5.0 out of 5 stars Get Some In is the best National Service programme/film ever!, 28 Oct 2009
By Mr. Alan H. Dale (Norwich, United Kingdom) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
As a Royal Corps of Signals (air support) National Service NCO, often detached to fighter-bomber stations of the RAF in West Germany, I found Get Some In far superior to any other film or programme on the topic. Fascinating in many ways, not least in giving a clearer idea of why the Army is better served by proper, detachment-commanding junior NCOs -- lance corporals -- instead of the RAF's leading aircraftmen (LACs), as scathingly dismissed by Corporal 'Punishment' (Tony Selby) in the TV series!

Something else odd, I found, was how the NS draft in Get Some In were all assigned to medical duties, whereas in 1950 the Royal Signals were meticulous in assessing individually how exacting our training could be, e.g. as morse wireless operators at the top, general duties for some, or transference to the Pioneer Corps. (Not fair on the latter, essential corps, I have later realised!)

5.0 out of 5 stars You `oribble little airmen !!, 10 Oct 2009
By Mr. J. Dodd "Icky Dodd" (Tamworth, UK) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
Get Some In ! What a great series this was when originally shown on TV and I love it ! This, the 4th series, still shows the "recruits" being hounded by their buffoon "Instructor", Cpl Marsh, who never fails to make himself look the idiot after his continuous attempts to belittle his charges, while they win the day, each and every time.
Although it`s set in the 1950`s, a lot of the National Service RAF`s training methods, and certainly the humour, are uncannily similar to today`s modern RAF with regards to the young lads trying to get the job done without drawing the wrath of their corporal, while becoming a close-knit team at the same time.
Yes, a great series and highly reccomended to anyone interested in the funnier side of service life ( Trying to get anything from stores; training manouveres and general barrack life ). You`ll love it so get buying, you `orrible little airmen !!

5.0 out of 5 stars GET SOME IN SERIES 4 REVIEW, 7 Sep 2009
By Mr. S. J. Matthews (London,UK) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
We have the previous three series of Get Some In, and this one is as good as the others. A strange series in a way, as it was broadcast in the Seventies, but by then the subject matter, National Service, was a thing of the past. I would think it was a series done on a tight budget, as there are no lavish sets, but relies on good scripts and acting, which it is not short of. The main character, Corporal Marsh, has absolutely no redeeming features, which is fairly unusual in comedy these days, although modern stuff is generally harder hitting. Some interesting faces crop up from time to time to add spice. Highly recommended as a complete series.

5.0 out of 5 stars This has aged well! Classic 70's humour.
I have very vague memories of this appearing on TV in the 1970's.

Previous reviews I've seen compare this to Dad's Army. WRONG!!! Read more
