Product Description

A young woman (Bobbi Sue Luther) wakes up inside a locked casket with no memory of who she is or how she got there. But once she escapes, the girl will quickly learn that she - and everyone she comes in contact with - is now being pursued by an unstoppable maniac armed with a chrome skull mask, a shoulder-mounted video camera, and a ferocious appetite for slaughter. Kevin Gage (Heat), Lena Headey (300, The Sarah Connor Chronicles) and Thomas Dekker (Heroes) co-star in this unflinching vision of graphic carnage from writer/director/FX master Robert Hall, featuring music by Suicidal Tendencies and Blackcowboy.

Fed up of the usual 'saw' rip offs and constant dire torture porn wannabees? Fancy a trip down memory lane for a little old skool 80s horror exploitation? In the need for a fix of the old red stuff fused with Tom Savini style splatter effects? Well, look no further - because FX pro turned director Robert J Halls' second feature 'Laid To Rest' has arrived, and for me at least - it's a welcome return to horror movies of old and a pretty good horror flick in it's own right.

Telling the story of a young girl (played by Bobbie Sue Luther) who wakes up in a coffin with a bad case of brain freeze and no memory of her own identity, she narrowly escapes the clutches of serial killer (and horror icon in waiting) 'Chrome Skull' who we learn has kidnapped her for his own lurid pleasures. Making her way across town, she is taken in by couple Tucker and Cindy (played very well by Kevin Gage and Lena Headey) - at first not believing the girl's claims of her kidnapping, then learning the hard way as 'ol Chrome Skull turns up to ply his trade in the only way he knows how. To go on about the story would ruin it, but rest assured the following 75 minutes manages to throw in great little character performances and excellent gore effects. The pace is non stop and even though the story is paper thin, director Hall has the noggin to keep everything fast moving and throws up enough 'look behind you!' moments to keep you entertained and almost forget the films inadequacies.

Actors Kevin Gage and Sean Whalen (still memorable from Wes Craven's People Under the Stairs) fair very well in this movie and both of them combined steal the many scenes that they appear in and form the emotional back story for the movie.

"Laid to rest" is an 80s style, no-nonsense slasher with a cool killer and enough blood to satisfy every gore-hound. The kills are surprisingly innovative and nicely shot, story and motivation are of no importance here. No "Saw"-like puzzles or torture porn to be found here. Just good ol' slashing to hevy metal beats.
A cool indie gem that deserves a place in every self-respecting horror fan's collection.

What can I say? This movie delivered everything I wanted it to. Strong brutal killings/unique killings, cheesy acting, great music (courtesy of Suicidal Tendencies), and decent atmosphere. Laid To Rest is kind of an homage to older slasher films from the 80's, there have been alot of these low budget straight to dvd horror films that are tributes to 80's slasher films but in my honest opinion some of them they have failed. However Laid To Rest has succeeded where the others have failed, the reason why I say this is because this film was actually fun to watch, it has a great mixture of gore with some humor (not too much so it turns itself into a bad parody) and some serious and more dramatic stuff. The acting wasn't that good but wasn't bad either, it was average and the killer looked pretty cool and was menacing, he's called Chromeskull and doesn't speak. He is a technologically-dependent serial killer, who wears a chrome-plated mask, and who's knives are just as sharp as his mind, and just as shiny as his face. He's also a very violent maniac. This guy isn't about pursuing much, but rather likes to wait for his victims to get themselves into a certain position so he can sneak up on them. And when he finally gets them, he shows no mercy which made for a very gory film all around. The story was about a young girl who wakes up in a casket in a funeral home with a traumatic head injury and no memory of her identity. She soon realizes she has been abducted by a deranged serial murderer in an isolated rural town. Now she must survive the night and outsmart the technologically inclined killer who is hellbent on finishing what he started. The characters weren't like typical cliches but were very interesting and the film had a nice pace to it. Overall it's just a great modern slasher flick that had alot of great scenes and a cool chrome faced killer that was reminiscent of Jason from Friday The 13th films. I highly recommend this to horror fans.

"Laid To Rest" tries to entertain by showing some gruesome deaths plus adding some modern Rock/Metal music to make the thing look cooler. Sounds okay - who cares about the story, it's a god damn slasher movie!
BUT even the worst slasher movies should contain at least the hint of a storyline. In "Laid To Rest" however, I miss not just a real story, but also any logic decision made by the characters. They act like idiots - and in a way, that hurts. Building a relation to the charaters is merely impossible. You simply don't care about them. That's not all: the whole movie looks quite cheap - but not in an entertaining way. There a many more points to mention, but overall: there are better slashers out there.

A young girl wakes up in a casket with a head injury and no memory of her identity.

She quickly realises she was abducted by a deranged Serial killer and in an isolated rural town She must survive the night and outsmart the camera happy killer who is hellbent on finishing what he started....

First off, this isn't genre breaking not for one moment, but it's really well made and has some good performances, which is really rare for a slasher movie.

And it's gory, not over the top gory like Hostel, but shocking enough and not over the top enough to make you cringe.

But what makes this film unique is the fact that the killer really has no motivation for he is doing. he's a relentless thing just wanting to finish what he started, and nothing will stop him.

The script is a little bit dodgy, with some lines that are really bad, but the film is just a real pleasure to watch.

Horror films with this sub-genre are rife nowadays, and to find one that is actually watchable is very rare.

catch it, and enjoy it.
