No amount of stars can say how good this is, 15 Jun 2009
This volume of the brilliant Bleach anime contains the episodes fifty-four to sixty-three and finishes of the Soul Society story arc. Everything kicks off in this volume with pretty much all the captains releasing their swords to shikai level at least, the rematch between Byakuya and Ichigo and a fight between my two favourite characters from the series Soi Fon and Yoruichi. This volume also includes more of the background for many of the characters including Soi Fon, Yoruichi, Byakuya Kuchiki, Kaname Tosen and Sajin Komamura among others. The plot also comes to a head as the various intrigues and machinations come to a head.
I may be going a bit over the top here but this volume of Bleach is simply one of the best things I have seen in a long time. The ten episodes in this volume include pretty much everything I love about Bleach: great fights, cool weapons, flashy powers and a great plot that finely reveals some of the secrets and conspiracies that have been going on from the beginning of the series.
There are a couple of bad things about this volume as there is now an annoying explanation of the series at the beginning of each episode and the English dub has a couple of annoying things wrong with it (it should be "I will stand atop the Heavens" not "I will stand on at the top"). On the plus side this volume also starts the run of the Bleach omake series between each episode which, although of somewhat mixed quality, are quite funny.

Best Bleach Yet!!, 22 Jun 2009
This brilliant volume of the Bleach anime finishes off the Soul Society: Rescue story arc and is also the last DVD before two seasons of filler (No!!!). It contains 10 episodes across two discs, episodes 54-63.
This is where I think Bleach really gets good, having a lot of big fights packed into the 10 episodes on the discs. It has the re-match of Ichigo and Byakuya, Yoruichi vs Soi-fon and Yamamoto vs Kyoraku and Ukitake. The ending of the Rescue arc is amazing and you makes you really want to know what happens next.
I watched this set in the English dub, not Japanese with English subtitles. The dub is good as usual. For those watching in Japanese with subtitles, the subtitles are yellow in colour so easily stand out and are readable.
The set contains the following episodes:
54. An Accomplished Oath! Get back, Rukia!
55. The Strongest Shinigami! Ultimate Confrontation Between Teacher and Student
56. Supersonic Battle! Determine the Goddess of Chivalry
57. One thousand cherry blossoms, crushed! Zangetsu Thrusts through the Sky
58. Unseal! The Black Blade, the Miraculous Power
59. Conclusion of the Death Match! White Pride and Black Desire
60. Truth of the Despair, the Dagger that has been Brandished
61. Aizen Stands Out! His Terrifying Ambitions
62. Congress together! The Strongest Shinigami Organisation
63. Rukia's Resolution, Ichigo's Feelings
The extras on the disc are quite poor. You get production artwork on both discs and a textless closing song. You also get the usual manga trailers.
The English set contains two of the American volumes. Here are links to the American volumes, should you wish to buy those instead:
Bleach, Vol. 14 [DVD] [Region 1] [US Import] [NTSC]
Bleach, Vol. 15 [DVD] [Region 1] [US Import] [NTSC]

The Day of Reckoning has Arrived, 23 Jun 2009
As our orange haired substitute soul reaper and his team continue their assault on the soul society, they soon learn that there is something else going on and that there are evil forces within the soul reaper ranks that are lurking in the shadows of the soul society. The rescue of Rukia story arc reaches it's dramatic conclusion in these final 10 episodes of season 3. Prepare yourself for more epic fights, buckets of blood and one incredible twist that is sure to blow you away. Like the previous few Bleach releases, we get some nice characterisation of the ever-growing cast of the soul society as well as finally seeing some awesome Bankai powers in action. The power level is certainly turned up a notch, so what better way to oppose this than bringing in another villain...or three.
This 2 disc release of Bleach may be the most important addition the action packed anime yet as it brings a close to a great story arc and at the same time, opens up a great new storyline and introduces some truly powerful foes who we will be seeing a lot of in the future. This series finishes on the perfect note of ending one story arc and paving the way for a brand new one.
The one weakness of Bleach is also conversely it's strength - the sheer amount of characters. If you have been following the story up to this point you will have noticed that there are ALOT of characters; so much so that it is often hard to keep track of them all, especially with some of the long winded Japanese names some of them have. Furthermore, as most of these characters are soul reapers, they all wear the same black cloak, making some of the characters indistinguishable from eachother on the first viewing. However, like I said, this is also a strength of the series. Once you have gotten used to all the characters, you will see that the majority of them are well thought out and entertaining additions to the cast. As series 3 part 2 fleshes out yet more of the supporting cast, Bleach really proves that it is dedicated to it's strong character driven story.
As usual, the animation is smooth and the audio is pretty good, with the choice of English dub, or Japanese with subtitles. However, once again there are no real special features to speak of except for some production artwork, trailers and also a textless ending (but does that really count as a special feature?^^). Alongside all the epic battles, this release still pays some special attention to the trademark Bleach humour that makes this a series that is very down to earth and easy to watch. Like many long running shonen animes, Bleach is pure addictive viewing and doesn't let up for one instant in this volume. If character driven action is your cup of tea, then Bleach is the anime for you; and if you've been watching thus far, then this release is sure to please.
