Luc Devereaux, the only surviving member of the original Universal Soldier Team now works with Dylan Cotner, on a project to create and improve a new Universal Soldier.

Their plan is for the Universal soldier to be controlled by a computer they call SETH.

When the government decides to terminate the project, which includes shutting down SETH, he takes steps to prevent this. He first kills Dylan. He then has himself transfered into a body.

He seeks out Luc, who is the only person who knows the code that will stop his program from being deleted.

Luc must try and stay away until SETH is deleted, but SETH has targeted his daughter as possible leverage.....

Another Van Damme random movie here, which is bad by any means, but so much fun while it lasts. The makers have obviously taken the late nineties for granted, and have put pointless rock music into action sequences, and included a cyber punk called Squid, who looks way too old to have that hair.

Van Damme is as good as always, but Berkeley usurps him in the acting chops (of course). Luckily for Van Damme, he gets killed early on, so his acting compared to Goldberg and Jai White, is Oscar material.

The film is edited poorly, and Romeo has a habit of saying awful lines every time Luc hits him, but it's a lot of fun.

It's never boring, never really irritates anyone. Or does any harm.

Well, not much anyway....

The first Universal Soldier was one of the great Van Damme movies and though it was a rip off in a way of superior classics like the first two Terminators and Robocop it is still a extremely enjoyable sci fi action film, this follow up forgets the tv movies that followed and acts as a sequel to the first movie featuring Van Damme's character and even though it can feel a bit simple and like a direct to video/dvd film at times there is something i really like about it and was Jean Claude's last great film for a long time and any film with WCW superstar Bill Goldberg making quips is a winner for me.

Ex Universal Soldier Luc Deveraux(Van Damme)is now a normal human being and lives with daughter Hilary(Karis Paige Bryant),he along with Maggie(Kiana Tom)works for the government to reform the Universal Soldier program so they can be used instead of living soldiers in the battlefields and they are connected by a artificial intelligence known as S.E.T.H.(Michael Jay White's voice).
But when the Universal Soldier program is scheduled to be shut down S.E.T.H. is determined not to be closed down and begins plans to get into a Universal Soldier body and unleash his power in the real world but before he does that he destroys anyone who tries to shut him down and unleashes a bunch of UniSol's including muscle bound Romeo(WWE and WCW legend Bill Goldberg)on the the powers who want to close him down.
Only Luc and journalist Erin Young(Heidi Schanz)stand in S.E.T.H. and Romeo's way but S.E.T.H. targets daughter Hilary as Luc is the only one who has the code to stop the S.E.T.H. program shutting down.

Universal Solder - The Return, is the second theatrical film in the Universal Soldier franchise. Although, not included in the Universal Soldier continuity with the recent release of Universal Soldier Regeneration [DVD] [2009], this is still a very watchable film, whilst clearly being a B Movie.

The film itself has been produced on a much smaller budget than the original, Universal Soldier [DVD] [1991], which in my opinion adds to this films appeal. Due to not being able to pack the film with big budget special effect explosions, the film relies on more martial arts skills and also on more inter character dialogue as well which gives this film more depth than the average B Movie.

Included on the DVD alongside the movie there are also some very interesting interviews with Jean-Claude VanDamme and Michael Jai White in the special features which combined with the very cheap price of this product, gives this film an excellent value for money.

Overall, whilst the film clearly won't win any awards, it is very watchable and will be of interest to any Jean-Claude VanDamme fan, action movie fan or someone who wants a cheap and enjoyable evening alone or amongst friends.

In the sequel to the original Universal Soldier, which was a box office hit, Jean-Claude Van Damme makes his return as now devoted father and widower Luc Deveraux, he is now a technical expert on the new unisols project, but it all goes wrong when the computer (S.E.T.H) decides to take over the Unisols project, as he knows the goverment can not afford to keep the project going which would mean destruction of SETH. But for SETH to do this he need's a password, which only Luc Deveraux knows, how ever mayhem breaks lose, and Van Damme has to battle the unisols which are 2.5 stronger than any man to stop SETH. In which I think this was some of Van Damme's best acting in the film, Michael Jai White as the body and voice of SETH, was very good, his vocal skills were used well in the film, and other roles played by WCW Star Bill Goldberg was impressive, he looks very charismatic on screen, and pulled off his role of the bad guy brilliantly. There are good fight scene's in the movie as well, mostly towards the end, the best being Luc Deveraux(Van Damme) v SETH (Michael Jai White) they both show some great kicks in this fight and is enjoyable to watch. All in all this movie is a great sequel to the original Universal Soldier, it may not be as good as the first, but there is plenty of action in the film, so I give it the thumbs up.
