Product Description

CD Description

'I Think We're Gonna Need A Bigger Boat' is the debut albumfrom The BPA (The Brighton Port Authority). Brought together by Norman Cook and fellow producer Simon Thornton, the album - which according to Cook was recorded at a dockside warehouse in the 1970s and only rediscovered when a mysterious box of reel-to-reel tapes were found - features an all star cast of vocalists. David Byrne, Iggy Pop and Dizzee Rascal are just some of the artists to provide vocals to Cook and Thornton's house and big beat inspired backing, a sound that the two producers have become synonymous with.

2.0 out of 5 stars I Think They're Gonna Need a Better Album, 4 Sep 2009

This is Norman Cook's latest identity, this time teaming up with Simon Thornton. I'm a big fan of Cook but this is nothing on the quality of his other work as Fatboy Slim, Pizza Man and Beats International, so I was very disappointed with this release. Despite the impressive guest vocalists such as Dizzee Rascal, Martha Wainwright, Iggy Pop and erm..Jamie T, this album just sounds so flat and lifeless and is one I am very unlikely to listen to very often or create playlists with as there are just no memorable tunes at all. If I had to pick one, my favourite track has to be "Should I Stay or Should I Blow" which does have a fairly up-beat rhythm and some fun lyrics, much in the style of Fatboy Slim's PALOOKAVILLE but other than that there's not much to recommend here. Bring back the Fatboy!

1.0 out of 5 stars BPA = Bloody Poor Album, 29 Oct 2009
What, prey tell was Norman on when he conceived this shipwreck? Was he having some acid-flashback and nostalgic hankerings to his days in the Housemartins? or was he simply fulfilling his contractual? Whatever it is or was, and whatever the reason they wasted the earth's precious natural resources on producing and manufacturing this utterly meritless compilation is largely immaterial, the fact is they did and now it exists. It exists like a landmine in a bargain basement bin, or worse, still on the shelf at full price. Ready to blow a hole in some poor unsuspecting soul's wallet and then single-handedly destroy the notion that they once had a coherent and well-selected CD collection, which of course, if they added this dud into, they could no longer claim to have.

Where and how does Norm draw the artistic and musical connection between a good number of these tracks which he sliced together brilliantly on the superb 'Dance Bitch' and this Christmas album? I am simply at a loss to correlate the two. Norman Cook aka Beats International aka Fatboy Slim aka this absolute and unmitigated garbage What happened? different genre... different BPM... different! VERY different. I mean the BPA connection, it's not even relevant. All this is, is a collection of never-was and almost-rans. A collection of minor '80s or '90s-sounding b-sides.

BPA? Brazen Pig's A**e?
