Synopsis

College student Casey Beldon (Odette Yustman, CLOVERFIELD) begins having dreams about a spooky little boy with bright blue eyes. She thinks nothing of it as first, but when the image becomes a recurring motif and the boy she babysits for hits her in the face and tells her 'Jumby wants to be born now', she begins to get frightened. After learning that she had a twin brother who died in utero, she finds a photo of her late mother with the same ghostly child looming in the background. A newspaper clipping then leads Casey to visit an elderly Holocaust survivor (Jane Alexander) in a nursing home. The woman clues her in to a dark family secret extending back to WWII, which prompts her to employ the services of Rabbi Sendak (Gary Oldman), whose scepticism about evil spirits is vanquished when he sees what he is up against.

Although picture & sound was good for blu-ray it couldn't make up for the dire storyline and acting - I was that bored when the cliche hollywood nazi storyline kicked in, I left the film running to do the washing up and watch some paint dry.

This new edition to the horror genre has a simple plot delivered by decent acting and is topped off with very nice special effects.

The story of this film is nothing revolutionary to the horror genre. It's a typical plot of being haunted by a ghost, a ghost that has certain ties with the main character's family. As the film develops the plot thickens slightly but is never ground breaking.

The acting in this film is something that betters this simple plot. Odette Yustman plays the main character, which while at first may be mistaken for an eye candy role does sell the torment and grief of her character.
Other characters play their roles adequately and Gary Oldman gives a more than convincing performance as a Jewish rabbi.

The main thing that does sell this film is the special effects. Whilst not being over the top and over-used, they are tasteful and used sparingly to create a film that I think will be watched by future generations.

My only criticism with the film is that some aspects of the plot and the title itself, are misleading and irrelevant.

For all you hardcore horror fans like myself I doubt you will find anything new in the way of the story but I think you will be impressed with the special effects and the effort of the actors.
For someone who is just wanting a a Satruday night scare film this will deffinately deliver with its combintation of in your face jumpy scenes and scary children.

Implausible, badly scripted, badly acted and I could go on but I think you can work out the rest yourself. Why was this ever released?
