My wife and I first saw this film in 1987 on the big screen and thoroughly enjoyed it. It's hard to believe that 22 years have passed since then and Anchor Bay has done the film justice, including two on-the-set "Making Of" features from 1987 in which we not only hear from the Director and the crew, but also comments by Patrick Swayze, Lisa Niemi (Patrick's wife), Brion James, Christoper Neame and John Fujioka.
The film is presented in the 1.78:1 ratio and looks great on our large screen TV. The price is also very affordable. Enjoy!

If you liked Mad Max,you'll like this one.Set after a great war the world is in ruin. Patrick Swayze stars as a lone swordman, who was once a general in the war. After seeing his old friend and mentor killed by swayze's rival, he seeks revenge. This takes him across the land, with its many perils and obstacles to his final goal.
So if you are a fan of swords and fantasy films, you will love it ! with its many fight scenes and a geat end sword seqence,it is a must for all fantasy film fans alike.

Lovers of Roadhouse and Next of Kin know that Patrick has tried his hand at a bit of Kung Fu action from time to time, but few seem to be aware of this film. It's not the only post-apocalypse martial arts film (think of Van Damme's Cyborg or the Asian cult classic Fist of the North Star) but it still remains a rare foray into a genre which demands more attention. A combination of Mad Max 2 and Highlander, it has a stock plot of the master swordsman moving towards a showdown with his evil nemesis; the martial arts are surprisingly good: in particular, Swayze does some nifty work with a staff. The plot is lifted by some Planet of the Apes style shots of ancient ships half-buried in desert wastelands.

I love post apocalyptic action movies. The market was flooded by them back in the 80's when VHS first appeared en masse here in the UK. Typically they feature cheesy dialogue, poor sets, Italian actors you've never heard of and a dodgy 70's style soundtrack. Happily I can say Steel Dawn manages to rise above all of the aforementioned shortcomings - well almost - the sets aren't exactly great but at least it has sets, unlike the fairly awful Hirokin : The Last Samurai [DVD] which is similar. There's also some effective cinematography such as the during obligatory desert walk, this time punctuated by a large, sand covered shipwreck and a disused railway line. This film conforms to the basic western concept of a good guy cleaning up a bad town. The martial arts scenes are plentiful and are crisply choreographed with Mr Swayze's physical prowess put to good use.

Love the film, Patrick and his wife Lisa Niemi are both in this, lovely to see them working together. The film is set in a devasted future world where water is one of the most precious things as there isn't much of it. Plenty of action and surprises, some romance, plus a moment when Patrick is using quite a lot of water in the bath! Great.

There's nothing wrong with the acting and it is very much a genre movie, with all the boxes ticked for sorcery, fighting, drinking and wizardry.

As me old Mum says: "it's amazing what you can do with a washing up bottle," and some of the wigs, props and costumes are very cheap indeed.

Nice to hear Brian May pop up on the soundtrack. Must have been after the Kind Of Magic gig.

Definitely a cash in on Mad Max 2 this is still a great post apocalyptic world action movie. Patrick Swayze is more famous for Ghost & Dirty dancing but us action fans love him for stuff like this. Well worth the buy.
