Amazon.co.uk Review

Following on from the quite exceptional debut season, Flight Of The Conchords’ sophomore run thankfully manages to recapture the comedy genius that put the show on the map in the first place. And, bluntly, it’s often painfully funny.

If you’re new to the show, it basically follows two folk singers from New Zealand, who are trying to make it big in New York City. Naturally, in Flight Of The Conchords, things don’t quite go to plan, and it becomes clear that America might not be ready for the pair’s musical creations.

Powered by Bret McKenzie and Jemaine Clement in the lead roles, but backed by a particularly good supporting cast (including the wonderful Rhys Darby as their part-time manager), Flight Of The Conchords’ second season throws up some real classics. We get Bret starting up a gang, Jemaine’s realisation that he’s slept with someone from Australia, and, of course, the visit of the New Zealand Prime Minister. There are ten episodes in total, and while not every one of them hits the heights of the series at its peak, this is still a comedy goldmine.

Easily one of the freshest and most original comedy shows currently running, Flight Of The Conchords really is something of a treat, and if anything, season two exceeds the standards set by its forerunner. Roll on season three. Please. --Jon Foster

Synopsis

This HBO series follows the misadventures of struggling folk act Flight of the Conchords (real-life comedy partners Jemaine Clement and Bret McKenzie). Hoping to extend their fanbase beyond one obsessed groupie, the guys move to New York's East Village, where it soon becomes apparent that America's not ready for their unique brand of music.

5.0 out of 5 stars Second Series Doesn't Disapoint, 23 Mar 2009
By Mr. M. Wilson "HebburnCurly" (Hebburn, Tyneside) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
Having just watched the whole of the second series I can say that it's as good, if not better than the first series.

Only having 10 episodes, it's shorter than the first, but is full of more of the same and better songs. Episode highlights include Jemaine becoming a male prostitute, Jemaine falling in love with an Australian, the New Zealand Prime Minister becoming part of the team, the lads doing a benefit gig for epileptic dogs and discovering hair gel. Some of the songs are class, from Carol Brown to Mel's solo song Dreams, it's an essential DVD for your collection especially if you loved the first series. It doesn't let you down, and unfortunately looks like it's the last series as well, so savour the comedy classic while you can.

5.0 out of 5 stars You know what? ....I think it's EVEN better than Season One!, 9 April 2009
By Alberto Frog (Sunny Sheffield) - See all my reviews
I've watched all the episodes (several times) which I think is always a good starting point before leaving a review.
I was a little worried as the series was delayed & they'd gone on record to say they had used "97% of all their material in the first season".
Don't worry Season Two is fantastic & actually it somehow even improves on Season One.
As others mentioned everybody seems to get involved in the songs and Rhys Darby seems to have a slightly more prominent role.
They seem to have had some help with the writing but this is at absolutely no detriment to the quality of the shows.
My favorite is when Jemaine becomes a "Man-ho" in "New Cup" which is absolutely hilarious but really there isn't a weak episode.
Oh... & I only have to look at Murray & I start laughing.

3.0 out of 5 stars Good, but 1st season is definitely better, 13 Aug 2009
I enjoyed this DVD, but after the first season, which I thought was absolutely brilliant, it was a little disappointing. Where the first season was consistently engaging and hilarious, this one was hit & miss in terms of both the jokes and the songs.

Worth watching and enjoyable, with some great moments, but doesn't match season 1.
