Product Description

This 2-Disc Collection DVD is a Euro-sleaze collector's dream because it contains both the 102 minute official censored release in both English and the original Italian as well as the full, uncut, uncensored original 125 minute version which is complete with the notorious extra 20 minutes of hardcore footage which has given this film such notoriety. That's not to say that the censored release is tame, it's still chock full of nudity, violence and depravity as you'd expect from a film about the maddest of Roman emperors, directed by the ultimate 70-80's sleaze-king, Joe D'Amato (Emmanuelle In America, Erotic Nights Of The Living Dead). It stars David Brandon (billed as David Cain) as caligula and Joe D'Amato regular, Laura Gemser (Black Emanuelle, Emanuelle In America, The Bushido Blade)) as a young woman seeking revenge on Caligula for the death of her friend. With some of the most violent and sickening scenes of death and depravity interspersed with explicit sex (in the full version) this is definitely not a film for the easily offended or squeamish. David Brandon is actually very good as Caligula and Laura Gemser is as always stunningly beautiful but many of the other actors were probably not chosen for the acting talents although do look out for famed Italian horror director Michele Soavi in an impressive early supporting role. The extras on the disc include a trailer & photo gallery and there is also a 16-page booklet included as well.

a different version of caligula than what is normally related on film and in books. Have to watch to see what i mean. it Italian cimena of the 'giallo' style with hardcore bits thrown in. Brandon is very good.

I'm sorry but I have to disagree with the other review, this film firstly said it had English sound track, and it did but only about a third of the dialog ( the main bits) are in English, the rest is still in Italian and so are the sub titles. The film, whilst it has a good thread of a storyline, is spoilt by the below average acting and the pornographic content that is put in for the sake of it. There are some stunning lady's in this but it is not well done and I fell asleep part way through and had to rewind back to see what I had missed. If you want nudity for the sake of nudity, well ok then but there are better films.
