Product Description

Kiefer Sutherland stars in this supernatural thriller as Ben Carson, an ex-cop who quit his job owing to post-traumatic stress syndrome, and who now works as a night security guard at an old department store that was burned out in a fire. Soon after starting the job, Ben starts to see horrific images in the store's many mirrors: weird spirits that seem intent on pursuing him and his estranged family and watching them through the medium of any nearby reflective surface. Can Ben discover the origin of these evil spirits - and reveal the story they are trying to tell - in time to save himself and those he loves?

Synopsis

After Switchblade Romance and The Hills Have Eyes, French director Alexandre Aja stays firmly grounded in horror territory with Mirrors. In this reimagining of a Korean horror film, Kiefer Sutherland plays an ex-cop whose home is invaded by spirits via its mirrors.

I really liked this horror movie. I have been somewhat disappointed with American horror movies f sometime and prefer foreign movies, lots of which have been remade into poor American re-makes. I see from another reviewer that this too is a re-make, but this is a thrilling and chilling tale.

To be frank Keifer Sutherland isn't going to put his name to any rubbish and this horror grabs you from the start. There are some real jumpy parts and the story holds your attention to the end, which has an unexpected twist. I am usually pretty good at seeing twists but this one was very unexpected.

The Blu-Ray has a great directors commentary - the first I have ever listened to all through. And on the Blu-ray you get the 18 version of the film not the 15 cinema edition, though since I have not seen the 15 version, regret I cannot tell you the difference.

If you like jumpy, unexpected horror then watch this and never look into a mirror the same way again.

When i saw this last year i had no idea it was a remake.I found it to be one of the best horror films ive seen for ages.Set in a burned out department store, its dark and rather creepy and it is also very bloody from the opening scene and not for the easily disturbed. The cinema release was cut to get a 15 rating so what you get here is the full version hence the 18 rating. The casting of Kiefer Sutherland aims the movie away from the tweenie age group and he is as usual extremely good. Having not seen the original i cant compare the two movies but this version is that rare thing nowadays, a good ,well made horror. You really wont want to look in a mirror after seeing this. Should look a treat on Blu Ray as well.

In one of those rare twists – the dreaded restrictions of Region Coding may finally do UK Horror Film fans a bit of a favour.

The 'standard' cut of 2008’s "Mirrors" on an American BLU RAY is REGION A LOCKED - so even if you wanted it - you can't play it on the vast majority of our British players unless they're chipped to be 'all regions' (which few are).

But the 'UK' release (Region B) has an exclusive 'Tormented Cut' unseen in British cinema - so buy that instead - and it's part of Amazon's excellent '2 for £10' BLU RAY deal anyway...

Mirrors is the American remake of a little known Korean film called Into the Mirror. The plot has Kiefer Sutherland as a recovering alcoholic cop, who whilst on suspension is taken to working as a security guard at a large burnt out department store and starts to see terrifying images in the many mirrors about the place...

You would think that Mirrors was a flop. The critics hated it and the horror hordes were very much divided on it, the latter of which is to be fair the norm for any big horror movie release. Yet it didn't flop, it did very well at the box offices of the world and has a decent 6.2 average on IMDb, which for a divisive horror film is well above average.

Mirrors overstays its welcome, there really was no need for it to run to just under two hours in length. While elsewhere there's some pretty poor dialogue, parts of the screenplay are pointlessly soap opera in nature, while some thinking will make you scratch your head in bewilderment at events outside of the brilliantly monolithic department store.

However, does Mirrors create a genuinely spooky atmosphere (the interiors of the store are creep fest nirvana), insert some shock moments to jolt you out your seat? Is it visually stylish, with sound work to match? And does Sutherland (and to a degree Paula Patton as his wife) overcome the trite parts of the script and give effective and committed performances? The answer to those questions is yes.

Does the ending cop out in any way? Insult the audience? No! It doesn't do that either.

It has flaws, but they are not insurmountable for the horror fan who's just looking for some good scares, atmospheric dread and some stylish touches from the director (Alexandre Aja). If you haven't seen it then give it a try, judge for yourself, you might be pleasantly surprised at what you find. 7.5/10

In `Mirrors' Keifer Sutherland stars as an ex-NYPD cop who is now working as a night watchman at a department store that had been burnt down years before. Within no time he begins to see haunting images in the mirrors and hear terrifying screams from the floors above. He then realises why the previous guard had such an obsession with mirrors and why he has gone missing.

At first this film seemed brilliant - very creepy with an extremely atmospheric premise, great acting from Sutherland, showing that he's still good away from 24, and a fairly decent storyline. There's plenty of eerie moments as well and genuine frights and some very graphic scenes for the gore fans. So far so good! Then just past the halfway point, the plot goes downhill drastically and the CGI kicks in and it real does spoil it all, which is such a shame as it was quite a promising film to begin with. The ending is just ridiculous too.

Overall I definitely wouldn't recommend buying this film but if you get the chance to see it or rent it, it is worth a watch. I just feel so let down after such a brilliant first half that I can't bring myself to give this film more than 2 and a half stars.
