Product Description

From Amazon.co.uk

Angelina Jolie is the first and best reason to watch Lara Croft Tomb Raider. She gives an extraordinarily committed, physically demanding performance, taking on the mantle of the video game heroine with real conviction and energy, and becoming the embodiment of every teenage boy's wish-fulfilment fantasy female. She's tough, sexy and tomboyish all at the same time, and even has a plummy English accent to give her a touch of class. It's a shame that the movie doesn't live up to Jolie's high standards. A soulless juggernaut of computer-generated effects and one-dimensional characters, the film falls into the same trap that has ensnared every other video game adaptation before it. The convoluted plot--which is concerned with a mysterious planetary alignment, a quasi-Masonic secret society known as the Illuminati and a mcguffin called the Triangle of Light--takes itself far too seriously. Oddly for a film with such a pedigree, the only humour is to be found in the endless repetition by Jolie of the word "bugger", which presumably is hilariously funny to American audiences. Director Simon West, an alumnus of the Brookheimer-Simpson school of filmmaking, choreographs the action sequences spectacularly enough, and their impact is boosted hugely by Jolie's ability to perform almost all the stunt work herself. But the end result is an empty experience that leaves the viewer with the feeling that this much-loved character and this dedicated actress could have been better served.

On the DVD: Eschewing the need for a second disc, this DVD still has plenty of additional material to keep fans happy. There's no single making-of documentary, but rather a series of shorter pieces on specific aspects of the production--the original game, the transition to the big screen, the special effects, the stunt work and the rigorous training endured by Jolie (apparently she got so good she could do the stunts better than any of the stunt doubles). There's also U2's "Elevation" video, some deleted scenes, DVD-ROM features and a chatty commentary from director Simon West. The widescreen picture and thumping surround soundtrack are impressive. --Mark Walker --This text refers to the DVD edition.

Time flies. Time...really...does...fly. It seems like only yesterday that Lara Croft Tomb Raider hit the cinemas. But it was actually back in 2001; and with 2011 being the 10th anniversary of its release, and with me being a Tomb Raider fan, I thought it would be a good time to take a look at this movie and give you my opinions. A lot of film critics blasted Tomb Raider, saying that it was a downright terrible movie. But I personally thought it was pretty good.

Lara Croft (played by Angelina Jolie) discovers a clock hidden under the stairs of her mansion home. Inside the clock is a weird-looking key which is needed to unlock the hiding places of two pieces of an artifact known as the "Triangle of Light," which has the power to control space and time.

Lara soon discovers that a group called the Illuminati, led by Manfred Powell (Iain Glen), are also looking for the Triangle and are planning to use it for evil deeds. Lara finds herself in a race against both the Illuminati and time itself, as she must find both pieces of the artifact and destroy them before the alignment of the nine planets (it was nine at the time of the movie's release), an event that only takes place once every 5000 years.

Angelina Jolie is perfect in the role of Lara. She's stunningly beautiful, looks right at home in the action scenes, and the upper-class British accent is very convincing. Some people were unhappy about an American actress being cast as a British video games heroine, but then again Britain didn't really have any actresses who were suited to the role of an action woman at the time. As great an actress as someone like Kate Winslet is, would she have made a convincing Lara, running and jumping through tombs, shooting enemies, and looking calm and collected at least 90% of the time?

Although the picture is an improvement on the DVD (though not brilliant by Blu-ray standards), the sound is not.

Yes, you get higher bitrate DTS (as well as a Dolby Digital option), but you get neither the Dolby True HD nor DTS-ES mixes the Blu-ray packaging promises.

Absolutly brilliant. If you don't like strong chicks then this isn't a movie you want to see. Making a brilliant transfer from the silver console to the silver screen Tomb Raider just keeps on giving. Angelina Jolie is absolutly perfect as Lara Croft. This is for any Tomb Raider fan or even if you're not. Action Packed and totally brill! Move over Sigourney Weaver, we have a new action chick in town!

This DVD is one of the best i have encountered. To start the film is brilliant, and 'Angie' takes passion in the role and delivers it well. Enough, I hear you say, i have heard the reviws of the film, now to the DVD!
The menu system is innovative, if it gets a little annoying after a while. There is hours of extra features and documentartys which seem longer than the film! Some of the material is duplicated but it wont matter. This is an A* effort from the DVD procducers. A definate must have!

Angelina Jolie in a skin tight catsuit was my main motivation when i bought this film. The action is frequent and well made but the story was a little bit weak. The acting is good (i have to say that for Angelina's sake) and the budget was obviously high.

Worth a watch but there are better film out there in this genre.

Despite the many reviews of the film saying it was not worth watching, I really enjoyed it. It's in the vein of a James Bond Movie, ie, "leave your brain at the door, and sit back and enjoy".
Plenty of action, explosions, etc, which is what this type of film is all about. I recommend it if you like 'far-fetched' action movies!

I, like other tomb raider fans absolutely enjoyed this film. It gave some insight into lara's personal life by allowing viewers to understand her relationship with her father.
However, i did feel that the film was too much focused on her family ties rather than the adventure. The adventure was also a bit too lame for someone like Lara Croft, and i believe they could have squeezed in lots more action scenes if they wanted to make this a truely brilliant film.
I also believe that the critics have made this film turn out to be worse whereas it really isn't. That may be because this movie is really intended for those who actually know Lara croft through the games.
I would definately recommend this film to all Lara croft fans, and those who like an action packed movies. I mean, how often do we see a female adventurer as smart and intelligent as LARA CROFT????

As the title says. I love this movie and I think its great. I bought it on blu-ray expecting HD quality. It looks like its just been burned on a blu-ray disc at DVD quality. Just buy the dvd and save the money. Still great movie though.
