4.0 out of 5 stars Forget Hatchet, this is a real throwback to 80's Slasher Goodness, 28 May 2009
By B. Ryan "Twisted Author" (Colo Vale, NSW Australia) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
I was fortunate to catch this film theatrically at 'A Night of Horror International Film Festival' recently where it picked up a much deserved best Australian feature award. You'll often hear the phrase 'throwback to 80's slashers...' bandied about nowadays. Adam Greens Hatchet was hailed as such, as well as singlehandedly reviving the genre. Sadly, it missed the mark on both counts. Hatchet never really fired on all cylinders, missed the point entirely, and seemingly had no idea about what made films like The Burning, Madman, and Mothers Day fun.

I Know How Many Runs You Scored Last Summer simmers ingredients such as irony and homage admirably, and succeeds where so many others have failed. It's full of in-jokes, and nods to slasher conventions that are still imaginative and a lot of fun in a post-Scream genre. My particular favorite scene involves deliberate continuity errors and a buxom body double.

Despite being an obvious homage to some obscure slasher films of the 80's as well as poking fun at their present day counterparts Saw & Hostel, Runs also manages to be quintessentially Australian. It shows the world how we percieve ourselves while being an enormously fun beer and pizza flick. I look forward to seeing what the team behind this one come up with next. In much the same way as Edgar Wright and Simon Pegg do with their films, they have a knack for making entertaining commercial films that still retain their cultural stamp rather than just apeing American horror. Definitely a keeper!

1.0 out of 5 stars very bad!, 10 Jul 2009
This movie was neither scary nor funny, it looked very good beforehands but didnt make it past 20 mins. Dont waste your money on it, there are plenty of hilarious low budget horror comedies.
