An extremely delighted long time all-era Sabbath fan, 27 April 2009
Back in the late nineties after a short lived reunion tour with Ozzy which as far as im aware spawned only a live album and an exhaustive supply of fresh compilations, Black Sabbath were on a collision course with the bottom of the barrel, which as a result might well have spelled the end for them.
Luckily what turned out, as is currently Heaven and Hell; Is a rebranded Sabbath, a fresh start, and a shake-off with all that controversy that plagued them through the Martin years. with a 3rd dio reunion and a live concert "Live at Radio city hall" in 2007 which was umbelievable! they continued on, and today after picking up my copy at 9.00, and listening to it all day i have come to the conclusion that we already may have a Metal album of the year on our hands and it's still only April.
Heaven and Hell, "Devil you know" is Sabbath through and through, an absolutely scorcher of an album, which breezes past pretty much everything they had done since Mob Rules right the way back in 1982, complete with the usual trademark Sabbath cymbal crashes, pummeling riffs and thuddering Bass it is you may note a very heavy album (even discounting the high volume recording technics and distortion so commonly used these days) and so often blamed on poor sound quality. No such problem here it sounds awesome.
The tracks are all excellent with no obvious weak numbers, which is as we have come to expect. Obviously everyone has their favourites, but mine are "Bible black" "Double the pain" and "Eating the cannibals" however only my small margins as all the songs are of such a high standard as it is a combined effort, the listener is unlikely to be reaching for the skip button.
The album structure is a little bit of everything from previous Dio fronted albums but as Iommi described in a recent interview, there is definately more "Dehumanizer" driving these songs but Mob rules and Heaven and Hell (ALBUM) is certainly there, However those fans among us expecting TYR or Born again stuff hidden away here will sadly be disapointed, although i hardly believe anyone would be expecting that stuff especially over the drama of Dio's return.
To conclude "Devil you know" hits the spot perfectly for me, it has all the right ingredients of past Dio Sabbath, all brought bang up-to-date. An eccentric mix of heavy riffing, Excellent semi epics reminicent of "sign of the southern cross" and feels like the whole band is in top form with a fresh and modern feel in the fantastic production job.
I know this is very early to say after only a handful of listens, after all time does have a habbit of revealing things about an album only years after it's release, this may well be a classic in the making, and in my opinion this is absolutely up to standard with their very best and for that reason alone i can't see why it would'nt make it.
An excellent and terrific album, easily earned 5stars.

Roll back the years, 26 Aug 2009
Black Sabbath in all but name. A fantastic return to form for these guys, with aspecial mention for Ol' Leather Lungs, Ronnie James Dio! What a gutsy, pounding, envigourating, old-style piece of metal!! It's a thrilling listen, & any fans of old Sabbath will not be disappointed. I'm not going to pick out individual tracks simply because there isn't a weak song here. Just stick it in your CD player & get head-banging!!!!!

The Black Sabbath album for years, 13 Jul 2009
The Devil You Know is the finest metal album I've heard in 2009 so far. A Black Sabbath album in all but name - it's the finest work work from Iommi and Dio in years.
All the songs have a real sense of drama, with each musician having room to breath and Dio adding great emotion to the lyrics.
The standout track for me is Bible Black, one of the finest metal songs I've ever heard. The Poe-like tale of black magic and danger is superb in narrative terms - plus the epic riffs and vocal delivery really sell it.
