Product Description

Back to the Woods: James Woods returns to seek revenge against Peter. James Woods finds Peter's wallet, which he lost at a Barry Manilow concert, and proceeds to steal Peter's identity, and his family. Peter decides to ruin James' career and image.

Play it Again Brian: Peter and Lois' marriage hits a snag… Brian wins the New England Rising Writer's award, so the three of them head to Martha's Vineyard to celebrate. Peter's drinking habits take over and he spirals out of control, as does Brian's self restraint, as he soon professes his love for Lois.

The Former Life of Brian: Brian searches for a former flame, Tracy and discovers that he is the father to her son, Dylan. Tracy decides that Brian should raise the boy, and she drops him off at the Griffin's house. When Dylan runs wild in the house, Brian's attitude towards parenting doesn't settle too well with Lois and Peter.

Long John Peter: When Peter gets a pet parrot, he begins acting like a pirate. Peter accidentally kills the bird after raising hell through all of Quahog. Meanwhile, when Brian is visiting the vet, Chris falls in love with the intern, Anna.

Baby Not On Board: When Peter wins free gas for a year, Brian suggests a road trip to the Grand Canyon. After careful planning and packing, they depart, only to leave Stewie behind. Hilarity ensues as they race back to Quahog. Home Alone, Family Guy-style!

I Dream of Jesus: When Peter becomes completely obsessed with "Surfin' Bird", a 1963 hit song from the Trashmen, Brian and Stewie are determined to destroy every last copy of it. When Peter goes searching every record store in Quahog for it, he runs into Jesus, who decides to make his second coming.

Love Blactually: Brian meets the girl of his dreams, Carolyn. However, Cleveland moves right in and sweeps Carolyn off her feet. Desperate to win her back, Brian must do anything he can, even if it means involving Cleveland's ex-wife, Loretta.

Road to Germany: Mort Goldman accidentally steps into a time machine and winds up in 1939 Poland in the middle of the Nazi invasion. Brian and Stewie follow him to Nazi Germany in an attempt to save him and bring him back to the present safely.

The Man With the Two Brains: Realizing that Brian may be getting old, Peter gets a newer, happier dog who the Griffins love, prompting Brian to leave. But things go awry when the "new Brian" crosses the line and humps Stewie's favorite toy.

Tales of a Third Grade Nothing: Peter is forced to go back to the third grade to try and qualify for a promotion at work. Meanwhile, Brian opens a bar with Frank Sinatra Jr, where they employ Stewie to make it a hotspot.

Ocean’s Three and a Half: Peter decides to induce his friend Joe Swanson's wife Bonnie into labour so that Joe will be able to spend more time with him. Features the famous Griffin vs Bale clip.

Family Gay: Peter is injected with the gay gene as part of a scientific experiment to determine whether or not homosexuality is a learned trait or something that people are born with. He ends up in a gay relationship and winds up in a "straight camp".

The Juice is Loose: Peter comes across a 1989 raffle ticket he had forgotten to cash in, winning him a chance to play golf with OJ Simpson. After trying to get a murder confession from him, Peter befriends OJ and takes him home to meet the family.

Synopsis

The adventures of the Griffin family continues with the story of bumbling, well-intentioned father Peter; his sweet but oblivious wife Lois; and their teenagers, dim-witted Chris and awkward Meg. The most recognisable characters, however, remain the family's masterminds: evil genius baby Stewie, determined to achieve complete world domination at the age of one, and Brian, an erudite martini-swilling dog, the family's lone voice of reason. Includes all the episodes from the eighth series.

Family Guy. In its 8th season, but still the greatest show on TV. Although I don't think the writers will ever truly reach the heights which Seasons 2 and 3 were at, the jokes, gags and incidents are, in places, side-splitting. For Family Guy fans, or for those just simply interested in a hilarious and witty Animation, then every season is a must buy. Very few episodes dissapoint throughout the entire show, and thankfully, Season 8 is no exception.

There is still confusion which episodes are on which DVD's, so I will clear up what is what on the Season 8 DVD:

1. Back to the Woods (9/10)

James Woods returns to Quahog to seek revenge against Peter by stealing his identity and becoming Peter Griffin. Though Peter is left with nothing, he counters against his treacherous former friend by ruining the actor's career and public image.

