DVD Description

Two no-hopers. One cursed village. A bus full of female students and an army of salacious lesbian vampires - it's going to be one hell of a night!

Synopsis

One instance where the title says it all, LESBIAN VAMPIRE KILLERS finds screenwriters Stewart Williams and Paul Hupfield and director Phil Claydon plunging headfirst into guilty pleasure territory with an unrestrained, sex-laden horror comedy. The picture stars Mathew Horne and James Corden of GAVIN AND STACEY fame as (respectively) Jimmy and Fletch, two buddies who wind up the unlikely saviours of their sleepy welsh village when it is discovered that an ancient Sapphic vampire curse has turned many of the local women into blood-thirsty vampires! MyAnna Buring, Silvia Colloca, Vera Filatova and Paul McGann (ALIEN 3, WITHNAIL AND I) co-star.

4.0 out of 5 stars A fun parody, 10 Jul 2009
By KM (England) - See all my reviews
(TOP 100 REVIEWER)
As a fan of GAVIN & STACEY but thinking that the HORNE & CORDEN sketch show was pretty pants, I watched this with mixed expectations, fortunately I found this film to be absolutely hilarious! Whatever you do, when watching this film do not for a second take this film seriously as it is intentionally ridiculous, being a parody of British horrors (especially the Hammer films from the 60s and 70s) where the storylines are so farfetched and beautiful women get naked for the sake of it. The comedy in regard of dialogue is classic - it had me in stitches (especially from Corden, who is by far a better actor and comedian than Horne) - if you liked Nick Frost's style of humour in SHAUN OF THE DEAD, then you'll love this too. This is definitely a film aimed more for a male audience but has enough laughs there to please most people I reckon. If you're a fan of British horror and comedies, I recommend this but watch this with an open mind and with a few beers and I guarantee you will enjoy it. Worth a rent at least!

1.0 out of 5 stars Wants staking & beheading at the earliest opportunity ., 29 Aug 2009
By russell clarke "stipesdoppleganger" (halifax, west yorks) - See all my reviews
(TOP 50 REVIEWER)
What sort of sums up just how terrible Lesbian Vampire Killers is , is the fact that writers Stewart Williams and Paul Hupfield were challenged to think of the dumbest and yet most commercial title possible for a film and Lesbian Vampire Killers was the answer. This says a lot for their paucity of imagination They then went away and wrote the script. This says even more for their paucity of imagination .It is truly execrable.
Originally they were going to play the lead roles of Jimmy ( Matthew Horne) and Fletch ( James Corden ) two lads who are so desperate to escape the mundanity of their lives they throw a dart at a map and head off to the location it hit- a small village. But the village is cursed .On their 18th birthday ,every girl in the village turns into a lesbian vampire. Frankly it's a pity the writers didn't take on the roles because there is a good chance they would have been funnier than the two leads who are in severe danger of becoming the Hale & Pace of this generation. Not clever and most definitely not funny.
The humour level hit's the basement and then keeps on digging deeper. There are few actual jokes and the laughs ,such as they are are derived from swearing ( which can be funny -think Malcolm Tucker in The Thick Of It : Complete BBC Series 1 [2005] [DVD] ) pulling faces ( think Steve Coogan in just about anything ) and puerile playground humour which my 13 year old son would dismiss as not sophisticated enough. This is a lad who wets himself watching Total Wipe-out, though come to think of it so do I on occasion.
There is also a distasteful undertone of misogyny -two lads wreaking their revenge on the gender who have belittled and spurned them by slaying a lot of buxom blood suckers in numerous unpleasant ways. The women are all portrayed as sexually voracious , scheming , calculating bee-aitches of the highest order. There is a lot of heaving cleavage. This is one of the few good things about the film speaking from a male perspective but I'd rather a witty script and some playful intelligent subverting of the horror genre.
Speaking of which Lesbian Vampire Killers is meant as a funny affectionate homage to the Hammer films but cannot imagine anyone involved with Hammer would be especially happy with this blundering effort. Mentioning Steve Coogan as I did earlier in the review reminded that he did an episode called "Lesbian Vampire Lovers Of Lust" from his series Doctor Terrible's House Of Horrible - Series 1 [DVD] [2001]. That wasn't great but it was a comedy masterpiece compared to this drivel. It's a superior comedy title too , putting Williams & Hupfields effort into further perspective.
Destined for the tawdry pile marked so bad it's good( it's not , it's just so bad it's really really ****) Lesbian Vampire Killers is actually a well produced film with superior sets and effects but it has no kitsch value what so ever and is not remotely funny . I've laughed more during an episode of Friends - Season 1-10 Complete Collection (15th Anniversary) [DVD] [1994] or My Family - Series 1-7 Box Set [DVD] [2000] and I find them as funny as having toothache while jogging on cheese graters. It is just low rent , badly written , poorly performed junk .If you want vampires there is a myriad of good stuff out there. If you want lesbian ...I,ve heard the internet is quite good. As it is this film wants staking and beheading before the next sunrise .

When I first saw this I was amazed. This film is alot better then its made out to be. I think the storyline is great, not to mention the Hilarious comedy. So many jokes throughout- there is never a moment when I wasn't laughing, its amazing. I would recommend it as one of the funniest films I've seen this year.
