5.0 out of 5 stars Thought-provoking, poetic, heart-wrenching, gothic and utterly unique, 26 Mar 2009
By S. Savory "kittyfrance" (UK) - See all my reviews

Finally! I've been waiting for this DVD to come out in the UK for about a year now, trust me it is like nothing you have ever seen before. The young boy who plays the lead, Martin, is a wonder, where on earth did the director find him? I honestly don't know what other film I can compare this to: it is dark yet warm, cold yet heart-wrenching, bizarre yet crystal clear. Oh and it must be said that Pascal Cervo, who plays the gay brother of Martin, Didier, is a fantastic actor who sways from compassion to rage to quiet introspection and back again with such fluidity it beggars belief, and he is also very easy on the eye! More from this director please!

5.0 out of 5 stars a good film, 24 Jun 2009

this is a very good film and it has everything that a film should have everyone who was in the film done it right from the heart and full top marks to the young star who played martin this young boy will go far in films he was very good in the film as all were this is how films should be made its a shame they dont make many like it and it shows how a small young boy cares for the ones in his family he loves. dont miss it and it shows how he handles with his older gay brother how a child sees the world from his eyes a well made film full marks well done.

3.0 out of 5 stars Me Rambling as Usual, 5 Oct 2009
By Cactus (Reading, Berkshire, England) - See all my reviews
The Last of the Crazy People is a French film, in French. (I expect it has a French title that sounds a lot more elegant than the English one.) It's another film about a dysfunctional family, but this time one that lives on a farm in France. (Not that there's actually any scenes of any farming going on in it.) I'm not sure what to make of it really. It's very slow, it has no music in it whatsoever and there are quite long periods when not a lot seems to be happening; I managed to fall asleep watching it, so had to watch the rest of it the following day. Then again, it's also quite clever and probably needs to be watched about 20 times to ensure you `get it' properly. The main character in it is a ten year old boy who is basically neglected and ignored by most of the other people in the film and most of what's going on is seen from his prospective. I feel watching it probably ought to have had more of an effect on me that it did, but somehow I didn't really feel very sorry for any of the characters and the more shocking scenes felt a bit flat. (I probably watch too many Hollywood blockbusters with lots of noise and explosions in them to help me to understand what's going on.) However, Penny (my cat) was very pleased to see a ginger and white cat in several scenes, which rather than simply adding background colour to these, had a proper role in several, stealing them with ease from the human actors; so Penny told me anyway, I think. Tis is a film worth watching (in a quiet room) when you're head's in the right head space for this sort of thing.