(Peter, Joe, Cleveland and Quagmire have just finished slating Barry Manilow.) Few moments of silence...Joe: "I love Barry Manilow."

2. Play it Again Brian (8.5/10)

Feeling their marriage has hit a snag, Peter and Lois take Brian's offer to go with him for a relaxing vacation at Martha's Vineyard. However, as Peter gets drunk, Brian loses his self-restraint and professes his love for Lois. Peter and Brian must now test their friendship over the woman of their dreams.

(Lois asks Peter if he is ready to go out. Peter then appears in fishing clothing and equipment.) Peter: "Ohhhh...Right."

3. The Former Life of Brian (9.5/10)

Brian discovers that he is the illegitimate father of an old flame's unruly son, Dylan, who is dropped off at the Griffins' house so Brian can raise him.

I am a long-time Family Guy devotee, I own all the series on official DVDs and have watched them many, many times. I pretty much can't go to sleep without hearing the theme tune on BBC3!

This series continues in the same vein as all the others, with the same solid animation style, close-to-the-bone humour and random flashbacks. I would say the writing isn't as strong as in series 4 and 5, but there have always been a few dud episodes in every series so this probably isn't anything unusual. There also seems to be a lot more swearing in this series too, though there is still considerably less than in other adult shows like True Blood, The Sopranos, Misfits etc. That really is something to remember - FAMILY GUY IS NOT FOR KIDS!

Really, there's no better accolade that I can give than to say if you are a fan, buy it!

Family Guy is a great series created by Seth McFarlane - the guy behind American Dad, and looks at the world of the Griffins - Peter, the crazy father who's always up to something silly; Lois, the mother - usually the calm collected one; Meg, always picked on; Brian, the family dog who drinks and is very funny; Chris, the family doofus and finally Stewie - the talking baby, and my favourite character. Peter hangs out with Joe, a macho cop, Quagmire a womaniser, and Cleveland who's really funny and a stereotype of an Afro-American of the 70s.

Some of the best episodes include the one where Stewie helps Frank Sinatra Jr turn his fortune around with a club; the one where Peter meets Jesus; the one where Quagmire, Joe and Peter do Jackass style stunts, and the one where Mort ends up transporting himself to 1940's Poland.

Even though everyone hates the episode, the one with Surfing Bird is a great episode, especially the parody with Stewie and Brian doing a scene from Office Space. Some people say it's not Seth's best moment, but it's memorable like the chicken fight in series 6 (US not UK) and Brian being ribbed about his book by Stewie ("has it got a beginning, and end and a narrative?"

One thing that did disappoint me though is where is the episode where Peter and his friends go on an adventure along a train track to find a dead body? The second half saw Brian as a writer who nearly gets killed by Stewie an obsessed fan (apparently the episode is called Three Kings) - maybe Stephen King didn't allow it? Another episode missing is Peter's Progress. I find this rather awful that they've forgotten these episodes as they were great too.

I'm tired of people saying that Family Guy is "not as good as it was in Seasons 1, 2 and 3". I've got all the DVDs and let me just say, I think Season 1 and 2 are pretty boring. Sure there are 2 or 3 good episodes but why Family Guy was cancelled in the first place is pretty obvious.
When Family Guy reached Season 3 I truly believe it only went up and UP AND UP! Now Season 8 is one of my all-time favourites.
I mean, come on!! Quagmire and Peter dancing to "The Safety Dance"!! Stewie making a music video!! Brian being replaced by a new dog!! Peter's memorable addiciton phase to "Surfin' Bird" which has now become so iconic of Family Guy! And I have to be honest: The retarded horse episode was one of the funniest I have ever seen! I was crying with laughter!

These are hilarious episodes not to be missed! In my view you can't be a true Family Guy fan if you just like Season 1-2. As I always say with Family Guy, you have to be thick-skinned with its humour and accept that it's changing with the times.

People have to stop moaning that Family Guy is just not good anymore! To you, maybe. To me, they're evolving and always appealing to various audiences' tastes!
I recently watched Season 12 ("Screams of Silence, Lottery Fever, etc). Now THIS is when I began to think the team are starting to run out of ideas. Nevertheless Family Guy ALWAYS cheers me up. I know they'll pick themselves up again. They're already doing it with Season 13.

This is a genuinely brilliant season of Family Guy. If I was forced to keep only 2, this would definitely be one of them!
