Product Description

Manufacturer's Description

Product Description:

Farringdon Extension includes new stations and activities to be enjoyed with Train Simulator and is designed to run with or without the Midland Mainline route.  There are four detailed activities included and if you are already the owner of Midland Mainline there are a further two activities for you to enjoy.

Running from north to south from West Hampstead your journey takes you through Kentish Town and then to St Pancras International for connections to Eurostar and the East Midlands.  Next stop is Farringdon which links you with the London Underground’s Circle, Metropolitan and Hammersmith & City lines.  You can then choose between taking the limited service on the Moorgate Branch passing through the Barbican or take the Blackfriars route connecting to City Thameslink.

2.0 out of 5 stars Farringdon Extension, 28 April 2009
Fun:3.0 out of 5 stars
Could only find five new stations on the extended route. Sent email to the manufacturer twice but not received a response in last 30 days. That's disappointing so won't be making further purchases if no response received.

5.0 out of 5 stars Very realistic - but should we be charged for it?, 11 Jul 2009

Fun:5.0 out of 5 stars
The Farringdon extension is sold as a MS Train Simulator add-on and, in true Europeanbahn style, it is designed either to be used on its own or to be integrated with their existing Midland-Mainline route.

Take note of what you are getting; if you run it on its own you will get 9 stations, though two are already on the Midland Mainline route, so you will only get 7 if you integrate it. You get only 4 activities for this route as a standalone, but an additional two if you have the Midland route, almost by way of compensation for the fewer stations!

So, what's it like? Well, I think it is very, very good, evocative of the real route. Those familiar with London will know the line is underground for a large part, though with significant `open' areas, including the switchover for voltages (though not significant for the simulator of course). So its main appeal will be to those who are familiar with the line. It does integrate seamlessly with the Midland route, and I found installation was simple. It is indeed a real pleasure running a dual voltage class 319 through London!

On the other hand, the whole route is fairly short, and a bit limited operationally - you will drive it in around 15 minutes. Since the Midland route is 50 miles, it is questionable whether the Farringdon bit should not have been included in the main route anyway, rather than as an extension - after all, many other commercial routes cover distances (and stations) greater than the combined mileage for both Midland and the Farringdon extension. This makes it a fairly expensive way of getting the whole route, and is really my main gripe.

Still, that's the way it is; forgetting the price, as a route in its own right it is well detailed and very good. That gets it 5 stars

5.0 out of 5 stars my old stomping ground, 14 Jun 2009
Fun:5.0 out of 5 stars
I was a fireman at Kentish town loco for many years and remember dropping down the hole as we called it to farringdon and onto clapham junction on the night parcels. It was like going back in time this game is an excelent add on for the midland main line well done M/s
