This 2CD release on the Virgin label competes with an ever increasing catalogue of similarly titled collections of relaxing classical music. Its main rivals are those older compilations, some of which are bigger 4CD sets, which have subsequently found their way to the bargain price shelf. Release date being largely irrelevant of course for these are orchestral classics which won't become outdated with the next fashion change.

What makes this collection worthy of recommendation is the blending of old and new, from 17th century Bach, Handel and Vivaldi to 20th century living `classical' composers Karl Jenkins, Michael Nyman and Ennio Morricone, making it a mostly familiar set with a few lesser-heard songs to keep it fresh.

A good chillout experience will be guaranteed, but there are a lot of other similar products to be explored which succeed at lower cost.

I love this CD collection. Every time I listen to it, I feel relaxed. Often I fall asleep. This cannot be a bad this in this mad, fast world.

Some of the music I hadn't heard before, much of it I had and hadn't realised how much I loved the tracks.

The Schindler's List track is easily my favourite but there are countless others I can just sit and purr to. "Spiegel im spiegel" and "Flower Duet from Lakne" are wonderful - but so many more.

I can't fault it... except MORE PLEASE!

I purchased this a few weeks ago and only finally got round to hearing all of it yesterday.There are 37 tracks in all making this superb value, and even more so as all tracks are a high standard. The only gripe I would have is that some of the tracks in my opinion, do not fit into the "chillout" category. They have sudden "loud" parts which might startle you out of your relaxation! And also 1 or 2 of the vocal tracks dont fit in, but are excellent tracks in their own right. I will probably end up burning a CD of about 20 tracks that I can totally unwind to! Or create a playlist and play them on the laptop!

However overall I still give it 5* as there are such wonderful moments on this album. Some of my favourites are Spiegel im Spiegal; the theme to Cinema Paradiso; and a couple of tracks of Carl Jenkin music...but there are many more. At this price its a steal....buy it!
