DVD Description

For Boycie, Marlene and son Tyler, life at the Shropshire Grange is so enjoyable – it’s a wonder they ever thought they’d miss the city!

When Boycie and Marlene visit a local mansion, Boycie is particularly inspired by the portraits adorning the walls. What else could secure Boycie’s position as a traditional English squire more than a dignified portrait?

However with Bryan and Elgin tasked to commission an artist, things don’t quite go to plan. If that isn’t enough, the city spiv turned farm owner faces an unwelcome trip to see his mother-in-law, as well as desperately trying to a find his missing dog before he has to give someone else the reward.

Meanwhile, Elgin, Bryan, Jed and Mrs Cakeworthy are just about managing to keep the farm going, despite sometimes seeming a few bales short of a haystack. Bryan looks for a date at farmersfanciers.com and comes up against Steamy Stella; the reality TV show Farm Idol causes a stir at Winterdown Farm and when Bryan’s mail-order bride brings more than he bargained for, Llewellyn is only too pleased to step in.

And the whole farm is excited when they welcome a rich American businessman revisiting the haunts of his military posting in the 1970s. He is clearly still a real ladies man but rumour has it he might also be closely related to someone in the village…

Bonus Feature: The Christmas Special 2007

3.0 out of 5 stars Hit and Miss!, 7 Jun 2009
By Craig Taylor (Scuthorpe, UK) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
By the third series of a sitcom, you would expect it to be getting into a nice flowing routine, but unfortunately the Green, Green, Grass remains hit and miss.

Maybe it due to the fact that the episodes are written by different people with only a few episodes written by Only Fools and Horses creator John Sullivan. Don't get me wrong there are some funny moments but many of the jokes seem to fall flat, with many of the storylines being over the top. In one episode Boycie runs for the Farm Idol TV show which is so sureal. I know it is a comedy, but when you look at Only Fools and Horses and the first series of The Green, Green, Grass, the plot was mostly believable. Don't get me wrong, I do like the Green, Green, Grass, but I just feel it could be much better.

The supporting cast get a greater role in this series, which isn't always a good thing as they are just so unrealistic and at time annoying. Scenes with Marlene and Boycie are usually rather good, with the characters still true to their appearances in Only, Fools and Horses, although Boycie does seem much nicer.

It isn't suprising to learn that the series has recently been axed by the BBC, but it is a shame as this series could really have been something.

The DVD consists of all episodes from series 3 including the 2007 Christmas Special which is rather good.

If you are new to the series it would be best to start with series one, and if you like it, you might enjoy this.

4.0 out of 5 stars Simple down to earth comedy, 3 Jul 2009
By 'Andy Man "Andy" (Surrey England UK) - See all my reviews
Being a big comedy fan, i probably like others bought the Green Green grass series as a fan of Only Fools and Horses. Personally i like it its well written as you'd expect from John Sullivan and does have its moments where your having a good chuckle. Of course its not upto and never will be with Fools and Horses, but i enjoyed it and hope more of the Fool's characters will appear in it, compared to alot of the rubbish sitcoms appearing on telly these days its up there with the better ones, so i gave it a 4 star as only the classics such as fool's and horses and porrige and the like could ever get a 5. just hope they keep making more.

I Think The Green Green Grass is a cool comedy show with John Challis as Boycie. He was cool in Only Fools And Horses as well. Read more
