm treo 680. Having read previous reviews slating the camera and screen i have to say i think there both pretty adequate, yes its no 12 mega pixel multimedia phone but people buy blackberrys for the there faultless email delivery and now excellent social media apps. All in all if you need email, a browser, social media and occasional multimedia on the go this is a excellent choice, and i personally have no regrets purchasing this phone. well done blackberry in bringing this budget phone to the masses.

Having wanted a Blackberry for a long time now I was so pleased that I have been able to find a handset only deal for a good price! A few of my friends have this phone and so I had been able to use it before I took the plunge and bought it, this is a real bonus because you know exactly what your getting. For me (being by no means techy) this phone is the best I've had in a long time (usually I get ordinary phones).
Pro's:
There are a lot of applications you can get on the blackberry site
The camera is reasonable quality,
The qwerty keyboard for fast and easy typing, email and internet.
If you are thinking of getting smartphone and can't decide over an iphone or blackberry, I would choose a blackberry because iphones are so temperamental and are always breaking, I'm not saying chuck this phone about but it is a sturdy phone.
However, the cons:
The charger can have a loose connection for the first few charges, I don't know why but now mine seems to have sorted itself out. And the battery life is terrible it needs charging every two days for me (sending a few texts a day and general use of the phone) Another plus for this is that Amazon delivered the parcel very swiftly.
Overall it's really simple and straight forward to use and I would definitely recommend getting this!

To those asking Sim-Free means that the phone does NOT come with a Sim Card included and you must provide your own. It also means that you can insert almost ANY Sim Card of your choice - in other words the phone is unlocked. So you can choose whichever network you wish.

I LOVE my new BlackBerry and would encourage people to join BB Mania :-) ok, so the camera's not so hot, but is that really what you'd get a BB for anyway? Messaging (SMS, E-mail, BB Messanger etc.)is super; the speaker phone is better than any phone I've had before; quite a good selection of apps to choose from; internet isn't bad, specially when there's WiFi; and the calender and sync-ing are excellent.
All in all....thumbs up.

My first 'smartphone', and I am glad I chose this one - it oozes quality at a reasonable price.
Yes, it is SIM-free, but make sure your provider supports the Blackberry BIS - mine didn't, so I had to change from Tesco to O2 in order to access full e-mail and browser functionality. Once your e-mail(s) is/are set up, you can delete messages on the handset alone, or on any of your e-mail accounts as well
The screen is very good and clear, sound quality is excellent, and the menus are really easy to use once you get used to them - it is different from previous phones I have used, and I think I prefer it that way.
Text messages appear in an e-mail-like string, rather than as separate messages in an inbox and outbox, which takes some getting used to, but again I think I prefer it.
The camera is basic, but perfectly adequate for outdoor shots - if you want superb resolution, flash etc, then buy a camera!
I worried about typing on such small keys with fat fingers like mine, but the keys are raised and I find I make very few mistakes and can enter data quite quickly.
The supplied software CD allowed me to transfer all my contacts and diary entries from a Palm Tungsten onto the Blackberry quickly and without any problems at all.
I bought a larger capacity micro SD card (8Gb - the phone was supplied with a 2Gb card) to ensure more than adequate memory, and I would advise investing in a silicon skin protective cover - this is a snug enough fit that the phone can still be used with the Blackberry pouch case.
